Funeral services for Beatrice Pinyan Neal, 71, of Blountsville, are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003 at Blountsville Funeral Home Chapel, Greg Lyles and Dan Sims officiating, with burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Mrs. Neal died Monday. She was born in Blount County to Rufus and Eavie Lavier Pinyan. She was a day care operator for Child Care Development. She was a member of Blountsville Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Tammy Lynn Neal; and two brothers, Verbon Pinyan and James Arlin Pinyan.
Survivors include her husband, Arlin Neal of Blountsville; two sons, Bob (Brenda) Neal of Oneonta and Tim (Sara) Neal of Cleveland; a sister, Marie Horsley of Blountsville; four grandchildren, Brandon, David, Madison and Amanda Neal Wilson; and one great-grandchild, Merrit Lee Wilson.
Pallbearers will be Mike Pinyan, James Horsley, Sam Pinyan, Paul Pinyan, Noel Chambliss and Roy Posey. Honorary pallbearer will be David Neal.
Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. today.
Alice O. Ashley
Funeral services for Alice O. Ashley, 84, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 at Moss Service Chapel, Eugene and Kenneth Ashley officiating, with burial in Cullman Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Ashley died Wednesday, Feb. 5 at her residence. She was born Oct. 18, 1918. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, G.C. Ashley.
Survivors include five sons, Eugene (Le) Ashley, Stephen C. (Brandy) Ashley, David Lee (Bonita) Ashley, Michael T. (Miranda) Ashley, all of Cullman, and Kenneth J. (Judy) Ashley of Fultondale; two daughters, Janice Gail (John) Stewart of Warrior and Barbara Jean (Donnie) Johnson of Vinemont; 25 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

John Rufus ‘Boots’ Hanes
Funeral services for John Rufus “Boots” Hanes, 79, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Wade Maynard and James Robertson officiating, with burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Mr. Hanes died Tuesday, Feb. 4 at his residence. He was born Nov. 21, 1923 in Cullman County to M.V. and Maggie Morrison Hanes. He was the retired owner of Hanes Grocery and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II and the Korean war.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Laborn Hanes and Mayo Hanes; and a sister, Inez Nobinger.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Hildred Marie Hanes of Cullman; a daughter, Brenda (Tom) King of California; a brother, J.C. Hanes of Cullman; five sisters, Ollie Bell Farley, Ludie Hebert, Naomie Vogel, Virginia Jones of Cullman, and Rossie Fugate of Ohio; three grandchildren, Michelle D. Moores of Cullman, Toni R. King of Tennessee and Andrea D. King of San Diego, Calif.; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley N. Moores, Brittnee N. Moores, Devon L. Moores of Cullman, and Jaysen D. Dixon of San Diego, Calif.

Mr. Goodno died Tuesday, Feb. 4 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born Sept. 12, 1927 in Cullman County to Henry and Pearl Maynard Goodno. He was a retired from Cullman city government.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Mary Noles Goodno.
Survivors include two sons, James T. Goodno Jr. and James H. Goodno of Baileyton; a brother, Henry Goodno of Cullman; five grandchildren, James Kevin Goodno, Kerry Wayne Goodno, Shannon Goodno, Nathan Goodno, and Stephanie Goodno; and three great-grandchildren, Cody Goodno, Sheena Kritner and P.J. Kritner.

Rillie May Calvert Howlett
Funeral services for Rillie May Calvert Howlett, 92, of Fultondale, formerly of Cullman, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, Owen Calvert officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Mrs. Howlett died Tuesday, Feb. 4. She was born Dec. 10, 1910 in Cullman County to Charlie Houston and Ora Banita Hancock Calvert. She was a member of Fultondale Church of Christ for 12 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edgar F. Howlett; a granddaughter, Kathy Powell; and a great-grandson, Brent Howlett.
Survivors include a son, Thealon E. (Veda) Howlett of Fultondale; a grandson, Eddy Howlett of Fultondale; a great-granddaughter, Angel Hardin of Chelsea; a brother, Garlon (Coleen) Calvert of Mt. Olive; and a sister, Melzie Gandy of Pell City.

Mr. Garrett died Tuesday, Feb. 4 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 10, 1929 in Bessemer to Clyde and Martha Strain Garrett. He was a retired sales representative from Lancaster Oldsmobile in Tuscaloosa and a member of Second Baptist Church in Bessemer.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Emogene Hitt Garrett of Cullman; a daughter, Donna Jean Garrett Taylor of Upton, Ky.; two sons, Stephen David Garrett of Hartselle and Dale Allen Garrett of Grant; three brothers, Howard Garrett of Bessemer, Donald Garrett of Smoke Rise and Bobby Garrett of Memphis, Tenn.; five granddaughters, Robin Van Arman of Orange, Conn., Laurie Garrett and Shelley Fluharty of Lousiana, Dianna West of Indiana, and Melanie Garrett of Leaksville, Miss.; three grandsons, John Taylor of Elizabethtown, Ky., Shefton Lee Taylor of Kentucky and Lee Allen Garrett of Leaksville, Miss.; two great-granddaughters, Devon Morgan and Tristan Fluharty of Louisiana; and two great-grandsons, Craig Griffith of Orange, Conn. and Zachery Taylor of Kentucky.

Funeral services for James D. Malpass, 65, of Hanceville will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 at Moss Service Chapel, with burial in Cullman Memory Gardens with full military honors.

Mr. Malpass died Tuesday, Feb. 4 at his residence. He was 22-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in Vietnam, a lifetime member of the Greater Birmingham Bowling Association, having bowled at the Super Bowl of Pinson on the Tuesday night league for 20 years. He was also a retired member of the Arkadelphia Volunteer Fire Dept. where he maintained the equipment, helped with EMT calls and was their cook for fund-raisers.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Hagwood of Center Point, a brother, Donald Frank Malpass of Mt. Olive, a stepbrother, Alvin Hagwood of Center Point; and a grandson, Colton Reese Malpass of Dallas, Texas.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Anita Joan McAuley Malpass of Arkadelphia; four daughters, Janet (Steve) Morett of New York, Cindy (David) Jiminez of Texas, Donna (James) Petty of Alabama, and Jill Bolden of Texas; six grandchildren, Arvilla and Calvin Morettt, Amanda and Patrick Petty, and Heath and Justin Bolden; two sisters, Betty Cartee of Alabama and Joyce Boise of New Hampshire; long life friend C.F. Swann of Alabama; and two brothers-in-law, Robert McAuley and Jerry McAuley of Alabama.

Mr. Blalock died Tuesday, Feb. 4 in Birmingham. He was born in Jefferson County on April 22, 1939 to J.T. and Lila Jordan Blalock.
He was preceded in death by his mother.

Blalock of Moulton; two daughters, Terrie (Domingo) Chirinos of Summerdale and Amy (Joey) Jones of Warrior; a sister, Janice Hays of Warrior; an ex-wife, Laura Jean Hays of Warrior; six grandchildren, Jerry, Chris and Michael Miller, Cody and Seth McIntyre, and Sean Chirinos; and one great-grandchild, Emily Miller.
