Funeral services for Edwin Boyd Smith, 59, of Vinemont will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2003 at Bethlehem West Baptist Church, Tim Aris and Bruce Farr officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Smith died Wednesday, Feb. 19 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born May 6, 1943 in Cullman County to William Boyd and Eva Bruce Smith. He was a truck driver and a member of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jimmy Dale Smith; six brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Geroland Little Smith of Vinemont; a daughter, Lori Garrison of Hartselle; a brother, John Farr of Hanceville; three sisters, Kathy Giles of Michigan, Inez Baldridge of Missouri and Ophelia Barbee of Cullman; and a granddaughter, Karley Garrison.
Visitation was Thursday.
Stella Goodwin Nix
Funeral services for Stella Goodwin Nix, 90, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003 at Antioch Baptist Church, the Revs. Charles Gentry and Javon Daniel officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Nix died Thursday, Feb. 20 at Cullman Long Term Care. She was born April 21, 1912 to Oscar and Pearlie Fine Goodwin. She was a machine operator for Blue Bell Garment Manufacturing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Cordie Nix; two sisters, Estelle Love and Hazel Gentry Scott; a brother, Ervin Goodwin; and a granddaughter, Deborah Leonard.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry (Vicki) Nix of Cullman and Jimmy (Sunny) Nix of Hueytown; three daughters, Myrl (Arnold) Howse of Cullman, Marie (Truman) Dye of Gardendale and Peggy (Gerald) Leonard of Arab; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. today.
L.T. Woods
Funeral services for L.T. Woods, 94, of Hartselle are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by the funeral home.

Leona Myrel Smith

Mrs. Smith died Friday, Feb. 21 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born July 20, 1935 in Giles County, Tenn. to Authur and Myrel Griffin Giles. She was a nursing aid at Hanceville Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard T. Smith; her brother, Authur “Bucky” Giles; and three sisters, Wynelle Butler, Jackie Moore and Carolyn McClain.
Survivors include two sons, Michael A. (Kathy) Smith and Thomas J. (Sherry) Smith; a brother, Wayne Giles of Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters, Judy Mayse and Jo Ann Brown of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Wes Smith, Wade Smith and Shane T. Smith.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mamie Ethel Kugler Nix
Funeral services for Mamie Ethel Kugler Nix, 95, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003 at Moss Service Chapel, Lawrence Normand officiating, with burial in Missionary Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Nix died Thursday, Feb. 20 at Woodland Village Health Care Center. She was born Oct. 11, 1907 to Charles G. and Leona Roden Kugler. She was a homemaker and a member of Brickyard Baptist Church for 58 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Nix; her parents; six brothers, Carl, Floyd, Wendell, Ted, Raymond, and Rufus Kugler; and a sister, Tressie Yearwood.
Survivors include two sons, Harold E. “Shorty” Nix and Jack Nix; two daughters, Susie Henslee and “Ralph” Tucker; two brothers, C.G. Kugler and Othell Kugler; three sisters, Earlene Mosley, Hilda Goodwin and Pearlena Patterson; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Friday.
Ruth E. Quick
Funeral services for Ruth E. Quick, 83, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003 at Moss Service Chapel, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Mrs. Quick died Thursday, Feb. 20 at Woodland Village Health Care. She was born Nov. 1, 1919 to Enoch W. and Minnie Shoemaker Jones. She was a retired clothing inspector.

(Brenda) Quick; two sisters, Faye (Larry) Swindoll and Shirley (Terry) Smith; three grandchildren, Vincent Quick, Shannon Morris and Tonya Cocke; four great-grandchildren, Kala Quick, Collin Cocke, Eric Quick, and Alex Quick; and special friend, Dr. Paul Freeman.

Sgt. Maj. Herschel William McDowell Sr.
Graveside services for Sgt. Maj. Herschel William McDowell Sr., 72, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003 at Cullman Memory Gardens.

Sgt. Maj. McDowell died Wednesday, Feb. 19 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born Oct. 14, 1930 in Cullman to C.B. and Nettie Mae Sullivan McDowell. He served 27 years active duty in the U.S. Army. He served in Germany, Korea and Vietnam. His awards include the Silver Star for valor and a Purple Heart. Upon retirement from the Army, he was a construction/builder in Cullman County for 15 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include two sons, Herschel William “Dink” McDowell Jr. of Cullman and Ronald Frick of Germany; a step-daughter, Dena (James) Bright of Bremen; a brother, Floyd McDowell of Cullman; two sisters, Frances McCullough of Guntersville and Patricia McMinn of Cullman; and a step-grandson, James Bright Jr.

Mr. Gober died Thursday, Feb. 20 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born in Etowah County to Cyrus Clifton and Etta Lou Copeland Gober. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Blountsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Beulah Lee Vasser Gober.
Survivors include a daughter, Polly Dyer; and a brother, J.T. (Hazel) Gober of Blountsville.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Gober, Ross Smith, Charles Smith, Rodney Smith, Bob Gober, and Cecil Philyaw Jr.

Mr. Chesser died Friday, Feb. 21 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born March 29, 1952 in Cullman County to Raymond and Bernice Chesser. He was a retired retail store manager.
Survivors include his wife, Molly Hollis of Cullman; his parents; two sons, Raymond Keith Chesser II of Cullman and John Allan Chesser of Texas; two sisters, Debora Jean (Ed) Powers of Georgia and Dona Kay Moody of Cullman; and three grandchildren, Camron, Corey and Christopher Chesser.
