Graveside services for Gennie Inez Henderson, 90, of Cullman will be at noon Friday, March 28, 2003 at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tenn.

Mrs. Henderson died Wednesday, March 26 at Woodland Village Health Care Facility. She was born Jan. 11, 1913 in Covington, Tenn. to Sam and Myrtle Blankenship Faught. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include a son, Danny Henderson of Paris Landing, Tenn.; a daughter, Joan Chmiel of Destin, Fla.; two grandchildren, Melanie Weisser of Mobile and Donna Perez of Baltimore, Md.; and three great-grandchildren, Carley Weisser and Connor Weisser, both of Mobile and Damita Perez of Baltimore, Md.
Johnny Lee Hesterley
Funeral services for Johnny Lee Hesterley, 89, of Florence will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Jeffrey C. French officiating, with entombment at Cullman Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Hesterley died Tuesday, March 25 at Gleenwood Nursing Home in Florence after a lengthy illness. She was born June 13, 1913 in Randolph County to Dr. Charles and Georgia Bell Traylor Gross. She was one of eight children. She was a teacher. She and her husband lived for many years in Cullman County on their farm in East Point. Mr. Hesterly died in 1982.
She graduated from Fairview High School and attended the University of Alabama. She graduated from Florence State Teachers College and received a master of arts degree in education from George Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. She received an education specialist degree from later graduate work at the University of Alabama and Auburn University. She was a teacher and principal at East Point and Goldridge schools. She then took a position as supervisor of instruction for Cullman County Schools, and later as coordinator of instruction for Lawrence County Schools.
She was a charter member of the Cullman Lioness Club in 1977, served as its first president, and was recognized as Lioness of the Year. She was active and held leadership positions in BPW, ADK, BSP, the Retired Teachers Association, AARP, the local garden club, and Cullman Campers. She was also a leader in Project Head Start and the Cullman County Commission on Aging.
She was a quilt maker and made quilts for each grandchild’s wedding.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Lee Onice Hesterley.
Survivors include two daughters, Georgia Rebecca Hesterley French of Auburn and Mary Lee Hesterley Darby of Florence; two sons-in-law, Dr. John French of Auburn and David Darby of Florence; two sisters, Georgia Gross Matthews of Florala and Sara Gross Alison of Minter; seven grandchildren, Leigh French Cosby, Jay French, Lisa French Barrett, Jeff French, Jonathan Darby, Joseph Darby and Dr. Emily Darby; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Darby, Joseph Darby, Jay French, Bobby Barrett Jr., Don Burnam and Lonnie Denson.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
Thurel Othel Kugler
Funeral services for Thurel Othel Kugler, 55, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Larry Brown and Julius Guthrie officiating, with burial in Missionary Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Kugler died Tuesday, March 25 in Etowah County. He was born Aug. 24, 1947 in Cullman to Othell D. and Cora Bell James Kugler. He was a truck driver for Speegle Contractors and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his parents; his wife, Carol Jean McCollum Kugler of Cullman; a son, Greg (Bobbie Jo) Kugler of Cullman; a daughter, Sandy (Mike) Dye of Cullman; three grandchildren, Jacob Kugler, Colton Kugler and Michael Dye; and a mother-in-law, Ruth Bair of Flint, Mich.
Visitation was Thursday.
Gene Peek
Funeral services for Gene Peek, 66, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Alton Bailey officiating, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Mr. Peek died Thursday, March 27 at his residence. He was born Aug. 14, 1936 in Cullman to Othell and Delphia Pearson Peek. He was a coal miner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jimmie Lou Peek; and a granddaughter, Elaine Durham.
Survivors include two sons, Ricky Peek and Tim Peek; three daughters, Mary “Susie” Peek, Nena Peek and Nancy Peek; two stepsons, David Jacobs and Mark Jacobs; two stepdaughters, Vanissa Miller and Constance Calvert; two brothers, Jerry Peek and Gary Peek; a sister, Joyce Narrell; eight grandchildren, Christy Durham, Andrew Peek, Cade Peek, Charis Peek, Brook Durham, Katy Peek, Will Peek and Christina Sheer; a great-grandchild, Kyle Sheer; and 12 step-grandchildren, all of Cullman.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Martha Sue Underwood
Funeral services for Martha Sue Underwood, 63, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Mac Buttram and Elton Rutherford officiating, with burial in Emeus Cemetery.

Mrs. Underwood died Wednesday, March 26 at Baptist Medical Center, Montclair. She was born Aug. 6, 1939 in Cullman. She was a secretary for City Electric Co. in Cullman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira J. Nix and Josephine Tubbs Nix; her husband, Elton Wayne Underwood; her brother, Junior Nix; and her sister, Earlene Campbell.
Survivors include two sons, Mark (Kim) Underwood of Hanceville and Paul (Kim) Underwood of Crane Hill; a sister, Paulene (Ott) Freeman of Cullman; and five grandchildren, Brandon Underwood, Kameika Underwood, Dustin Underwood, Caleb Underwood and Jaden Underwood.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Casey died Wednesday, March 26 at Woodland Village Health Care Facility. He was born in Blount County on Dec. 2, 1924 to the Rev. W.T. and Ethel Brown Casey. He was a retired equipment operator for Jefferson County and a member of Grant Street Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Belle Hamby Casey; two daughters, Fredia (L.N.) Williams of Baileyton and Carolyn Murphree of Holly Pond; two brothers, Curtis (Beverly) Casey of Clearview, Fla. and Roy (Annie Lou) Casey of Bessemer; three sisters, Mary Bavars, Margie (Rufus) Speakman and Billie Ruth Wisener, all of Cullman; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his nephews.

Beatrice Louise Ponder

Mrs. Ponder died Friday, March 28. She was born in Cullman County April 1, 1916 to George Bertis and Ardellia Jones Bailhart.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Berdis Bailhart.
Survivors include two sons, Delane (Nettie) Ponder and George (Jane) Ponder; four sisters, Bonnie Harnden Bertha Howse, Beana Mason and Berlene Thrasher; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Banks died Friday, March 28, 2003 at Woodland Village Healthcare Center. He was born Dec. 13, 1909 in Fayetteville, Ga. to Luther Melvin and Minerva Ann Eason Banks. He was a retired carpenter with Brice Building Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Edna Mozelle Bailey.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, William E. “Bunk” Stidham of Duck River; a son, Danny (Martha) William Stidham of Cullman; three daughters, Rhonda (David) Leathers of Cullman, Renay (Steve) Bullard of Arab and Leeann Stidham of Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
