Gaspar Renda
Services for Gaspar Renda, O.S.B., 62, of Cullman will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002 at St. Bernard Abbey Church, with burial in the Abbey Cemetery.

Brother Gaspar died Tuesday, Jan. 9 at the Abbey. He was born in Birmingham on Nov. 2, 1939 to Anthony and Rose Rumore Renda. He was a member of St. Bernard Abbey. His early education was received at St. Clement’s Catholic Grammar School in Birmingham. He began his high school education at Our Lady of Good Counsel in St. Louis,Mo. and graduated from John Carroll in Birmingham. He served in the U.S. Navy as a second class petty officer in the radar division from 1958 to 1962 and the United States Postal Service until 1990. In 1991 he came to St. Bernard Abbey to enter the formation program as a postulant. In 1992 he entered the Novitiate and professed Simple Vows in 1993. During his years in the monastery he served as assistant guestmaster, worked with the sick of the community, helped with hospitality for tourists at the Ave Maria Grotto.
Brother Gaspar’s body was received by the monks in the Abbey Church Wednesday after which the body was to lie in state and Vespers of the Dead were sung.
Beatrice Cornett Shaddix
Services for Beatrice Cornett Shaddix, 83, of Eva will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2002 at Bethel United Methodist Church, Wayne Vincent and Harold Thompson officiating, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral.

Mrs. Shaddix died Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Oct. 30, 1918 in Blount County to Albert Monroe and Ersie Clayton Cornett. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Ola Hill Cornett; a daughter, Carolyn; three brothers, Bernard, Paul and Alvin Cornett; and two sisters, Emmalene Cornett and Dura Pace.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Shaddix of Eva; three sons, Charles (Ann) Shaddix of Riverdale, Calif., Elton (Wendy) Shaddix of Eva and Danny “Tiny” (Joyce) Shaddix of Cullman; a daughter, Jane (Ferrell) Wimbs of Eva; two brothers, Monroe (Florence) Cornett and Larance Cornett, both of Cullman; three sisters, Madaline (Celton) Horton of Eva, June (Leon) Harris of Holly Pond and Nell (Jerry) Barbee of Cullman; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. today.
Fred Adolph Moehring
Services for Fred Adolph Moehring, 78, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2002 at Valley Springs Baptist Church, Alan Yeater officiating, with burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Mr. Moehring died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002 at his residence. He was born June 7, 1923 in Cullman to John and Elizabeth Moehring. He was a farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Mamel Moehring of Cullman; a daughter, Shurla Dickinson of St. Louis, Mo.; a son, Freddie Moehring of Hanceville; a sister, Freda Freeman of Good Hope; a brother, George Moehring of Good Hope; four grandchildren, Mona Derrick of Silver Springs, Md., Kiril Dickinson of Jacksonville, Matthew Dickinson of St. Louis, Mo. and Arminda Wey of New Brunswick, N.J.; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob Derrick of Silver Springs, Md., Aaron Wey and Hannah Wey, both of New Brunswick, N.J.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Cullman County or the Heart Association.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Viola S. Kilgo
Services for Viola S. Kilgo, 73, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2002 at Bethlehem East Baptist Church, the Revs. Lawrence Normand and Ray Ponder officiating, with burial in Bethlehem East Cemetery in Hanceville. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Kilgo died Wednesday, Jan. 9 in Cullman. She was born March 23, 1928 in Cullman County to Elijah and Cora Beatrice Patterson Stewart. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sons, Randy and Jimmy Kilgo.
Survivors include her husband, Elvert Kilgo of Hanceville; three daughters, Patty Campbell and Sandra Huerta, both of Hanceville and Wanda Franklin of Cullman; a son, Dale Kilgo of Hanceville; three sisters, Lilly Elliott of Summiton, Agnes Scales of Gadsden and Ruth Smith of Houston; a brother, Euel Stewart of Mt. Olive; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Services for Eunice Butler, 86, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2002 at Hanceville Funeral Home, the Revs. Frank Nobinger and Sanford Bailey officiating, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Mrs. Butler died Wednesday, Jan. 9 in Cullman. She was born Dec. 4, 1915 in Cullman to William and Josie Johnson Bailey. She was employed in poultry processing.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include a son, Charles (Dot) Butler of Hanceville; five brothers, Carlton Bailey, Claude Bailey, Grady Bailey, Jady Bailey, Sanford Bailey, all of Cullman; a sister, Edna Johns of Cullman; six grandchildren, David Butler, Chris and Rita Butler, Sam and Shea Butler, Wander Butler; and five great-grandchildren, Megan, Charlotte, Rosanna, Steven and Adam.

Mr. Howard died Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born in Cullman County Sept. 11, 1931 to Tomie J. Sr. and Bertie Hollaway Howard. He was a retired assembly worker for General Motors and a member of House of Prayer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Buford Howard and Raymond Howard; and a sister, Margie Howard Burks.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Burrow Howard of Cullman; four sons, Tomie Phillip (Karen) Howard of Cullman, Jeffrey (Mary) Howard of Decatur, Gregory (Robbie) Howard of Bliss, N.Y. and Mark (Kathryn) Howard of Anniston; two daughters, Kimberly (Sammy) Calvert of Cullman and Amy (Randall) Black of Holly Pond; three brothers, Quentis Howard of Pinson, Harold Howard of Kalamazoo, Mich., Royce Howard of Cullman; three sisters, Dot Dahlke of Holly Pond, Frances Estes of Haleyville, Nelda Hyde of Cullman; 19 grandchildren, Tomie P. Raymond Owen Howard
Memorial services for Raymond Owen Howard, 62, of Florida City, Fla. will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2002 at Branam Funeral Home.

Mr. Howard died Monday, Jan. 7 at Miami Medical Center. He was born Feb. 23, 1939 in Cullman County to Tomi J. Sr. and Bertie Hollaway Howard. He worked for the Florida State Highway Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Buford Howard; a sister, Margie Howard Burks. His brother, Tomi J. Howard Jr. died Jan. 8, 2002.
Survivors include three daughters, Lorrie Courtney of Jacksonville, Fla., Victoria Marcotte of Florida City, Fla., Rebecca Ervin of Naples, Fla.; three brothers, Quentis Howard of Pinson, Harold Howard of Kallamazoo, Mich., Royce Howard of Cullman; three sisters, Dot Dahlke of Holly Pond, Frances Estes of Haleyville, Nelda Hyde of Cullman; and five grandchildren.
Perney Gaines

Martha Ann ‘Mattie’ Boyd
Services for Martha Ann “Mattie” Boyd, 96, of Decatur will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002 at Roselawn Funeral Home, the Rev. Pat Brock officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Mrs. Boyd died Tuesday, Jan. 8 at her residence. She was born in Marshall County on Dec. 10, 1905 to Thomas Jefferson and Josephine Louise Gann Boyd. She was a former employee of Goodyear Mill and a member of West Cullman Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lillian Self and Mabel Barnett; and three brothers, Erskine Boyd, Ernest Boyd and Isaac Boyd.
Survivors include three sisters, Opal Norton, Pearl Smith and Idelma Abbott, all of Decatur; and a brother, Carl Boyd of Decatur.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.
Willie Mandy Miller
Services for Willie Mandy Miller, 93, of Cullman will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, the Rev. Bob Kurtz officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Mrs. Miller died Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born June 19, 1908 to Clifford and Victoria Sivley Patterson. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include five sons, Marc (Sherron) Miller, James (Winie) Miller, Ed (Mary) Miller, Harold (Muriel) Miller and Buzzy (Nel) Miller; 19 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Thursday.
