Rosetta ‘Zetta’ Edmondson

Services for Rosetta “Zetta” Edmondson, 100, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Bill Burkett officiating, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Edmondson died Thursday, Jan. 24 at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born Nov. 29, 1901 in Cullman County to John William and Susan Rebecca Turner Laney. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Oscar Edmondson; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Survivors include two sons, Howard O. Edmondson of Vinemont and J.O. (Olive) Edmondson of Caldonia, Miss.; four daughters, Maxine Tucker, Hazel E.Clark, Charlotte (Maxie) Butler, all of Cullman and Bellette (Carter) Bullard of Prattville; 19 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Friday.

Vernice Belle Ridgeway

Services for Vernice Belle Ridgeway, 85, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, J.C. Graves officiating, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ridgeway died Thursday, Jan. 24 at Woodland Village Health Care. She was born on Feb. 13, 1916 in Cullman to John Franklin and Pearl Gunter Cadle. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Forney Ridgeway.

Survivors include a son, Willie F. (Jeraldine) Ridgeway of Cullman; a daughter, Shelby (Donald) Day of Cullman; two brothers, Ottis Murphy of Tarrant City and Grove Cadle of Cullman; five grandchildren, Keith Ridgeway, Kerry Ridgeway, Tommy Day, Kathy Montgomery and Donna Brooks; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Friday.

Bertha Isaphine Shelton

Services for Bertha Isaphine Shelton, 92, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Dudley Brock officiating, with burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shelton died Thursday, Jan. 24 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born June 10, 1909 in Lauderdale County to Oscar Dual and Ora Johnson McLemore.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, William Leo Shelton

Survivors include two sons, Marvin Eugene (Margaret) Shelton of Hanceville and Jerry Lee (Lynette) Shelton of Cullman; eight daughters, Evelyn (Harvey) Brady and Dean Works, both of Tennessee, Ruby Quick, and Julia (Alvin) Mayhall, both of Hanceville, Geraldine (Gary Faulkner) Maddox of Tuscumbia, Linda (Charley) Link and Joyce Drake, both of Cullman, and Kathy (Frank) Pate of Shoals; 33 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ralph Gordon Basch Sr.
Services for Ralph Gordon Basch Sr., 82, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002 at Sacred Heart Church, the Revs. Kevin McGrath and Cletus Meagher officiating, with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Basch died Saturday, Jan. 26 at his residence. He was born in Cullman County on Sept. 9, 1919 to Fred M. and Julie Ishon Basch. He was the owner of Basch Brothers Hardware. He was a member of the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Woerz Basch; son, Ralph (Melody) Basch Jr or Cullman.; daughter, Nancy Basch Harrison of Cullman; three brothers, Windlon Besch, Fred Besch both of Tampa, Fla., Bill Basch of Cullman; three sisters, Charlotte Osborn, Violet Schuman, Marlene Adams all of Cullman; and five grandchildren, Ben Harrison, Ross Harrison, Nathan Basch, Jared Basch and Trent Basch all of Cullman.

Pallbearers will be Ben Harrison, Ross Harrison, Nathan Basch, Jared Basch, Edgar Veigl and Pete Fountain.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to the Sacred Heart Church Christmas Fund.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. A rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Avous Mae Dees

Services for Avous Mae Dees, 86, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2002 at Fairview First Baptist Church, the Revs. Truman Davis and Horace Hall officiating, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state an hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Dees died Saturday, Jan. 26 at Folsom Center. She was born in Randolph County on March 5, 1915 to James E. and Lethia Overton Cummings. She was a store clerk and Cummings Sporting Goods.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Milous V. Haynes, Chester Dees; daughter, Margaret Powell; son-in-law, Jerry Patrick.

Survivors include two son, James (Linda) Haynes of Birmingham, Jerry (Margie) Haynes of Hanceville; four daughters, Shirley Patrick, Donna (Perry) Ashley, Monta-Rhe Phillips all of Cullman, Linda Haynes Widner of Winchester, Tenn.; three brothers, James O. Cummings, David Cummings both of Cullman, Darold Cummings of Owega, N.Y.; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Bessie Holcomb

Services for Bessie Holcomb, 85, of Eva will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002 at Bethel Methodist Church, Whitt Wray and Guy Hunt officiating, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state an hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Holcomb died Friday, Jan. 25 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born in Morgan County on Oct. 19, 1916 to Alvin Oscar and Lilla Mardis Millwood. She was homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Ottis Holcomb; daughter, Carolyn McKee; and son, Gorden Holcomb.

Survivors include her son, James Rawlan (Tina) Holcomb of Union Hill; five daughters, Tempie (Raymond) Spink of Huntsville, Patsy (Bobby) Beavers of Oden Ridge, Linda Woodall of Rock Creek, Judy (James) Kretzschmar of Ohatchee, Joan (Vann) Wray of Holly Pond; brother, A.B. Millwood of Vinemont; three sisters, Wilda Holmes, Peggy Holmes, Ruth Williams all of Gum Pond; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.

Visitation was Saturday.

John Fred Poole

Services for John Fred Poole, 68, of Falkville will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002 at Union Hill Baptist Church near Eva, the Rev. Phillip Sessions officiating, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state an hour prior to the service.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Poole died Friday, Jan. 25 at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born in Cullman on July 8, 1933 to Charlie Dewey and Ruth Odesa Foster Poole. He was retired from Wayne Farms and was a member of Unity Freewill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charlie Poole Jr.; and one daughter, Dawn Poole.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldean Poole of Falkville; three daughters, Ramona Eargle of Vinemont, Rebecca McCleskey of Hartselle, Rachel Smallwood of Decatur; two brothers, Ezra Poole of Snead, Kenneth Poole of Oneonta; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.

Visitation was Saturday.

Joseph W. Kneifel
Services for Joseph W. Kneifel, 79, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Paul Hicks officiating, with burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kneifel died Sunday, Jan. 27 at his residence. He was born Aug. 6, 1922 in Chicago, Ill. to Joseph Frank and Lena Bertha Fortmiller Kneifel. He was retired from Miles Laboratories. He was a member of the U.S. Army and a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Mabel Louise Kneifel.

Survivors include three brothers-in-law, Robert (Velva) Ergle of Berlin, Jr. Bill Ergle and Billy Joe Ergle, both of Elkhart, Ind.; a sister, Lavern Horton of Elkhart, Ind.; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Ergle Barth of Bristol, Ind.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Cullman County or Northside Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Flora Marie Hurt

Memorial services for Flora Marie Hurt, 77, of Double Springs will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Jon Fallows officiating.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hurt died Saturday, Jan. 26 at her residence. She was born July 25, 1924 in Double Springs to George Thomas and Hattie P. Marbale Reeves. She was a retail store clerk.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, William A. Hurt.

Survivors include a son, Leonard E. Hurt; a daughter, Linda Voss of Cullman; a brother, George Gray; two granddaughters, Tonya Voss and Kimberly Voss; three nephews, Roy Reeves, Frankie Reeves and Harry Reeves; and two grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.

Mamie Edna Rusk Young

Services for Mamie Edna Rusk Young, 77, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Rev. Keith Whitley officiating, with burial in Crossroads Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Young died Saturday, Jan. 26 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born April 18, 1924 in Winston County to Robert and Mamie Hudson Rusk. She was a nurse’s aide at Cullman County Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dale O. Young; and two daughters, Sharyn Harris and Edna Gail Young.

Survivors include four sons, Gary (Lois) Young, Keith Young and Kim Young, all of Cullman, Klyne (Susan) Young of Georgia; two sisters, Clara Mack Andrews of Addison and Verna Denton of Mobile; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Monday.
