Services for Vernon Lee Knighten, 71, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, the Revs. Vernon Alvis and Chris Hester officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Mr. Knighten died Thursday, Jan. 31 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 22, 1931 to Wavy I. and Marie Woodruff Knighten. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Sue Nelson Knighten; and two brothers, Ralph Knighten and Earnest James Knighten.
Survivors include a son, Gregory L. (Kathy) Knighten of Irving, Texas; two daughters, Sharon Painter of Cullman and Charlotte (Frank) Ecklund of Madison; and nine grandchildren, Kim Anderson, Suzanne Coe, Kelly Ecklund, Lydia Knighten, Sarah Knighten, Zachary Weldon, Nicholas Anderson, Katelyn Coe and Landon Coe.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.
James H. ‘Son’ Hollingsworth
Services for James H. “Son” Hollingsworth, 71, of Blountsville will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2002 at Blountsville Funeral Home Chapel, Keith Upton and Troy Halbrook officiating, with burial in Mt. Joy Cemetery near Cleveland.

Mr. Hollingsworth died Wednesday, Jan. 30 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born in Blount County to Jim and Donie Perkins Hollingsworth. He was a retired truck driver with the State of Alabama Highway Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Dorning Hollingsworth of Blountsville; son, Dennis (Donna) Vincent of Blountsville; three daughters, Bonnie (Ronald) Duke of Snead; Twona (Keith) Upton of Horton; Sonya (Wendell) New of Blountsville; brother, L.D. Hollingsworth of Attalla; sister, Nette Alford of Hokes Bluff; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and special friend, Keesha Cunningham of Blountsville.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Duke, Tony Hamby, Nathan Arrington, Alvaro Garcia, Juan Gonzalez, Bill Feltman.
Elzie William Dunkin
Services for Elzie William Dunkin, 93, of Falkville will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, with burial in Duck River Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Dunkin died Friday, Feb. 1 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born Aug. 26, 1908 in Cleburne County to Author and Lavader McElroy Dunkin. He was a farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ethel Burgess Dunkin; and three daughters, Clarice Garmon, Elean Lawrence and Doice Dunkin.
Survivors include five sons, J.P. Dunkin and Bobby (Jewel) Dunkin, both of Cullman, Edker (Lee) Dunkin of Florida, Billy Dunkin of Huntsville and Buddy (Linda) Dunkin of Cotaco; 22 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Willie Kate Hill Cook
Services for Willie Kate Hill Cook, formerly Willie Kate Hill, 85, of Moundville were Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, Kenneth Bailey officiating, with burial in Rocky Branch Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Cook died Wednesday, Jan. 30 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 6, 1916 to Ray and Lela Carpenter Jean. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include four sons, Buddy (Rose) Eskew of Foley, Donald (Betty) Eskew of Fresno, Calif., Bobby (Dita) Hill of Cullman and Bill Hill of Moundville and his special friend Linda of Northport; two sisters, Mrs. U.V. Red Haynes and Mrs. Gwen (Dorsey) Ussery; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Rocky Branch Baptist Church in Wedowee or the church of your choice.
Visitation was Thursday.
Dovie Pearl Murphree
Services for Dovie Pearl Murphree, 92, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002 at Enon Missionary Baptist Church, Perry Brown officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Murphree died Friday, Feb. 1 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born Sept. 9, 1909 to Walker C. and Ida Ray Holmes. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ervin Murphree; her son, Aubrey Murphree; two sisters, Cloia Brown and Leva Marlow; and a brother, Fritz Holmes.
Survivors include a daughter, Audrey (August) Hartwig of Cullman; a daughter-in-law, Geraldine Holmes; a brother, Cecil Holmes of Pontiac, Mich.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 5:30 p.m. today.
Clifford D. Holmes
Services for Clifford D. Holmes, 88, of Falkville will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002 at Peck Funeral Home, Phillip Hines officiating, with burial in Hartselle City Cemetery.

Ms. Holmes died Friday, Feb. 1 at Summerford Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 14, 1913 to Walter and Lena Eason Dunlap. She was a sales clerk at Elmore’s and a Methodist.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her sister, Carmaleta Cryer of Meridianville.
Pallbearers will be her nephews.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Alvis died Saturday, Feb. 2 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born in Cullman County on Feb. 5, 1931 to Virgil Jackson and Carrie Bowen Alvis. He was a painter. He was a member of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War and was a member of the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, J.V. Alvis, Toppy Alvis, Jack Alvis, Jerry Alvis.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Townsend Alvis of Good Hope; four daughters, Cathy Clos, Linda Mena, Virginia (Robert) Barber, Renee Alvis all of Cullman; one brother, Millard Alvis of Mississippi; one sister, Patsy Murch of Cullman; five grandchildren, Anthony McEwen, Christopher Parker, Kenny Barber, Keith Barber, Luke Holmes; and one great-grandchild, Morgan Parker.

Mr. Drinkard died Friday, Feb. 1 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born in Morgan County on May 9, 1937 to Joseph Wheeler and Ollie Childers Drinkard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John Drinkard, Jim Drinkard, Shelby Drinkard; and two sisters, Imogene Drinkard, Virginia Barnette.
Survivors include two brothers, Avery (Othell) Drinkard of Cullman, Thomas (Doris) Drinkard of Morgan County; and three sisters, Zera (James) Brasher of Hartselle, Janie Bates, Geraldean (Robert) New both of Cullman.

Services for Era English, 87, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Funeral Chapel, the Revs. Jack Collins and Paul Hicks officiating, with burial in Liberty Baptist (Helicon) Cemetery in Winston County.

Mrs. English was born in Winston County on July 14, 1914 to Chester Leardie and Fannie Bell Ray Parris. She was retired from the produce business.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd English; son, J.L. English; step-mother, Feonia Tyree Parris; and eight brothers.
Survivors include two daughters, Lullene (Talmadge) Smith of Cullman, Delisa (Ralph) Cain of Vinemont; three grandchildren, Linda (Donald) Hunter, Todd (Kathryn) McLeroy both of Cullman, Dawn (Matt) Schoenbachler of Owensboro, Ky.; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Morgan died Sunday, Feb. 3 at Falkville Health Care. He was born Jan. 22, 1908 to James Monroe and Cora Bryant Morgan. He was a farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 53 years, Bertha Morgan; his wife of 16 years, Audie Morgan; and a great-grandson, Timothy Barnett.
Survivors include three daughters, Era (Kermit) Barnett and Helen Shadix, both of Sardis and Dean (Bobby) Browning of Hanceville; three stepsons, Buck (Barbara) Pigg of Cullman, Cecil Pigg of Addison and Wendell Pigg of Sardis; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
