Services for Jackson William Sullivan, 56, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Lynn Perkins and Waylon Thrasher officiating, with burial in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Sullivan died Saturday, Feb. 16 at the VA Hospital in Birmingham. He was born on Oct. 10, 1945 in Cullman County to William Frank and Octavia Oliver Sullivan. He was an auto body repairman. He was a member of the Marine Corps. and a veteran of Vietnam.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, James Sullivan, Dwight Sullivan and Billy Sullivan.
Survivors include his wife, Sharron Shikle Sullivan of Cullman; a son, Tony Darin Sullivan of Cullman; two daughters, Gayla (Brent) Burgess of Hartselle and Joell (Steven) Johns of Cullman; two brothers, Jude (Betty) Sullivan of Hulaco and Robert (Lee Ann) Sullivan; four sisters, Gwen Waldrop and Margaret Coker, both of Baileyton, Peggy (Bill) Nappier and Juanita Solley of Decatur; and three grandchildren, Kristan Burgess, Zane Johns and Allyson Burgess.
Visitation was Monday.
William ‘Bill’ Knight
Services for William “Bill” Knight, 74, of Arley will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002 at Meek Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Mr. Knight died Sunday, Feb. 17 at Carraway Methodist Medical Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Knight of Hartselle; a son, Eddie Knight of Hartselle, two brothers, Jim Knight of Decatur and Wes Knight of Toledo, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Thomas L. McAvoy Sr.
Services for Thomas L. McAvoy Sr., 82, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002 at Gardendale Chapel, the Revs. Gardner Walker and Randy Adamson officiating, with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Mr. McAvoy died Sunday, Feb. 17. He was a member of Gardendale Church of Christ; he retired from CSX Transportation after 30 years and was employed at the Birmingham City Zoo as the train engineer for 13 years. Mr. McAvoy was an Army veteran and served as a paratrooper in the airborne forces in World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Eula Mae McAvoy; a son, Thomas L. (Melba) McAvoy Jr. of Gardendale; three daughters, Zedda (Damon) Drain of Warrior, Tempie (Gardner) Walker of Fultondale and Lou (Domingo) Dominguez of Dallas, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Randy (Becky) Fuller and Kenneth (Kathy) Horton; a brother, Myron “Buddy” McAvoy of Gardendale; and two sisters, Melba Dismukes of Fultondale and Martha Phillips of Houston, Texas.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
Charles Merrill Gross
Memorial services for Charles Merrill Gross, 66, of Oxford, Miss. will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Waller Funeral Home Chapel of Oxford.
Mr. Gross died in Deer Park, Texas Thursday, Feb. 14, as a result of an automobile accident. He was a retired professor of art at the University of Mississippi. He began his teaching career in 1969 at Ole Miss and taught until 1997. He held terminal degrees in painting and sculpture and had many solo art exhibits over the past 25 years. His work has been shown in more than 100 group and juried exhibitions, winning state, regional and national awards. He is listed in Who’s Who in American Art and Who’s Who in the South and Southwest.
Survivors include his wife, Rosalie Westbrook Gross of Oxford, Miss.; a son, Robert Mark (Tiffany Crawford) Gross of Austin, Texas; his mother, Delma H. Gross of Birmingham; two sisters, Lynn Singleton of Birmingham and June Davidson of Russellville; and two brothers, John Gross of Vinemont and Jack Gross of Killen.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Blanche D. Self
Graveside services for Blanche D. Self, 89, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002 at Hopewell Cemetery, Mark Hines officiating.

She died Monday, Feb. 18 at Cullman Long Term Health Care. She was born June 28, 1913 to Alford V. and Mattie Alice Coker Holt. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a grandson, Jeff Brown of Canada; three nephews; and seven nieces.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. today.
August Robert Hartwig
Services for August Robert Hartwig, 70, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Harold Hermetz officiating, with burial in Gardens of Memory. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Hartwig died Monday, Feb. 18 at Woodland Village Health Care Center. He was born Oct. 20, 1931.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey M. Hartwig; a son, Tim (Carolyn) Hartwig; a daughter, Sandra (Keith) Hartwig; three brothers, Alvin, Clarence and Karl Hartwig; three sisters, Esther Jennings, Lena Henry and Caroline Hartwig; six grandchildren, Amanda Neely, Marissa Hartwig, Jonathan Neely, Ben Waid, Denise Ellison and Jamie Seals; and three great-grandchildren, Justin and Ethan Ellison and Christian Seals.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Hartwig’s nephews.

Services for Oather Kilgo, 66, of Arab will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002 at Gober Funeral Chapel, John Taymon officiating, with burial Bethsadia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Kilgo died Monday, Feb. 18 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born in Alabama on Sept. 22, 1935 to Woodrow and Grace Brown Kilgo. He was chief operator at PDR Properties.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Sylvia Jean.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Kilgo of Arab; three sons, Dwaine Delane Kilgo of Blountsville, Keith Dwaine Kilgo, Timothy Woodrow (Laura) Kilgo both of Arab; one brother, Bobby Jack Kilgo of Union Grove; seven sisters, Opal Clements of Oneonta, Frances Craddock of Nashville, Tenn., Willodean Davis, Martha Leipert, Carolyn McBreyer all of Cullman, Marie Glover of Vinemont, Betty Smith of Goldridge; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Allene Oliver Howell

Mrs. Howell died Monday, Feb. 18. She was born Sept. 1, 1921 in Cullman County.

Brown of Huntsville; a sister, Myrene Oliver of Huntsville; a brother, Roland A.G. Oliver of Tuscaloosa; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services for Mary Pearl King, 84, of White Settlement, Texas will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002 at Green wood Chapel, with burial in Green wood Memorial Park.

Mrs. King died Sunday, Feb. 17 at the home of her daughter. She was born Oct. 24, 1917 in Aubry, Texas to Jonathan McDaniel and Martha Ann Searcy Tanner. She spent her childhood in Cullman. She was a retired cook.who lived in Caney, Okla. before moving to Fort Worth.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Thomas Ray King.
Survivors include four daughters, Wilma Mayo of Burleson, Texas, Dessie Morris of Euless, Texas, Ann Jones of Duncan, Okla. and Jean Hunter of Sanger, Texas; three sons, A.G. (Ann) Lackey of Keller, Texas, Lon (Della) Hokett of Duncanville, Texas and Charles (Charlotte) Hokett of White Settlement, Texas; three stepsons, Tommy King of White Settlement, Texas, Bobby (Sheila) King of Tye, Texas and Carl King of Fort Worth, Texas; 28 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Clara Simmons Duncan

Mrs. Duncan died Tuesday, Feb. 19 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Feb. 19, 1919 to Henry Lee and Bertie Lindsey Simmons. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Hollis Duncan.
Survivors include two daughters, Catherine Duncan and Clarissa Whitworth; a brother, Windle Simmons; four sisters, Cleo Hart, Mary Rasinski, Betty Burgett and Cora Lee McNeil; and three grandchildren, Laura Duncan, Jenny Whitworth and Michael Whitworth.

Linda Geraldine Henderson
Memorial services for Linda Geraldine Henderson, 79, of Brandenton, Fla. will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Bob Kurtz officiating, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Mrs. Henderson died Wednesday, Jan. 30 at her residence. She was born Aug. 22, 1922, to Will Howard and Hassie Pearl Parker Watson. She was an accountant for Southland Corp. and a member of Trinity Chapter Lodge No. 240 of Eastern Star in Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl Hugh Henderson; and her brother, Donald D. Watson.
Survivors include a sister, Dorothy (Charles) York of Cullman; two nieces, Donna Love and Leesa Hooper; and three nephews, David York, David Watson and Michael Watson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. John’s Evangelical Protestant Church.
