Hubert Amos Bates

Services for Hubert Amos Bates, 74, of Crane Hill will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Tim Aris and Roy Crawford officiating, with burial in Prospect Church of Christ Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bates died Wednesday, March 6 at his residence. He was born in Cullman on Aug. 8, 1927 to L.E. and Sally Wilcutt Bates. He was a member of the U.S. Army and worked as a mill wright.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Novaleene Neismith Bates of Crane Hill; son, Frank V. Bates of Crane Hill; daughter, Alice Marie Bates of Vance; two sisters, Naomi Medlock of Fairview, Agnes Roberts of Cullman; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Mary Agnes LaRussa

Services for Mary Agnes LaRussa, 82, of Birmingham will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2002 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery.

Johns-Ridout’s Mortuary Elmwood Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. LaRussa died Tuesday, March 5. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard “Lopey” LaRussa.

Survivors include her son, Frank B. (Nan) LaRussa of Cullman; a daughter, Catherine L. (Kenneth) Smitherman of Bessemer; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lillie Rumore of Homewood.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today, with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Glen Jetton
Services for Glen Jetton, 82, of Baileyton will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Mt. Olive FCM Church, the Rev. Charles Dixon officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jetton died Thursday, March 7 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born on Dec. 5, 1919 in Cullman County to Jasper Edward and Beatrice Sanders Jetton. He was a truck driver, a member of Mt. Olive FCM Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Readie Jetton, Horace Jetton, Clarence Jetton and Thurman Jetton; and three sisters, Icle Stewart, Venus Corbitt and Unice Makerson.

Survivors include his wife, Victoria Camp Jetton of Baileyton; a son, Wayne (Ruth) Jetton of Cullman; a daughter, Brenda (Harold) Widener of Jefferson County; four grandchildren, Robin Johnson, David Widener, Terrie Wallace and Anita Cato; and seven great-grandchildren, Jessica Graham, Marisa Goodwin, Latasha Goodwin, Candace Freeman, Stephen Widener, Michael Goodwin and Nicholas Widener.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ezra Ray Duke

Services for Ezra Ray Duke, 66, of Hanceville will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Jerrol Smith officiating, with burial in Riverside Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Duke died Wednesday, March 6 at Baptist Medical Center -Montclair. He was born on Oct. 30, 1935 in Hanceville to Elbert and Radar Duke. He was an assemblyman for GM Motors in Flint, Mich., and a member of UAW 598 Local for 31 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a half-sister, Kathleen Davis; and a brother, Roy Duke.

Survivors include two sons, Gary (Rhonda) Duke of Linden, Mich. and Tommy Duke of Hanceville; two daughters, Sheri (Dennis) Eads of Flint, Mich. and Mishell (Tim) Rowe of Fenton, Mich.; a brother, Fred (Wanda) Duke of Hanceville; a sister, Imogene Jackson of Welti; a half-brother, James (Betty) Price of Hanceville; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Xan Coffee

Memorial services for Elizabeth Xan Coffee, 43, of Guntersville, formerly of Cullman, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, the Rev. Dale Moore officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died March 5 in Guntersville. She was born March 18, 1958.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Xan Coffee,

Thermon Calvert Tyree

Services for Thermon Calvert Tyree, 83, of Arley will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2002 at Liberty Baptist Church, Troy Cleghorn and Raymond Baker officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Tyree died Tuesday, March 5 at Carraway Burdick West.

Survivors include his wife, Ora Lee Tyree; two sons, Curtis Tyree of Helican and Tommy Tyree of Jasper; two daughters, Frances Virginia Tyree of Helican and Linda Clark of Haleyville; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Aubrey Tyree of Cullman and Samuel Tyree of Chicago, Ill.; and three sisters, Deliah Rooks of Helican, Brenda Bennett of Curry and Betty Neal of Arley.

Irene Warren
Services for Irene Warren, 80, of Holly Pond will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Cletus Nesmith officiating, with burial in New Hope No. 2 Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Warren died Thursday, March 7 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born Sept 13, 1921 in Blount County to Alexander and Viola Johns Little. She was a food supervisor for a nursing home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Velma Lee Warren.

Survivors include two sisters, Wilma (Dewey) Isom of Holly Pond and Ruby Strickland of White Oak, Ga.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Howard Edward Hamby

Services for Howard Edward Hamby, 54, of Logan will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Jerrol Smith officiating, with burial in Friendship Methodist Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hamby died Thursday, March 7 at his residence. He was born July 12, 1947 in Cullman to Willie Lee and Nellie Laseter Hamby. He was a truck driver for Kenny Pipe.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his mother; his wife, Betty Chaney Hamby of Logan; three sons, Justin Dale Hamby and Charles Hamby, both of Logan, and Keith Hamby of Hanceville; a daughter, Nancy Hester of Vinemont; a stepson, Gary Melson of Ft. Payne; two stepdaughters, Rita Melson and Elaine Melson of Decatur; and 12 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.

Gerstle Burnette Calvert

Services for Gerstle Burnette Calvert, 94, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Kent Persall and Steve Tidwell officiating, with burial in Bowman Chapel Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Friday, March 8 at Woodland Village Health Care. She was born March 26, 1907 to Cicero Clements and Amy Sinyard Calvert. She was a homemaker and a lifetime member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Luther, Arthur, Ernest and Ofel Calvert; and four sisters, Ethel Smith, Clercy Smith, Hattie Garner and Velsie Allred.

Survivors include a brother, Herald “Babe” Calvert.

Visitation was Friday.

Ulysses P. Bartlett

Services for Ulysses P. Bartlett, 91, of Baileyton will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, with burial in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bartlett died Thursday, March 7 at his residence. He was born on Sept 4, 1910 in Baileyton to Richard and Etta Slaughter Bartlett. He was born passed away in the same residence.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Allie Waldrop Bartlett; and his son, L.D. Bartlett.

Survivors include two sons, Donald (Becky) Bartlett and Michael (Charlotte) Bartlett, both of Baileyton; two daughters, Sarah (J.C.) Rusk and Nancy (Dainward) Carroll, all of Baileyton; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Friday.

Mayme Idella Blake

Services for Mayme Idella Blake, 84, of Haleyville will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville, Dr. T.B. Stringfellow officiating, with burial in Fairview Cemetery in Double Springs.

Pinkard Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Blake died Thursday, March 7 at Sunbridge Nursing Home in Decatur. She was a lifelong resident of Haleyville and a member of First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howle George Blake.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia B. Israel of Hartselle; a grandson, Blake Allen Israel of Atlanta, Ga.; and a sister, Eunice Robinson of Tuscumbia.

Visitation was Friday.

Jerry E. Butts
Services for Jerry E. Butts, 46, of Holly Pond will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2002 at Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. DeJaun Reese and David Chambers officiating, with burial in Nixon Chapel Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Butts died Saturday, March 9 in Cullman County. He was born in Blount County on Oct. 27, 1956 to Durwad E. and Janice M. Doyle Butts. He was a member of Redan Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Survivors include his father of Holly Pond; and two sisters, Linda Akers of Ft. Worth, Texas, Brenda Butts of Holly Pond.

Pallbearers will be Lavaughn Butts, Gary McDonald, Joe Dale Garrett, Tim Pinkard, Andrew Chambers, Dwayne Denny and Andy Chambers.
