G. R. Horton Jr.

Services for G.R. Horton Jr., 88, of Fort Payne were Monday, March 18, 2002 at Rainsville Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Orien Ledford officiating, with burial in Mount Hermon Cemetery.

Rainsville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Horton died Saturday, March 16 at DeKalb Baptist Medical Center. He was a native of DeKalb County and resided in Sand Valley on the family farm, which included what was once the town of Bootsville, the third county seat of DeKalb County. He was a member of Mount.Hermon Baptist Church since 1932 and served as deacon since 1942. He was a mason and a life-long Republican. He retired from Kingsberry Homes in Fort Payne.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Maggie E. Horton; a son, B.J. Horton of Fort Payne; two daughters, Betty H. (Bill R.) Baswell of Cullman and Patsy H. Higgins of Rainsville; a sister, Dorotha H. Wood of Hanceville; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Ineree Garnett Chase

Services for Ineree Garnett Chase, 75, of Alexander City will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at Chapel of Radney Funeral Home, the Rev. Jan Piper officiating, with burial in Reeltown Cemetery.

Radney’s Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Chase died Saturday, March 23 at Russell Medical Center. She was born May 3, 1926 in Elmore County to John Luman and Flora Mae Melton Trammel Garnett. She was a sewing machine operator in the textile industry and was a member of Reeltown Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Jimmy (Sandra) Baker of Cullman and Bobby J. (Judy) Baker of Alexander City; two brothers, Elmer (Carolyn) Garnett of Smiths and Donald (Gail) Garnett of Mobile; a sister, Irene Griggs of Tallassee; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to the Baptist Children’s Home or to Hospice.

Visitation was Monday.

Dixie Partain Gregg

Services for Dixie Partain Gregg, 67, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Cullman, were held March 1, 2002 at Palm Mortuary in Las Vegas with burial in Bunkers Memory Garden.

Palm Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gregg died Feb. 24, 2002. She was born in Greeley, Colo. on Oct. 3, 1934. She was a 17-year resident of Cullman.

Survivors include her parents; Robert and Wanda Woods of Las Vegas; four children, Robert Partain, James Partain, Cherryl Tomaszewski all of Cullman, Dawn Bloodgood of Las Vegas; one brother, Kenneth Woods; one sister, Marianne Adams; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Othell Oakley Miller
Services for Othell Oakley Miller, 76, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, the Rev. Billy Gable and Dorothy Frady officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Miller died Monday, March 25 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Sept. 26, 1925 to Robert and Sylvia Oakley. She was a teacher and parent coordinator for Cullman County Head Start for 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband William Melvin Miller.

Survivors include her daughter, Xonnie Miller (Dennis) Johnson of Cullman; five brothers, James Thurman (Sue) Oakley of Cullman, Joseph (JoAnn) Oakley, Ferris Lamar (Linda) Oakley both of Vinemont; Joel (Leah) Oakley of Decatur, Bobby (Emily) Oakley of Alabaster; one sister, Eunice Roper of Vinemont; two grandchildren, Jaythan (Melissa) Johnson, Taylor Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Sydnee Johnson, Kacey Johnson.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Howard Rhodes

Services for Howard Rhodes, 77, of Crane Hill will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, Ron Gilbreath officiating, with burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in West Blockton.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rhodes died Monday, March 25 at his residence. He was born March 29, 1924 to Chester and Jessie Warren Rhodes. He was a stationary engineer.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Rhodes of Detroit; a daughter, Teresa Rhodes of Detroit; a brother, Herman (Vivian) Rhodes of Mobile; two grandchildren, Michelle Rhodes and Melanie Rhodes; three nieces; and five nephews.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Doyal Othel Griffin

Services for Doyal Othel Griffin, 87, of Vinemont will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Tim Aris and Larry Duke officiating, with burial in Blair Methodist Church Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Griffin died Tuesday, March 26 at his residence. He was born in Limestone County on Aug. 8, 1914 to Arthur Griffin and Audie Maner. He was a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stevie Griffin; and sister, Opal Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Wynn Griffin of Vinemont; two sons, Bobby (Gale) Griffin and Kenneth “Red” (Connie) Griffin of Cullman; daughter, Betty Garrett of Birmingham; eight brothers, Dewey, Dawson, Eugene, Verlie, Curtis, Horace, Monroe and Scotty Griffin; two sisters, Gladys Smith, Wilma McCravy; seven grandchildren, Sharon Fox, Karon McKelvy, Skip Griffin, Melinda Webb, Amy Griffin, Maria Wren, Kenny Griffin; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Skip Griffin, Kenny Griffin, Chad McKelvy, Zach Neely, Charlie Webb and Scotty Wren. Honorary pallbearers will be Jake Griffin and Jeb Griffin.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today.

Randolph Semion Hann

Services for Randolph Semion Hann, 88, of Vinemont will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Paul Rivers officiating, with burial in Livingston Tabernacle Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hann died Tuesday, March 26 at his residence. He was born in Jefferson County on Feb. 23, 1914 to Washington and Serina Burns Hann. He was an electrician.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Louise Hann of Vinemont; son, Randy Dale Hann of Dodge City; four step-children, Gary (Vikki) Leigeber of Oneonta, Greg (Rhonda) Leigeber of Vinemont, Janet (Bobby) Green of Altoona, Joanie (Jeff) Russell of Pinson; two sisters, Delialah Talley of Upsilanti, Mich., Eunice Carpenter of Walter; eight grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Clancy Danielle Taylor

Graveside services for Clancy Danielle Taylor, seven days, of Cullman will be Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Cemetery, George Sawyer officiating.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Monday, March 25 at UAB Hospital. She was born March 18 to Jeffery Heath and Danielle Taylor of Cullman; grandparents, Dana and Brenda Welch and Ronnie and Joan Taylor of Cullman; great-grandparents, Mable Brown, Gilbert and Earline Welch, Janelle Teichmiller and William and Gwenelle Taylor of Cullman; three brothers, Mitchell Taylor, Dewey Taylor and Brody Taylor; and a sister, Katie Taylor.

Iva Jean Carden

Services for Iva Jean Carden are incomplete and will be announced at a later date.

Kathleen ‘Nell’ Livingston

Services for Kathleen “Nell” Livingston, 62, of Falkville will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church, the Revs. Tim Kinney and Gary Miller officiating, with burial in Union Hill Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Livingston died Monday, March 25 at her residence. She was born in Cullman County on Aug. 1, 1939. She was a member of Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church and visited Victorious Life Church at Eva. She was owner and operator of Silk Creations Florist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milford Livingston; a daughter, Deborah Lynn Reeves; and her father, Avery Eargle Sr.

Survivors include three daughters, Laura Denise Gray, Delores Livingston and Diane Morgan, all of Falkville; her mother, Azzlee Runge Eargle of Falkville; three brothers, Basil Eargle and Jeff Eargle, both of Falkville and Michael Eargle of Cullman; three sisters, Deen Morgan and Beverly Bates, both of Falkville and Lynett “Nett” Graham of Cullman; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Reeves, Virgil Gray, Charlie Morgan, William “Smitty’ Smith, Jason Gray, and Ronald Veal.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Rev. Enos Almon Cross

Services for Rev. Enos Almon Cross, 80, of Decatur were Monday, March 25, 2002 at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, the Revs. James “Sammy” Evans, C.G. Redding, Alvin Tucker officiating, with burial in Old Bethel Cemetery.

Shelton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Cross died Friday, March 22 at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Jan. 19, 1922 in Lawrence County to John Henry and Vera Moran Cross. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and pastored churches in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas. He was a graduate of Clarke College of Newton, Miss.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Cross; three sons, E. Lakin Cross of Chattanooga, Tenn., John R. Cross of Decatur, and Dewight W. Cross of Hartselle; two sisters, Stella Moss of Muscle Shoals and Catherine Flanagan of Leighton; his stepmother, Linnie Cross of Leighton; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Iva Jean Carden
Services for Iva Jean Carden, 65, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Charles York officiating, with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Carden died Tuesday, March 26 at her residence. She was born March 4, 1937 in Cullman. She was a machine operator at Nicholson File.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Aurthur and Lula Mae Garner McSwain; her brother, Gerald McSwain; her sister, Delwyn Graves; and her grandson, Tommy Carden.

Survivors include two sons, Christopher (Donna) Carden of Arley and Michael Van Carden of Vinemont; three daughters, Pamela (Eric) Sullins of West Point, Rebecca (Rodney) Russell and Lisa (Barry) Wise of Cullman; two brothers, Mancel McSwain of Jones Chapel and Dwight McSwain of Cullman; two sisters, Shirley Cruce of Bremen and Glenda Bone of Arley; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lewis Hasenbein

Services for Lewis Hasenbein, are incomplete and will be announced at a later date.
