Alabama, U.S., County Marriage Records, 1805-1967 - 1814-1935

William E. Stimson

A memorial service for William E. Stimson, 86, of St. Peter’s, Pa., formerly of Hanceville will be announced at a later date. A private Burial will be held in St. Peter’s in the Great Valley Church Cemetery.

Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home of Royerford, Pa. is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stimson died Sunday, March 31 at his residence. He was born in Norfolk, Neb. to Mr. and Mrs. Luther Stimson. He was a graduate of Battle Creek High School in Nebraska, a mechanic and a U. S. Army veteran, having served in World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beatrice H. Cooper Stimson; two sons; three sisters; and one brother.

Survivors include six daughters; one son; and one brother.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 700 Horizon Circle Suite 201, Chalfont, Pa. 18914.

Gladys Humphries Hendrix
Services for Gladys Humphries Hendrix, 80, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2002 at St. John’s Evangelical Protestant Church, the Revs. Bob Kurtz and Chris Hester officiating, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hendrix died Friday, April 5 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born in Alabama to W.E. “Bud” and Lona Gray Humphries. She was a nurse.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include two sons, Bill Adrian (Geraldine) Hendrix Jr. and Jerry Frank (Donna) Hendrix; a sister, Ruby Brown; four grandchildren, Willy Hendrix, Laurel Hendrix, Sara McClendon and Hank Hendrix; and three great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Evangelical Protestant Church in Cullman.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Virginia Norton Kress

Services for Virginia Norton Kress, 76, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, the Rev. Jackie Camp officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kress died Thursday, April 4 at her residence. She was born Jan. 28, 1926 in Virginia to William Newt and Ida Treadaway Wilhite. She was a member of The Pioneers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, J.W. Norton and Fritz Kress; and a sister, Mildred Marie Clayton.

Survivors include a daughter, Wanda (Ken) Payne of Grayson, Ga.; a sister, Dean Goodlett of Cullman; four grandchildren, Kenny (Teresa) Payne, Virginia (Jack) Little, Barbara Schaper and Louis (Kim) Payne; eight great-grandchildren, Jana Payne, Sarah-Anne Payne, Bo Payne, Jay Little, Blake Schaper, Curtis Schaper, Marcus Schaper and Victoria Payne.

Visitation was Friday.

Wyatt Claiborne Jones

Graveside services for Wyatt Claiborne Jones, 82, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2002 at Cullman City Cemetery, the Rev. Phillip Young officiating.

Klein Funeral Home of Houston, Texas is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jones died Saturday, March 3 in Houston of Alzheimer’s disease. He was born May 4, 1919 in Cullman to William Claiborne and Rebecca Jones. He attended Cullman public schools and was a graduate of St. Bernard College in Cullman, Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham and Vanderbilt University Graduate School of Divinity. Early in his professional career he was employed by the Methodist Publishing House in Nashville in the editorial division as associate editor of youth publications. He later entered New York University where he completed his studies and earned a Ph.D. in sociology. He retired from a professorship in the sociology department of Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass. and founded the Wyatt Jones Dissertation Endowment Fund at Brandeis.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include a sister, Melba Ruth Williams of Athens, Ga.; and a brother, Wayman Morris Jones of Houston, Texas.

Memorials may be made to Brandeis University’s Wyatt Jones Dissertation Endowment Fund.

Joseph Robert Jones

Memorial services for Joseph Robert Jones, 72, of Cullman will be Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Father Kevin McGrath officiating.

Johns-Ridout’s Funeral Home of Birmingham is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jones died Wednesday, April 3.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine “Lori” Jones of Cullman; two sons, Frank Jones of Houston, Texas and Mark Jones of Standish, Maine; two daughters, Deborah Chase of Mattapoisett, Mass. and Ruth Roe of Big Pine Key, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth Henson of Kansas City, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Cullman Regional Medical Center Foundation.

John Hugh Easterwood
Visitation for John Hugh Easterwood, 83, of Cullman will be from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, with burial to take place in Lansing, Mich. at a later date.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of visitation.

Mr. Easterwood died Sunday, April 7 at his residence. He was born June 16, 1918. He was retired from the Board of Water and Light in Lansing, Mich. and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Irene Easterwood; two daughters, Lenora Jean Easterwood and Julie Easterwood Cupp.

Survivors include three daughters, Wanda Bottger of Kokomo, Ind., Shirley Bunnell of Lansing, Mich. and Linda Westwood of Grand Ledge, Mich; three sons-in-law, David Bunnell, Jim Westwood and John Bottger; nine grandchildren, Scott (Monica) Bunnell, Lisa (Chris) Reed, Andy (Rhonda) Bunnell, Debra (Randall) Willard, Jim Westwood II, Tony Easterwood, Heather Bottger, Terry and Austin Cupp; six great-grandchildren, Cody Scoggins, Cayden and Megan Bunnell, Zacariah and Caycie Willard, and Kayla Valles; and three sisters, Ruth Liepert of Cullman, Kate Spann of Pontiac, Mich. and Lillian Easterwood of Lansing, Mich.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of Cullman County, 402 Fourth Ave. NE, Cullman, Ala. or the American Cancer Society.

Roy Timothy Clements

Services for Roy Timothy Clements, 38, of Bremen will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at Antioch Baptist Church in Bremen, Phillip Starnes officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Clements died Saturday, April 6 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 28, 1963 in Alabama to Don’L and Goldie Robbins Clements. He was a parts manager at Anderson Boats.

Survivors include his parents; his wife, Lisa Clements; a daughter, Kimberly Renee Clements; three brothers, Robert Jackson, Donald Clements and Charlie Clements.

Visitation was Monday.

Ronald Wade Holmes

Services for Ronald Wade Holmes, 48, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, Paul Monk officiating, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Holmes died Saturday, April 6 at Carraway Methodist Hospital. He was born Feb. 8, 1954. He was a computer engineer.

He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas M. Holmes.

Survivors include his wife, Carrlon Rowe Holmes; two sons, Camden D. Holmes and Caleb D. Holmes, both of Cullman; a daughter, Courtney D. Holmes of Cullman; his mother, Melba Sizemore Holmes of Cullman; a brother, Sherwin Holmes of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Fred Sheppard of Valhermosa; and a sister, Rhonda Cornell of West Palm Beach, Fla.

Pallbearers will be Randall Rowe, Fred Sheppard, Jordan Cornell, David McLeroy, Eddie Corbitt, Mark Campbell, John Burnham, and John Farr.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today.

Verlie Coy James

Services for Verlie Coy James, 86, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at East Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Roger James officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James died Monday, April 8 at Cullman Health Care. He was born July 22, 1915 in Cullman County to Malou and Cassie Woods James. He was a grocery truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Clara James.

Survivors include a son, Gary James of Cullman; a daughter, Linda Earnest of Cullman; two brothers, Troy James of Cullman and Woodrow James of Georgia; and two grandchildren, Ashley Earnest and Greg Earnest, both of Cullman.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Melba H. Hamrick

Services for Melba H. Hamrick, 76, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, Dr. David McGowan and the Rev. Marvin Bryan officiating, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hamrick died Monday, April 8 at her residence. She was born in Cullman County on Nov. 16, 1925 to Charles and Pearl Jones Hamilton. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her daughter, Barbara Chapman Blalock.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmie (Clovis) Hamrick and John (Diane) Hamrick, both of Hanceville; six sisters, Lola Bradford of Florence, Evelyn Burrow and Edna Edge, both of Cullman, Addie Pitts of Hanceville, Lillie Roberson of Decatur, and Jo Weeks of Chester, S.C.; three grandchildren, Bonnie Brannan of Hanceville, Deanna Chapman of Nashville, Tenn. and Jonathan Hamrick of Goose Creek, S.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Mallory Brannan and Jason Hamrick.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Gerdys N. Bennefield

Services for Gerdys N. Bennefield, 90, of Arab were Monday, April 8, 2002 at Gober Funeral Chapel, Drennon Allredge and Marty Bearden officiating, with burial in Arab Memorial Cemetery.

Gober Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bennefield died Saturday, April 6 at her residence. She was born Jan. 15, 1912 in Cullman County to James Thomas and Beulah Preston Noles. She was a homemaker and a member of New Harmony Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include two sons, Manuel Benefield of Arab and Dwight Benefield of Russellville; a brother, Calvin Noles of Arab; a daughter-in-law, Maxine Benefield of Arab; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Vester Benefield, Dennis Chambers, Welton Kelsoe, Mickey Noles, Ronnie Noles, Harold Vaughn, Larry Vaughn, and Phillip Vaughn.

Visitation was Sunday.
