Graveside services for Sudie Nadine Winters, 78, of Hartselle will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at Simco Baptist Cemetery, the Rev. Jimmy Baker officiating.

Ms. Winters died Monday, April 8 at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born in Walker County on March 12, 1924 to Jonathan D. and Gertrude Butler Winters. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hartselle and worked for AT&T phone company for 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include two sisters, Martha Hamilton of Attalla and Rose Drake of Simco.
No visitation is planned.
Verlie Coy James
Services for Verlie Coy James, 86, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at East Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Roger James officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.

Mr. James died Monday, April 8 at Cullman Health Care. He was born July 22, 1915 in Cullman County to Malou and Cassie Woods James. He worked for Ratliff’s Grocery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Clara James.
Survivors include a son, Gary James of Cullman; a daughter, Linda (Micheal) Earnest of Cullman; two brothers, Troy James of Cullman and Woodrow James of Georgia; and two grandchildren, Ashley Earnest and Greg Earnest, both of Cullman.
Visitation was Tuesday.
Mabel S. Gardner
Services for Mabel S. Gardner, 83, of Arley will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Larry Brown officiating, with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Gardner died Tuesday, April 9 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born April 15, 1918 in Cullman to Joe and Artila Federer Sterling. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Gardner, Roy Gardner, Barry Gardner and Charles Lee Gardner all of Cullman; a daughter, Sharon Fay Brock of Cullman; a sister, “Ty” Rose Lee Drinkard of Cullman; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
William Athel Harper
Services for William Athel Harper, 87, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, the Rev. Vernon Willis officiating, with burial in Welti Cemetery.

Mr. Harper died Monday, April 8 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born in Cullman County on June 4, 1914 to William E. and Frances Lugena “Gena” Burnham Harper. He was a machine operator for Goodyear. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter, Marjorie Ann Harper.
Survivors include his wife, Golda Pearl Buchanan Harper of Cullman; a son, William A. (Norma) Harper of Tuscaloosa; two sisters, Ruth Williamson of Cullman and Margaret Pearlena Gay of Vinemont; and a grandchild, Grace Marjorie Harper of Tuscaloosa.
Visitation was Tuesday.
Robert Donald Durand
Services for Robert Donald Durand, 70, of Somerville will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at Peck Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Harlon Hood officiating, with burial in Buringtree Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Durand died Monday, April 8 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Nov. 26, 1931 in Denver, Colo. to Russell Samuel and Lottie Belle Walker Durand. He was retired after 30 years of active and reserve service in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, was a mason and member of the Nile Temple of Mountlake Terrace, Wash., and the owner and operator of Bob’s Lawn and Landscape Maintenance Company. He was also a member of Shiloh Baptist Church of Somerville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Bailey Durand of Somerville; two daughters, Shelia Durand Reeves of Somerville and Shari Robin Durand of Alexandria, Va.; his son-in-law, Jerry B. Reeves of Somerville; a brother, Russell Eugene Durand of Hartselle; and two grandchildren, Tyler and Anna Reeves.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Shiloh Baptist Church building fund, 3941 Highway 36 East, Somerville, Ala. 35670.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Graveside services for James Hoyt Dunkin, 58, of Arlington, Texas, formerly of Cullman, will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2002 at Vinemont Baptist Cemetery, Wayne Chappell officiating.

Mr. Dunkin died Saturday, April 6 in Texas. He was born Dec. 27, 1943 to Jessie and Kathleen Dunkin Nesmith. He worked at Goodwill Industries.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include an uncle, Jimmy Nesmith; and an aunt, Myron N. Chappell.
Visitation will be at 2:30 p.m. today.
Dewey Monroe Steele Jr.
Services for Dewey Monroe Steele Jr., 67, of Simpsonville, S.C., formerly of Cullman, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2002 at The Mackey Mortuary, the Rev. Lawrence Keever officiating, with burial in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Steele died Wednesday, April 10. He was born in Cullman to Dewey and Lola Hudson Steele Sr. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mauldin and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Rackley Steele; a daughter, Sherri Denise Steele of Greenville; a son, Thane Shearl Steele of Simpsonville; a sister, Louise Steele Lister of Greenville; one brother, Herbert Douglas Steele of Cullman; and two granddaughters, Autumn Teresa and Lacey Lynn Steele.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Mr. Thomason died Friday, April 12, at his residence. He was born in Cullman on April 16, 1910. He was a farmer and a bricklayer.
Survivors include four sons, Ethredge (Betty) Thomason, Charles R. (Kathy) Thomason, Milton (Shelia) Thomason all of Cullman, Othel (Susan) Thomason of Hartselle; four daughters, Betty (Larry) Strickland, Gwendolyn Rodgers both of Cullman, Barbara (Larry) Phillips of Hartselle, Lynette (Ronald) Parrish of Horton; brother, Arthur (Ruth) Thomason of Eva; sister, Jessie Moore of Hanceville; 25 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She died Friday, April 12 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 11, 1922 in Alabama to Hane and Rose Hasenbein Windsor. She was a secretary for a trucking company.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Hane Windsor Jr. and Bibb Windsor.
Survivors include a sister, Charlotte Newman; and two brothers, William J. Windsor and Robert Windsor.

Mrs. Goodwin died Thursday, April 11 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born July 4, 1957 in Aiken, S.C. to Bob and Eloise Jones Burnham. She was a licensed practical nurse.
Survivors include her mother, a son, Ronald Lansing “Lanse” Goodwin of Cullman; two daughters, Diane Rawson at Ft. Walton, Fla. and Kasey Lauren Goodwin of Cullman; three sisters, Sandra (Verlon) Story of Cullman; Robin (Todd) Martin of Arab and Kim (Blake) Ramey of Hartselle; her mother-in-law, Ruby Frey of Cullman; three grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews.
