Services for James A. “Shorty” Jackson, 79, of Garden City will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2002 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Ferrell and Vernon Alvis officiating, with burial in Garden City Cemetery.

Mr. Jackson died Saturday, April 27. He was born in Jackson, Tenn. on May 12, 1922 to A.A. and Dollie Grower Jackson. He was a plant developer.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Dessie A. Jackson of Garden City; three grandchildren, Beth Page, Jamie Page both of Cullman, Mitchell Page of Athens; nephew, Greg Roper of Hanceville; and three nieces, Lucy Miller, Terry Sue Miller both of Michigan, Frances Roper of Nashville, Tenn.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
Robert Cleophus Denson
Services for Robert Cleophus Denson, 71, of Addison will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2002 at Nichols Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Nesmith Cemetery.

Mr. Denson died Friday, April 26 at V.A. Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Martha J. Denson; three sons, Tilton Wayne Denson of Tennessee, Milton Robert Denson of Virginia, Wilton Ramsey Denson of Georgia; four grandchildren, Darryl Wayne, Terry Ray, Danielle and David Denson; and two sisters, Deliah Posey of Mobile, Maylene Lindley of Birmingham.
William Guy Holladay
Services for William Guy Holladay, 94, of Sanford, Fla., formerly of Alabama, will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2002 at Peck Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Steve Schantz and Mack Carter officiating, with burial in Friendship Cemetery south of Danville.

Mr. Holladay died Friday, April 26 at his residence. He was born in Lawrence County on Sept. 26, 1907 to Wyatt Richmond and Lavinia Acenath Hallman Holladay. He was a a farmer and worked for the U.S. Forestry Service in Bankhead Forest. He was member of the World Wide Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nellie Ann Carter; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Glenn Holladay of Helena, Wyatt Holladay of Dallas, Ga., Jimmy Holladay of Cullman; two daughters, Sandra Haworth of Sanford, Fla., Sharon Walden of Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Royal Holladay of Danville; three sisters, Levene Hogan of Falkville, Frances Quattlebaum, Gertrude Crawford both of Logan; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; five step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
Mozell C. Copeland
Services for Mozell C. Copeland, 82, of Baileyton were Monday, April 29, 2002 at Mt. Vernon Primitive Baptist Church, Elder Guy Hunt, Owen Hunt, William Copeland and Victor Quick officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Copeland died Saturday, April 27 at Woodland Health Care Center. She was born in Alabama on Nov. 29, 1919 to William Martin and Emma Hendricks Cook. She was a retired sales clerk.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Henry P. Copeland, a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a son, James Martin (Johnnie Kathryn) Copeland of Cape Fair, Mo.; two sisters, Vivian Estes of Trussville and Verlie Rutledge of Casa Grande, Ariz.; two grandchildren, James Timothy Copeland of Moulton and Stephanie Nelson of Muscle Shoals; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Verna Mae Nickens
Services for Verna Mae Nickens, 77, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, with burial in Valley Springs Cemetery.

Mrs. Nickens died Sunday, April 28 at Woodland Village Health Care Center. She was born July 12, 1924 in Cullman to Joe and Kindness Kuykendall Hines. She was a seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Johnathon Cary Mead; three brothers, Vernerd, Henry and Jessie Hines; and one sister, Vinolla Waters.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Sue (Johnny Jr.) Mead of Goldridge and Brenda Kaye (Barry) Yarbrough of Warrior; two brothers, Frank Hines and Joe Hinds of Cullman; five grandchildren, Jennifer Leigh Mead and Jordan Ashleigh Mead of Cullman, Halie Yarbrough of Tuscaloosa, Brandie Waugh and Brad Waugh of Savannah, Ga.; one great-grandchild, Samantha Caroline Waugh of Savannah, Ga.; 12 nieces; and 14 great-nieces and -nephews.

Delma H. Gross
Services for Delma H. Gross, 92, of Hoover will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, Joe Slane officiating, with burial in East Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Gross died Sunday, April 28 at Galleria Woods Retirement Community. She was born May 5, 1909 to Charley and Della Gallman Hesterly. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include two sons, John Gross of Vinemont and Jack Gross of Killen; two daughters, Lynn Gross Singleton of Hoover and June Gross Davidson of Russellville; a sister, Lily Mae Smith of Vinemont; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dan Singleton, Bob Singleton, Mark Gross, Brian Davidson, Marshall Davidson and Brad Ford.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Rodger Dale Jones
Rodger Dale Jones, 58, of Vinemont died Tuesday, April 30 at Baptist Medical Center in Princeton. He was born Feb. 24, 1944 in Talladega County to Jesse Lumas and Lela Mae Atkinson Jones.

Mr. Jones was a meat cutter for Lucky’s Grocery Stores in California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Rachel Jones; six brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Jeanne Jones; a son, Rodger Dale Jr. (Lee) Jones; two daughters, Belinda Kay (Ron) Salandro and Geraldine Marie Barnett; two sisters, Shirley (Vernon) Thomason and Sue Jones; nine grandchildren, Vanessa Jones, Doug Aleman, Jesse Jones, Randy Jones, Ty Jones, James Jones, Dustin Barnett, Kamie Jones, Ricky Barnett; and a great-grandchild, Gavin Montgomery.
Visitation will be form 1 to 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
James T. Dunson
Services for James T. Dunson, 82, of Tallahassee, Fla. will be announced at a later date.

Mr. Dunson died Wednesday, April 24 in Tallahassee. He was a native of Bear Creek. He was a retired independent automobile dealer. He was also the founder of the Credit Bureau of Cullman. He was a highly decorated Army veteran of World War II and Korea.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Corine V. Dunson of Tallahassee; a son, Kenneth V. Dunson of Tallahassee; two sisters, Odell Daughtry of Warrior and Jewell Price of Mississippi; and two grandchildren, Dea Morris Dunson of Tallahassee and Dane Morris Dunson of Hanover, N.H.

Charles S. Collier

Mr. Collier died Wednesday, May 1 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born Jan. 11, 1932 to Lawton and Lois Brooks Collier. He ran Collier Aviation for 17 years and was a hardware salesman at Lowe’s for seven years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willodean Collier; one sister, Bertha Middleton; a sister-in-law, Ruby Jean Collier; and his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Esther Smith Collier of Good Hope; a son, Scott Smith of Logan; two daughters, Kay (Charles) Mann of Cullman and Nicole (Tim) Lockhart of Logan; three brothers, Ralph Collier and Robert (Betty) Collier of Cullman and Fred (Melba) Collier of Vinemont; three sisters, Willie Faye (Jake) Lynch of Hanceville, Mary Sue (Leon) Freeman and Linda (Charles) Yearwood of Cullman; and four grandchildren, Melinda Mann, David Mann, Letitia Lockhart and Samuel Lockhart.

Woneda S. Lessere
Services for Woneda S. Lessere, 78, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2002 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Harold Hermetz officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Mrs. Lessere died Wednesday, May 1 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Dec. 21, 1923 to Carl and Ruth Schumann. She was an executive assistant to the president at Cullman Products. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for over 40 years, a member of Pilot Club, the Community Concert Association, St. Paul’s Sunshine Club and was their secretary for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Ruth Whitley.
Survivors include a son, Pete Lessere of Dallas, Texas and fiancee, Lynn Owrey; a sister, Melba Werner of Cullman; and a grandson, Chuck White of Vance.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cullman.
Visitation was Thursday.
Tony Burns

Mr. Burns died Tuesday, April 30 at his residence. He was born March 16, 1951. He was a clerk for South Florida Water Management.
He was preceded in death by his father, J.V. Burns.
Survivors include his mother, Zera Howard; his stepfather, Earl Howard; three stepbrothers, Robin Howard, Layne Howard and Mahlon Howard; and two sisters, Earlene Watts and Melanie Lambert.
