Joseph E. ‘Bill’ Easterwood

Services for Joseph E. “Bill” Easterwood, 88, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Roger Shockley and Adam Mann officiating, with burial in Flint Creek Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Easterwood died Monday, June 10 at his residence. He was born Nov. 20, 1913 in Cullman County to James and Mary Beatrice Carr Easterwood. He was a custodial engineer and a member of the U.S. Armed Forces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred Easterwood; and two grandchildren, Mark A. Mann and Toni L. Mann.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Connell of Hanceville, Edith Mann Rowland and Effie Looney, both of Cullman; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Jack P. Wood

Services for Jack P. Wood, 68, of Pinson, formerly of Addison, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2002 at Gardendale Chapel, the Revs. Edwin Williams and Bill Dollars officiating, with burial in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 5:30 to 8 p.m.today at the chapel.

Gardendale Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wood died Tuesday, June 11 at his daughter’s home following a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 28, 1934, the seventh child of Andrew J. Sr. and Lula Mae Wood. He married Joyce Johnson on Nov. 22, 1953. He was a member of Warrior Church of God and former owner of Vasco Auto Parts. He was a fan of southern gospel music.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include two daughters, Pam Wood (Brian) Tyler and Barbie Wood (Stephen R.) Arnold; a sister, Ruth Herreld; five grandchildren, Amy Thornton, Butch Brekle, Anna Brekle, Robin Parks and David Parks; and two great-grandchildren, Justin Hogan and Austin Thornton.

Memorials may be made to Warrior Church of God.

Betty Marie Brown Tankersley

Memorial services for Betty Marie Brown Tankersley, 72, of Lithia Springs, Ga. will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at West Point Baptist Church, with burial in Danville, Ill.

White Columns Funeral Chapels, Inc. of Lithia Springs, Ga. is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tankersley died Monday, June 10 in Douglasville, Ga. She was born Feb. 1, 1930 in Vermillion County, Ill. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, John P. Tankersley; a son, Judge R. Tankersley of Lithia Springs, Ga.; two daughters, Susan Lynn Tankersley and Sally Ann Tankersley, both of Lithia Springs, Ga.; a brother, Walter C.Brown Jr. of Tucson, Ariz.; and a sister, Mildred Morris of Hoopston, Ill.

Arnold Joseph Mages
Memorial services for Arnold Joseph Mages, 91, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2002 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Father Kevin McGrath officiating.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mages died Saturday, June 8 at Cullman Longterm Health Care Center. He was born Aug. 1, 1910 to Casper and Mary Graffenstatte Mages. He helped run the family business, Mages Brothers Feed, Seed and Grocery.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Casper Mages Jr., Father Mark Mages, Jack Mages; and four sisters, Johanna Kramer, Marguerite Mages, Sabina Mages and Bettye Mages.

Survivors include his wife, Marian Lincoln Mages; a son, Mark Mages; a stepson, Kelly Smith; a daughter, Reine Mages Farley; a stepdaughter, Janey Hauk; a sister, Mrs. Thurman Guthrie; three grandchildren, Jessica, Sara and Sam; a niece, Nancy Guthrie; and three nephews, Mark Guthrie, Eric Guthrie and Casper Kramer Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Catholic Church Family Life Center.

A rosary will be given at 7:30 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Church.

Kenneth Terry ‘K.T.’ Bates

Services for Kenneth Terry “K.T.” Bates, 55, of Decatur, formerly of Cullman, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, Delbert Freeman officiating, with burial in Shedd Cemetery in Trimble.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bates died Tuesday, June 11 in Decatur. He was born Feb. 21, 1947 to Lem and Mamie Trimble Bates. He was a boiler house control room operator at Solutia for 37 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Grady, Billy and Henry Bates; a sister, Myrtle Hendrix; and a sister-in-law, Billie Mae Bates.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Lee McDougal Bates; two sons, Terry A. (Melody) Bates and Jamin D. Bates, both of Cullman; a daughter, Lori (Mack) Bishop of Fort Fairfield, Maine; four brothers, Jack (Joyce) Bates of Albertville, Thad Bates and Robert (Janice) Bates, both of Cullman and Frank (Vivian) Bates of Allen, Texas; two sisters, Viva Johnson and Dorothy (Sherrel) Hancock, both of Cullman; four grandchildren, Alyssa and Zachary Bishop of Fort Fairfield, Maine and Alyssa and Michael Bates of Cullman; and his mother-in-law, Shirley Wood of Nashua, N.H.

Pallbearers will be Jack Bates, Frank Bates, Robert Bates, Mike Hancock, Rodney Early, and Jimmy Rainey.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Friday.

Nelladeen K. Shelton

Services for Nelladeen K. Shelton, 80, of Hanceville will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2002 at Shelton Grove Baptist Church, the Revs. Phillips and Randy Moon officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shelton died Tuesday, June 11 at her residence. She was born May 24, 1922 to James and Sadie Grubbs Pitts. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Maythel Grund; her brother, Edward Pitts; and her husband, Talvin Shelton.

Survivors include a son, Okley (Merle) Shelton; two daughters, Thersie (Bobby) Bolzle and Enell (Charles) Baker; two brothers, Mansel (Ivalee) Pitts and Harold Pitts; four sisters, Edith Barrington, Lucille Alexander, Clara Freeman and Myrtle Hall; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Hazel Schneider Kessler

Services for Hazel Schneider Kessler, 96, of Cullman, formerly of Birmingham, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2002 at St. John’s Evangelical Protestant Church, the Rev. Robert Kurtz officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Tuesday, June 11 at Woodland Village Health Care. She was born June 25, 1905 to Peter H. and Louise Wingert Schneider. She was a bookkeeper.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a niece, Allene Frey Hutto; two nieces, Patsy Bahr Giles and Diana Bahr (David) Alldredge; a great-great-niece, Catlin Alldredge; and two great-great-nephews, Corey Stewart and Adam Bahr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. John’s Mission Fund in care of St. John’s Church, P.O. Box 924, Cullman 35055.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Donald Ray Wood

Services for Donald Ray Wood, 68, of Addison will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2002 at Friendship Baptist Church, the Rev. Glenn M. Wood officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wood died Tuesday, June 11 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Angeline Louise Wood.

Survivors include a sister, Doris Virginia Hightower; and a brother, Glenn M. Wood, both of the Upshaw Community.

Visitation was Wednesday.

Maythel Angeline Grund

Services for Maythel Angeline Grund, 77, of Hapeville, Ga., formerly of Hanceville, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2002 at St. Jude’s By The Sea in Gulf Shores, with burial in Pine Rest Memorial Park.

Baldwin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Grund died Tuesday.

Survivors include a son, James L. “Larry” Grund of Hapeville, Ga.; three daughters, Linda King of Foley, Denise Henderson of Birmingham, Patricia Roper of Montevallo; two brothers, Harold Gene Pitts and Mancel Pitts; four sisters, Clara Freeman, Edith Barrington, Myrtle Rich, Lucille Alexander; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Robert ‘Bob’ Burns Norwood

Services for Robert “Bob” Burns Norwood, 82, of Perry, Ga. were Saturday, June 8, 2002 at McCullough Funeral Chapel of Warner Robbins, Ga.

Mr. Norwood died Thursday, June 6 at his residence. He was born in Birmingham and was raised in Atlanta. He lived in Montezuma, Ga. for 40 years.He was a graduate of Georgia Tech. and a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army. He retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base where he had been a mechanical engineer. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Masons, and had served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was a Methodist.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Wood Norwood, from Sandersville; his parents, William Henry and Genevieve Norwood Kern; and his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. William Henry Norwood, all of whom were from Perry, Ga.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Leaptrot Norwood of Perry; a son, Edwin Pierce Norwood of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Lisa W. Norwood (Dr. Robert Wood) of Cullman; three stepchildren, Steve Reagan of Atlanta; Neal Reagan of Perry; Mitzi M. Reagan Fletcher of Tifton; a half-brother, Jack Kem of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Bradley, Elizabeth and Woody Nesbitt, of Cullman, Alexis Galford Norwood of Columbus, Ohio; two step-grandchildren, William Henson Reagan of Perry; Thomas Allen Fletcher of Tifton; and a Godchild, Chelsea Nichole Holtsclaw.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Houston County, 2066 Watson Blvd., Warner Robins, Ga. 31093, or the Neurology Department, Foundation of Wesley Woods, 1817 Clifton Road, Atlanta 30329.

Visitation was June 7.

Nelladeen K. Shelton
Services for Nelladeen K. Shelton, 80, of Hanceville will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2002 at Shelton Grove Baptist Church, the Revs. Phillips and Randy Moon officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
