Hazel Schneider Kessler

Services for Hazel Schneider Kessler, 96, of Cullman, formerly of Birmingham, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2002 at St. John’s Evangelical Protestant Church, the Rev. Robert Kurtz officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Tuesday, June 11 at Woodland Village Health Care. She was born June 25, 1905 to Peter H. and Louise Wingert Schneider. She was a bookkeeper.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a niece, Allene Frey Hutto; two nieces, Patsy Bahr Giles and Diana Bahr (David) Alldredge; a great-great-niece, Catlin Alldredge; and two great-great-nephews, Corey Stewart and Adam Bahr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. John’s Mission Fund in care of St. John’s Church, P.O. Box 924, Cullman 35055.

Visitation was Thursday.

Rissie O. Osborne

Services for Rissie O. Osborne, 93, of Double Springs will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2002 at Sardis Baptist Church No. 2, William McClellan officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Osborne died Wednesday, June 12 at her residence. She was born May 16, 1909 in Lawrence County to Jack and Pearl Little Hill. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emmitt Osborne; and her daughter, Pauline Osborne Heflin.

Survivors include two sons, Buddy (Marlene) Osborne of Cullman and Jerry (Elizabeth) Osborne of Addison; four daughters, Joyce (Bobby) Chandler of Houston, Doris (Kenneth) Ponder and Brenda (Larry) Howse, both of Addison, and Diane (Lance) Horsley of Double Springs; a half-brother, Robert Lee Hill; a sister, Alma Asherbranner; a half-sister, Wilma Royer; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Thursday.

John Talmadge Bright

Services for John Talmadge Bright, 79, of Birmingham will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2002 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Millard Mann officiating, with burial in Edison Chapel Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bright died Thursday, June 13 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Tuscaloosa. He was born Aug. 2, 1922 in Cullman to John Benjamin and Kroland Christine Elrod Bright. He was a trouble shooter for Birmingham Sash and Door and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul Bright and Robert Bright; and a sister, Ilabelle Fulgham.

Survivors include his wife, Alean Estes Bright of Birmingham; a son, Johnny Bright of Baileyton; a stepdaughter, Dortha Nail of Birmingham; two brothers, W.C. Bright and Ira Bright, both of Baileyton; a sister, Lethal Nail of Holly Pond; and four grandchildren, Tisha Scott and Tanya Bright, both of Baileyton, Lisa Halstead of Birmingham, and Terri Powell of Columbiana.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Mattie Lou Sloan

Services for Mattie Lou Sloan, 84, of Hanceville will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2002 at Hanceville Chapel, the Rev. J.B. Snyder officiating, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sloan died Thursday, June 13 at her residence. She was born Oct. 13, 1917 to J.F. and Hattie Belle Keller. She was a beautician.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include three sons, Charles Sloan of Hueytown, James A. Sloan of Fairhope, Raymond Wayne Sloan of Hanceville; two sisters, Helen Boatright of Falkville and Mabel Smith of Hanceville; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

James Sebern Haynie

Graveside services for James Sebern Haynie, 74, of Danville will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2002 at Union Hill Cemetery near Eva, the Rev. Jeff Bennett officiating.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Haynie died Thursday, June 13 at his residence. He was born in Morgan County to Isaiah Sanford and Birtha Ray Nix Haynie. He was a custodian at Plano Independent School District.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include two sons, James Dale Haynie of Phoenix, Ariz. and James Douglas Haynie of Danville; three daughters, Judith Ann Haynie of Phoenix, Ariz., Teresa Ann Albarans of Philadelphia, Pa., Alicia Anne Haynie of West Point; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Frank Holland Bentley Jr.

Services for Frank Holland Bentley Jr., 61, of Athens will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2002 at Limestone Chapel, the Rev. Charles Dixon officiating, with burial in Roselawn Cemetery.

Limestone Chapel Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bentley died Tuesday, June 11 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born May 19, 1941 in Hartselle. He retired from Bruderer Inc. in Huntsville after 23 years.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Bentley of Athens; three sons, Bruce Bentley of Cullman, Bobby Bentley of Steele and Brian Bentley of Athens; and a sister, Fay Weil of Madison.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Edwards, Wayne Brown, Lou Heckaman, Jimmy Battles, Chuck Weatherman, and Steve Jones.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Heart Fund and Diabetes Association.

Visitation was Thursday.

Chester L. Edwards
Services for Chester L. Edwards, 74, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, Donald Lee Abbott officiating, with burial in New Prospect Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Edwards died Friday, June 14 at his residence. He was born Sept. 1, 1927 to Jerry D. and Freda Edwards. He was in retail sales.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Andrew J. Edwards, James Allen “Buddy” Edwards and Alton Edwards.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Williams Edwards; his mother-in-law, Christine Edwards; a brother, Leon Edwards; two sisters, Frances Hinkle and Wynelle Dollar; eight nieces; and five nephews.

Pallbearers will be nephews Steve, Mike, Rusty, David, Charles, Jim, Paul, Brian and Randy.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today.

Velma Jordan

Services for Velma Jordan, 88, of Cullman will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, Elder David Guttery officiating, with burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jordan died Friday, June 14 at Estes Nursing Facility in Birmingham. She was born Sept. 11, 1913 to Alton and Madie Hudson Entrekin. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty (Winford) Yarbrough of Birmingham; and a sister, Opha Thornton of Cullman.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Griffin Moore

Services for Griffin Moore, 75, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2002 at Moss Service Chapel, John Freeman officiating, with burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Moore died Wednesday, June 12 at Woodland Village Health Care. He was born July 17, 1926. He was a supervisor with Royster Fertilizer Company.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Docia Glover Moore.

Survivors include two sons, Michael (Glenda) Moore and and Mark Moore; a daughter, Donna (Delbert) Pittman; four grandchildren, Crissy Bush, Stephanie Maner, Miranda Moore and Monica Moore; and a great-grandchild, Jordan Maner.

Visitation was Friday.

Todd Allen Barnett

Services for Todd Allen Barnett, 21, of Cullman will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2002 at Duck River Baptist Church, Ronnie Jetton and Chuck Hamby officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Barnett died Thursday, June 13 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Sept. 30, 1980 in Morgan County to Derrell Lee “Bobo” and Janice Harris Barnett. He was an air conditioner technician for Performance Air.

Survivors include his parents; a brother, Jeremy (Chasity) Barnett of Cullman; and two nieces, Cheyanne Barnett and Savanah Barnett.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mattie Lou (Keller) Sloan

Services for Mattie Lou {Keller) Sloan, 84, of Hanceville will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2002 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Snyder officiating, with burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sloan died Thursday, June 13 at her residence. She was born October 13, 1917 to John Fredrick and Hattie Belle Caudell Keller. She was a mother and homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Freddie Blaine Sloan; and her husband of 64 years, Raymond Alfred Sloan.

Survivors include sons raymond Wayne (Shirley) Sloan of Hanceville, James Alfred (Betty) Sloan of Fairhope, Charles Keller (Genice) Sloan of Hueytown; sisters, Helen R. Keller Boatright and Mabel L. keller Smith; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
