Mrs. Gertrude Gentry Carnell, 94, of Slocomb, died early Thursday morning, March 14, 2002 at the home of her
daughter.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P M. Sunday, March 17, 2002, from the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark
with the Reverend A1 Sonianstine officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral
Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be in the funeral home parlors from 4:00 P. M. Saturday afternoon, March 16,
2002, with the family receiving friends from 4:00 PM. until 6:00 P M.
Mrs. Carnell was a native of, Arkansas, having lived in Delta, Missouri where she and her husband owned and operated Carnell's Cafe for 11 years until their retirement. They then moved to Hudson, Florida and later to Ozark in 1974. She attended Logan Road Baptist Church.
Mrs. Carnell was preceded. in death by her husband, John Herman Carnell, a daughter, Erma Louise Proffer, and twins Ted and Fred Carnell.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Frankie Phillips, Malvern, Alabama, five sons and three daughters-in-law, Herman Jr. and Carol Carnell, Desota, Missouri, James Carnell, Merritt Island, Florida, Joe Carnell, Ozark, Robert and Barbara Carnell, Pinckard, Dennis and Betty Carnell, Malvern, one sister, Mary Bryant, Michigan, one brother, Tommy Leon .Gentry, Michigan. Sixteen grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren also survive.
Mr. William Franklin "Bill" Childers, 61, of Vernon, formerly of Skipperville, died Tuesday morning March 12, 2002, in a Dothan hospital following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, March 14 2002, from Magnolia United Methodist Church with the Reverend Gaines A. Owens and the Reverend Ken Spivey officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be in the funeral home parlors from 6~:00 P. M. Wednesday evening, March 13, 2002, until one hour prior to service time when it will be in the Church. The family will receive friends in the funeral home parlors from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Mr. Childers was a graduate of Blue Springs High School and attended Auburn University. While living in Dinwiddie,Virginia he was a member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church where he served on the Official Board and was a soloist in the Church Choir. Mr. Childers retired from Civil Service, Department of the Army. He was a member vf the Data Processing Management Association and the American Daylily Society. Mr. Childers was a plant breeder and a nurseryman after retiring to Florida.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Amarylis and Alan Benefield, Ozark, two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Rene' Childers, Skipperville, Ashley and Cheryl Childers, Skipperville, four grandchildren, three sisters, Trucilla Robertson, Opelika, Lorraine Stewart, Nashville, Tennessee, and Kaye McHone, Nashville, Tennessee, and several nieces and nephews.
Michael B. Wray, our Brother in Christ, left this world to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, March 11, 2002. He was 42-years-old and his loss will be felt deeply by all who knew him.
Visitations for family and friends will be 5-7 p.m. today, March 14, 2002, at McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home, 1405 John Sims Parkway, Niceville, Fla. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles W. Wray, Stoneville, N.C. and his niece, Tabbatha, also of Stoneville.,
He leaves behind his loving and dearly devoted wife of 16 years, Kathi Wray; and his precious daughter, Brittani Wray. He also leaves his loving mother, Retha Kravec and stepfather, Mike Kravec, Hinesville, Ga.; his step-mother, Lena Wray, Stoneville, N.C.; two brothers, Chuck Wray, Montgomery, and Chase Wray and his wife, Neva, Midland City; four sisters Ann Duckett and her husband, Greg, Webb, Sylvia Craig, Stoneville, N.C., Becky Wray Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Hope Lewis and her husband James, Stoneville, N.C., and many precious nieces and nephews who loved him
dearly.
Mike truly enjoyed owning and operating his Pest Control Business and cared deeply for each and everyone of his customers. His most prized possessions were his daughter Brittani and his devoted dog "Zach." He was very close to his
brother, Chase, and cherished all of his childhood memories with him and loved to go fishing to and reminiscing on the water. Mike was never one to express his feelings openly, but he truly loved and cherished all of his family and friends.
Mrs. Leola (Ola) Howard, 96, of Hartford St., Newton, died Monday morning, March 11, 2002 in Extendicare, Dothan.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with Rev Robert Smith and Rev Talmadge Butler officiating. Burial will be in Newton City Cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral

She was preceded in death by brothers, Wash, Elmore, Bud Elmore, Charlie Elinore and Ben Elinore and by Toby Elmore and Kay Elmore, two sons-in-law; Ed Messick and Tommy Fulford, one great-grandson; Billy Gene Glover.

Mrs. Kara Knight Evans, 36, of Route 2, Ariton, died of injuries received in an automobile accident Monday morning March 11, 2002, in Barbour, County.
The funeral will be ll a.m. Wednesday at Spring Hill Baptist Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be at the funeral home parlors 6 p.m. today.
Mrs. Evans was a native of Blue Springs, having lived in Opelika. She graduated from Opelika High School. She
received her licensed practical nurse's degree from Sparks Technical School in Eufaula and her registered nursing degree from Wallace Community College. She worked with the Dale Medical Center in Ozark and was currently employed with the E-911office in Ozark and Dale County. She was a member of the Spring Hill Baptist Church.
Her husband survives her, Mike Evans, Ariton; two daughters, Kimberly and Amanda Evans, Ariton; her mother and
father, Buddy and Kay Knight, Blue Springs; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Kathryn Easterling, Clio; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Anna Laura Bowdoin, Blue Springs; her sister, Lauralee Knight, Blue Springs; two brothers and their wives, Jimmy and Rhonda Knight, Ozark, Allan and Amanda Knight, Clio; her father and mother-in-law, Gerald and
Hazel Evans.
Mr. Billy Hugh Riley 71, of Echo, died Saturday morning, March 9, 2002 at Dale Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2002 at Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev Phil Craddock, the Rev Sam Williams and the Rev. Earl Ledbetter officiating. Burial will follow in Echo United Methodist Church Cemetery, Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2002 at the funeral home. Mr. Riley's body will be placed in the church one hour prior to services on Monday.
Mr. Riley was a native of Dale County where he attended Echo United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 and retired from George C. Wallace Community College in 1994.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Lola Ward Riley and sister Jean Share.
Survivors include his wife: Mrs.Faye Payne Riley, Echo; three daughters and sons-in-law; Krista and William Scott, Midland City; Phyllis and Earl Ledbetter Union Springs; and Tammy and Will Plante, Echo; father, Lewie Riley, Echo; sister, Charlotte Grantham, Echo; brother Ray Riley, Echo; two grandsons, Andy Glover and Phillip Plante; two grand-daughters, Gina and Dana Ledbetter; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Marilyn Garner Thompson of Stuart Tarter Road, Ozark, Alabama went to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ, on Saturday afternoon, March 9, 2002, after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2002, from the Ozark Baptist Church with the Reverend Greg Aman officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord cemetery near Skipperville, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be at the funeral home parlors from 3 p.m. Monday, with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday evening.
Mrs. Thompson was born November 20, 1942, in Echo, Dale County Alabama. Marilyn was active in many charitable, civic and church organizations, serving as president of the Service League, Altrua Club, Dale County Cattlewomen's Association, and Women's Committee of the Dale County Farmers' Federation (ALFA). Marilyn was an active member of the choir and the hand bell ensemble of Ozark Baptist Church, Friends of the Library and Dale County Master Gardeners.
Her father William Tullie Gamer of Dothan, preceded Marilyn in death. She loved the Lord, her family and her fellow man.

Tiffany Denise Edwards, 17 of 104 Redd St., passed away at her residence on Friday, March 8, 2002.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Horace Fitchard officiating.
Tiffany was born July, 20, 1984 to the Mary Ann Edwards and the late Douglass (Bootie) Roberts.

Mrs. Zina Brewer, 83, Ozark, died Wednesday afternoon, March 6, 2002, in Dale Medical Center, Ozark.
Memorial graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Billy Gaither officiating. Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark will direct. Mrs. Brewer was preceded in death by her first husband Tillmon J. Stubbs, Ozark, and her second husband, John
Brewer, Birmingham; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.P. Carroll, Ozark; brother, Robert Carroll, Phenix City; daughter-in-law, Molly Stubbs.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda Stubbs and her husband, Bob Buntin, Ozark; one son, Tillman J. Stubbs Jr. and wife, Wendy, Ozark; two brothers and their wives, Joe and Rachael Carroll, Ozark, Paul and Jean Carroll, Phenix City; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Inez Hunter, 79, Ozark died Saturday morning, March 2, 2002, in the Ozark Nursing Facility.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist Church with Elder Gary L. Jones Sr. officiating.
Burial will be in St. Rose A.M.E. Church Cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be 11 a.m.-5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Hunter will be placed in the church one hour prior to services on Friday.
Mrs. Hunter was a native of Barbour County having lived most of her life in Ozark. She was a member of Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist Church for over 37 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Hunter.
Survivors include four daughters, Izell Robinson, Killeen, Texas, Mae Register, Dothan Mary Walker, Ozark, and Sylvanna Gbolahan, Mobile; one son, Robert Hunter, Montgomery; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
George Macklin Bowman, 74, of 4016 Highway 134, Midland City, died Saturday afternoon, March 2, 2002, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday March 5 2002, in the First Assembly of ' God Church of Midland City with the Rev. Bennie Corbin and the Rev. Ricky Martin officiating Burial will be in the Midland City Cemetery with Holman-Headland Mortuary directing. The body will be at the family residence until one hour prior to the services when it will be placed in the church. Mr. Bowman was a lifelong resident of Dale County, the son of the late Alfred Bowman and Lounette Hartzog Bowxhan. He lived most of his life in Midland City where he was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. Mr. Bowman was formerly employed by Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Dothan.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Covington and a brother, Morris Bowman.
Surviving are his wife, Nellie Marrell Bowman, Midland City; three daughters, JoAnn Jackson and her husband, Wayne Jackson, Kinston; Rebecca Clark, Midland City Mary Davis and her husband, Tommy Davis, Napier Field; three sons, Willie Bowman, Midland City, Bill M. Mr. Robert E. "Bob" Pechtel, 66, of Dogwood Circle, Ozark, died Saturday evening, March 2 2002, in a Dothan hospital after a long battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today March 4, 2002, in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. William
Hart and the Rev. Isom Hill officiating. Burial will be in Westview Memorial Cemetery with Holman Funeral Home
of Ozark directing. Visitation will be at the funeral home parlors until one hour prior to. service time when it will be in the church.
Mr. Pechtel was a United States Army Veteran, a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and Claybank Masonic Lodge 908. He lived in Ozark since 1955 and was employed as a maintenance foreman with various aircraft maintenance contractors at Fort Rucker for over 38 years until retirement in 1996.
Mr. Pechtel's father, Charles V. Pechtel, died Sunday morning, March 3, 2002, in Green wich, New York.
He is survived by his wife of almost 46 years, Betty Weeks Pechtel of Ozark; one son, Robert E. "Bobby" Pechtel, Jr. and his wife Judi of Greenville, N.C.; two granddaughters, Laura Grace and Amber Nicole Pechtel of Greenville, N.C.; four sisters, Geri Mann and Barbara Newman of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; Joan Hoteling of Schenectady N.Y. and Betty Hathaway of Bennington, Vt.; and one brother, Charlie Pechtel of Green field Center, N.Y.

Raymond Paul Stern Sr., 73, of Newton, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 26, 2002, at Flowers Hospital following a
brief illness.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. today; March 4, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Park with Byrd Funeral Home
directing. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Newton United Methodist Church.
Mr. Stern was born June 24, 1928, in Kenosha, Wis. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Navy. He attended school in Kenosha and also was employed there with American Motors for 30 years. In 1995, he moved to Newton where he resided the remainder of his life. Mr. Stern was a member of Newton United Methodist Church and the Dale County VFW.
Mr. Stern was preceded in death by a son, Howard Stern who died in 1999.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Stern, Newton; five sons, Raymond Stern, Jr., Richard Stern, George Stern, Michael Stern and William Stern; three daughters, Patricia Callis, Sandra Brown and Janet Hort; several grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters also survive.
Mr. Floyd A. "Stu" Stewart, age 73, of Route l, Ozark, died at his residence Saturday night, Feb. 23, 2002, following a long illness.
Visitation will be held at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home today from 6 to R p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with the Rev. Hugh Cowens and the Rev. Walter Reeder officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Community Care Hospice.
Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd V and Ora Lee Stewart; two brothers, Garland Stewart and
Ueal Stewart; two sisters, Inez Story and Lucy Galloway.
Mr. Stewart moved to Ozark in August 1955. He was employed as a tech rep with civil service on helicopters at Fort Rucker. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Stewart, Ozark; one daughter and her husband, Loretta Lee and Ralph Bailey Ozark; one son, Floyd V. Stewart and his fiancé, Angie, and her son, Damion, Ozark; two sisters, Roselle Burgess of Cerulean, Ky., and Vera Ashley, Evansville, Ind.; one brother and his wife, Howard M. and Shelby Stewart, Ozark; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Pallbearers will be Rusty Faria, Bret Smith, Ricky Kennedy, Josh Stewart, Kenneth Stewart and Danny Bishop.
Mr. E. R. "Doc" Peters, 93, of the Marley Mill Community of, Ozark, died early Sunday morning, Feb. 24, 2002, at a son's home following a short illness.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. William Hart and Isom Hill officiating. Internment will follow in the church cemetery with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be at the funeral home parlors from 3 p.m. today, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening. Mr. Peters was a native of the Pleasant Grove Community of Ozark, where he was a retired farmer. He has been a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for the past 73 years and was preceded in death by his wife, Oma Beasley Peters, and son, Marlin Peters.
His daughter and her husband survive him, Norma Jean and Harold Marsh, Ozark; three sons and their wives, Hilton and Marie Peters, Wilton and Nell and Vearl and Brenda Peters, all of Ozark; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Geri Peters, Ozark; a sister, Bessie Goodson, Brundidge; two brothers, Louie and Billy Peters, Ozark; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Sam Davis Folmar Sr., 85, Ozark, died in Oakview Manor Nursing Home Thursday Feb. 21, 2002.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ridgecrest Baptist Church with the Revs. Jim Hill and Max Briggs officiating.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Ozark, with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be 5 p.m. today until one hour before the service. His body will then be placed in the church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5-7 p.m. Friday.
Mr. Folmar moved to Ozark in July of 1955 where he owned and operated Folmar's OK Tire Store until July of 1995. He was an avid golfer and was considered to be the "King" domino player. Member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, veteran of World War II where he served in the Army Aircorp.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Mr. and Mrs. Jim Ross Folmar; one sister and three brothers.
Survivors: wife, Mrs. Leila S. Folmar, Ozark; three sons, Sam Davis Folmar Jr., Dothan, David Max and Becky Folmar, Ozark, Stephen Floyd and Karyn Folmar, Montgomery; two brothers, Walter Duncan and Enid Folmar Sr., Glenwood, Phillip Folmar, Troy; one sister, Louise and Max Briggs, Talladega; five grandchildren, Ashley F. Higham, Jennifer F. Sanders, Sam D. Folmar III, Christian Folmar, and Carrie Nell Folmar; three great-grandchildren, Noah Sanders, Alexandria Sanders, and Sam Davis Folmar IV; several nieces and nephews also survive.
