Mr. Harold Dorriety, 72, of Ozark, died Sunday evening, December 2, 2001, at his home following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday Dec. 5, 2001, from Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Chaplain Randall Johnson officiating. Interment will follow, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing . Visitation will be in the funeral home parlors from 3 p.m.. Tuesday Dec. 4, 2001 until time to depart for the service on Wednesday.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home parlors from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening. Mr. Dorriety was a native of Hartford, Ala., retired from the United States Air Force in 1968 and worked for General Telephone from 1969 until his retirement in 1991 following 22 years of service. He was a member of, The Clinton Masonic Lodge #287 in Skipperville and the Scottish Rite Temple in Dothan.
Survivors include his wife, Billie J. Dorriety, Ozark, one daughter, Laura A. Kemp, Ozark, one son and daughter-in-law Ronald H. and Pamela Dorriety, Fernandina Beach, Florida, one sister, Margaret Shepard, Hartford, and two grandchildren, Celeste Kemp and Chad Castro.
Anita E. Napier Johnson, age 62, of Route 8, Ewell Community, died Sunday afternoon November 25, 2001, in Dale Medical Center, Ozark.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from Ozark First Assembly of God Church in Ozark with Rev. Phil Stephens and Rev. Luther Tadlock officiating. Burial will be in Ewell Cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home chapel and one hour before service time, when her body will be placed in the church. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions are asked to be given to Ozark First Assembly of God Church Building Fund.
She was a member of the Ozark First Assembly of God church and taught Sunday school at Oakview Nursing Home. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ozark Gideon Women's Auxiliary, and was a lifelong resident of Dale County.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Rufus Johnson of Route 8, Ozark; two daughters and sons-in-law, Norma E. and Walter Cancel of Madison, Denise and Curtis Maloy of Ozark; parents, Woodrow and Ethel Napier of Ozark; one brother, Travis Napier of Ozark; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Irvin P. (Pat) Cauthen, age 66, of Ozark, died Friday evening, Nov. 23, 2001 following a long illness.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Skipperville Cemetery with Rev. Greg Aman officiating. Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Cauthen. Mr. Cauthen was a native and lifelong resident of Dale County and retired from the United States Air force.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and John Mullen, of Ozark; one son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Cindy Cauthen, of Ozark; one sister and her husband, Gloria and John Knowles, of Texas; grandchildren Mclissa and Ronald Mullen and Jessica and Travis Cauthen; one great-grandchild, Austin Mullen.
Mrs. Bobbie Jean McCarthy, 61, of Rt. l, Ozark died Friday afternoon, Nov. 23, 2001 in Dale Medical Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Skipperville United Methodist Church with Rev. Pam Freeman officiating. Burial will be at Chalkhead Cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be until one hour prior to service time when her body will be at the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Lee and Bessie Viola Groover; one sister, Lavern Alutman, one brother James Allen Groover; one grandson, Ray Childree Jr., and one nephew, Jimmy Groover.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years William C. McCarthy, of Rt. l, Ozark; one daughter, Melba Childree, of Ozark; two sons, Bill McCarthy of Ozark and Stanley McCarthy, of Skipperville; one sister, Betty Paul, of Portdale, Ga. two brothers, Truman Groover, of Jamesville, N.C. and Charles Groover, of Bushnell; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Early "Bitsy" Campbell, 93, of Rt. 1, Box 89, Clio, died Monday, Nov. 19, at Oakview Manor Health Care Center, Ozark.
Funeral services for Mr. Early (Bitsy) Campbell will be held Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at 3 p.m. from Sykes Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Spurgin Baker officiating. Mr. Campbell will lie-in-state at the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be held today from 6-8 p:m. at Skeen Funeral Home of Brundidge. Burial will follow in the Sykes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Skeen Funeral Home of Brundidge directing.
Survivors include two brothers, N.D. "Tom" Campbell, Brundidge; and Tullis "Mutt" Campbell, Clio and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Roy Mills, 65, of Rt. 3, Newton Ala. died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001 at his residence.
Memorial services will be held Friday Nov. 23, 2001 at 7 p.m. from the Chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home.
Mr. Mills was born May 15, 1937 in New York. He was a graduate of Cornell University and was employed with H.M. Copp Services.
Mrs. Jerri Fairchild Boyd, 56, of Route l, Skipperville, (Bertha Community), died at her home early Friday morning, Nov. 16, 2001, following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday Nov. 18, 2001, from the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with the Rev. Dan Sheppard officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends in the funeral home parlors from 4-6 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Mrs. Boyd was a native of Harriman, Tenn., having lived in Michigan and Florida prior to moving to the Ozark area 35 years ago.
Her daughter Robin Lynn Dryden, preceded her in death on March 1, 2001.
Her husband survives her: Robert "Bob" Boyd, (Bertha Community); one son and daughter-in-law: Robert Glen and Sharlene Boyd, Dublin, Ga.; granddaughter, Amber Rae Dryden; her father, Douglas Dryden, West Palm Beach, Fla.; two brothers and one sister-in-law: David W. and June Fairchild, West Palm Beach, Fla., and Dean Fairchild, Miami, Fla.
Mrs. Carolyn C. Thrasher 77, of Ozark, died Thursday Nov. 15, 2001.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday Nov. 17, 2001 from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 16, 2001 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Thrasher worked as a LPN at Dale Medical Center in Ozark for 17 years, and 11 years at Lakeview Community Hospital in Eufaula.

Mr. David Ray McLaughlin, 57, of Ariton, died Tuesday, Nov.l3, 2001.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday Nov. 20, from the Chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with Brother Jamie Smith officiating. Burial will follow with full military and Masonic rites in the Bethel Assembly of God Church Cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Mr. McLaughlin was a Master Mason for 30 years and a member of Ariton Lodge #171. He was the worshipful master for four terms and serving as treasurer. He was also a 32 Degree Seottish Rite and a member of the Shrine, He was retired from the U. S. Army as a staff. sergeant and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, where he received a National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Humanitarian Service Medal. At the time of his death, he was employed at the U.S. Post Office in Ozark.
He was preceded in death by his father, Basil McLaughlin. Survivors include his wife, Lee Ella McLaughlin, Ariton, Ala.; one daughter and son-in-law, Liz Ronny Baxley, Texasville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Sonya McLaughlin, Brundidge, and Shawn and Misti McLaughlin, Ariton; mother Geraldine McLaughlin, Buckeye, WV; one sister, Kay Ross, Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Joyce McLaughlin, Elizabeth City, N.C.; Kenneth and Barbara McLaughlin, Roanoke, Va; four grandchildren, Steven Baxley of Texasville; Jamie Ray Littlefield, Ariton; Justin McLaughlin and Nick McLaughlin, both of Brundidge; one great-granddaughter, Kelsey Littlefield, Ariton; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. Elizabeth Brown Griggs, 67, of Skipperville died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, in a Northport Ala., nursing home.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday from the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Billy D. Gaither officiating. Burial will be in the Skipperville United Methodist Church cemetery with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be at the funeral home parlors from 3 p.m. today. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. tonight.
Mrs. Griggs was a native of Dale County. She attended nursing school at Carraway Methodist Hospital in Birmingham. She was employed with Sears Roebuck catalogue store in Ozark for 10 years, then with Vivian B. Adams School in Ozark for 22 years until her retirement in 1994. Mrs. Griggs was a member of the Ozark First United Methodist Church where she was a member of its Chancel Choir, the United Methodist Women and the Kells C. Carroll Sunday school class.
Her Husband Wiley H. Griggs and Son W. Glen Griggs preceded her in death.
Survivors include her two daughters and one son-in-law, Dennie and Bob Moorehead, Skipperville and Amy Griggs, Birmingham; her grandson, Heath Moorehead, Skipperville; and her mother, Mrs. Wilma Mathison Brown, Ozark.
Mr. George Marcus Flowers, of Ozark, died Saturday Nov. 10, 2001, in the Tuskegee VA. Hospital in Tuskegee.
Funeral service will be held Friday Nov. 16, 2001 at 1 p.m. in the St. Mark A.M.E.Z. Church on Liberty Avenue in Ozark, with the Rev. Cammack Officiating. Burial will be in the Little Zion Cemetery in Ozark. Trawick Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Jeanette Story Dillard, 61, died Friday Nov 9, 2001 in Birmingham .
Funeral services will be held Monday 2 p.m. Nov 12, 2001 at Bethel Baptist Church in Newton, with Rev. Craig Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be today from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and Mrs. Dillard's body will be placed in the church an hour prior to the service Monday.
Mrs. Dillard was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, a devoted wife, mother grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include: her husband of 44 years Clarence Joseph Dillard, of Newton sons, Randy Clarence Dillard, of Newton, Timothy Wayne Dillard of Newton. Another son, Danny Joe Dillard preceded her in death. Also surviving are: son-in-law, Ken Prescott, of Newton; two daughters, Donna Jean Prescott, of Newton, Vicky Smith of Newton; two daughters-in-law Dana Lee Dillard, of Newton, Sharon Dillard of Newton; four grandchildren, Kelli Marie Dillard, Felicia Nicole Dillard, Timothy Lee Dillard, and Paul Wesley Dillard, of Newton; one great-granddaughter, Kayli Alexis Dillard, of Newton; one brother, Grady Story, of Vernon Fla., many in-laws, family and friends.
Mr. Sammie W. "Sam" Gillentine, 74, of Ozark, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at his home following an extended illness.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced by the family Mr. Gillentine was a native of Mansfield, Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years and was an auditor for the Federal Government until his retirement in 1995. Mr. Gillentine was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Nit Gillentine, of Ozark; one daughter, Maile Gillentine, of Califomia; six sons, Sammie W. Gillentine, Jr. San Bernadino, Calif.; Herbert Gillentine, Sacramento, Calif., David Gillentine, Los Angeles, Calif.,
Timothy Gillentine California; Mark Gillentine, Hawaii; and Daniel Gillentine, California; four sisters, Hazel Branson, Ft. Worth, Texas, Oneita Schmelried, Alvord, Texas, Ruth Basham, Clebuene, Texas, and Pauline Hagler, Green 's Ferry, Arkansas.
Six grandchildren and seven grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Annette Jones, 47, of Ozark, died Thursday Nov. 8, 2001 following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday Nov. 15, 2001 at the Greater Sardis Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Stephen Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Westside Cemetery, with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 5-9 p.m. and Mrs. Jones will also lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Mrs. Jones is preceded in death by her father Landlord Jones and one brother, Milton Ziglar Jones.
Mrs. Jones was member of the Greater Sardis Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir. She also loved children, her friends, and was passionate about softball, playing for several teams. Survivors include: mother Hazel Z. Jones, Ozark; four sisters, Jeanette Jones McLaughlin of Ozark, Mary Helen (Charles) Baker of Detroit, Ingrid Y. Jones of Montgomery and Angela (Rico) Jones of Ozark; three bothers, David Jones of Ozark, Thomas (Mary Ann) Jones of Ozark, and Jimmy Jones of Huntsville; special friend Jo Ann Moultrie of Rochester, NY; special cousin Ida Mae (Luther) Smith of Troy; a host of nieces, nephews & cousins also survive.
Mr. John Abbott, 64, of Ozark, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001 in Dale Medical Center.
A memorial service with full military honors will be 10:30 a.m. Monday Nov. 12, 2001 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6020 in Daleville, with Chaplain Cliff Ford officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the Village Inn in Newton.
Mr. Abbott was a native of Vira, having served in the United Sates Army and civil service until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6020 in Daleville.
Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Bill Pierce, Mobile; two sons and one daughter-in-law John E. Abbott, Gloucester Point, Virginia; and Jeffrey and Samantha Abbott, Seaford, Virginia; his father, James K. Lafferty Pasadena, Maryland; one brother George E. Abbott, Newark, Del.; four grandchildren, John Brandon Abbott, Sara Angela Peckham, Kylie Brian Abbott, and Leigh Ann Michelle Abbott. Several loving friends also survive.
Mrs. Lynna Mae Rosser Atkinson, 94, of Ozark, died at her home in Ozark Wednesday morning, Nov. 7, 2001.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from, Newton City Cemetery with Rev. Randall Yelverton officiating. Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is directing. Mrs. Atkinson was born, in Dozier Ala., Feb. 13, 1907. She had resided in Ozark for the past 55 years. She was a member of the Ozark Presbyterian Church where she had taught Sunday School and was involved in other functions of the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Hugh Atkinson; parents, Thomas Lawrence and Naomi Gore Rosser; four brothers, James Marcus Rosser, Thomas G. Rosser, William Gore Rosser and Lawrence Grady Rosser; one sister Thelma Dale Carroll.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Clare Lynn and Mansfield Patrick White of Ozark; two granddaughters and one grandson-in-law, Cynthia Lynn and William R . Woodham Jr. of Dothan and Patricia Rebecca White of Atlanta; two great-granddaughters, Patricia Lynn Woodham of Washington, D.C., and Laura Elizabeth Woodham of Dothan.
Mrs. Eileen J. Wallace, 73, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 6, 2001, in Dale Medical Center.
The graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Woodlawn Memory Gardens in Ozark eith the Rev. Jim Hill officiating and Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing.
She is survived by her husband, Sam Wallace, Ozark; and a sister Mary Kathryn Groomer, Maryland.
Mr. Roy O'Neal Tharpe, 90, of Ozark (Ewell Community) went to be with the Lord Monday, Nov. 5, 2001.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at 2 p.m. from Hillcrest Baptist Church in Ozark with Pastors Isom Hill and Dauid Lewis officiating. Eulogy will be given by Mrs. Derotha Dunlap. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery wifh Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be at the funeral home tonight from 6-8. The family will receive friends at this time. A lifelong resident of Dale County Mr. Tharpe resided in the Ozark area. He was the son of the late William Augustus and Anzilla Hughes Tharpe of Ozark. He was employed with Cowikee Mills where he retired in 1973. He was also employed with the Ozark School System as a bus driver for 23 years. He was the oldest member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Ozark.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Effie Goodson Tharpe and two sons: Charles O'Neal and Jennings Earl Tharpe.
He is survived by one daughter, Janis Peel, Ozark; four grandchildren: Micky and Tracy Dunlap, Ewell Community, Ladon and Stephanie Jones, Pensacola, Fla., Lloyd and Vicki Snellgrove, Ozark, and Ricky and Kim Tharpe, Midland City; great-grandchildren: Logan, Graham. and Mickenzie Dunlap, Reid and Riley Jones, Jeremy and Jordy Miller and Tyler Tharpe; one sister, Velma Dickerson, Ozark; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law: H.L. and Maxaline Goodson, Ozark; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. Ollie M. Jacobs Pope, 84, of Ozark, died Tuesday morning, November 6, 2001, in Dale Medical Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday November 8, 2001 from Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church with the Reverend Hugh Owen officiating. Mrs. Pope was a native of Dale County where she was a homemaker and a member of Ozark First Assembly of God Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William A. and Clara Ellen Chapman Jacobs, and her husband, Samuel Z. Pope.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Mildrum and her husband, Allan, I., Ozark, one son, Samuel Thomas Pope and his wife, Betty S., Crane Hill, AL, one sister, Arulie Lou Gaddy and her husband, Jimmy; Salem, AL four sisters-in-law, Bessie Lee Guilford, Sallie Mae Pope, Erma Paramore, Florida, and Inez Jacobs, Columbus, Georgia. Six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Carrie Lee Russaw, a resident of Ozark, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001., at the Dale Medical Center in Ozark.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at First Missionary Baptist Church on East Andrews Ave. in Ozark. The Rev. Dr. S.C. Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Clayton with Trawick Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Anna Danner Long, 88, of Ozark, died Sunday morning; Nov. 4, 2001, at her home in Ozark following a long illness.

Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her husband Duie (Boke) Long; four brother, and four sisters.

Mr. B. Floyd Watson, 78, died Saturday night, Nov. 3, 2001, at Dale Medical Center following a long illness.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday from Morgan Baptist Church with Rev. Dayrel Hammond and Rev. Jim Booth officiating. Burial will follow in Bersheba Cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Masonic rites will be conducted at graveside. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday and one hour before service time Tuesday at the church. At other times, the family will be at the residence in Skipperville. Mr. Watson was a native and lifelong resident of Dale County. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the United States Civil Service at Fort Rucker. For 30 years he served on the board of directors of the Pea River Electric Cooperative. He was an active member of the Morgan Baptist Church and Clinton Masonic Lodge #287 in Skipperville.
Survivors include his faithful and devoted wife of 50 years, Margaret Hughes Watson, Skipperville; daughter, Jean Watson of Bainbridge, Ga.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Lillian Watson of Skipperville, Joe F. and Neva Watson of Kinsey; four grandchildren, Johnny Watson and Monica of Skipperville; Robert S. Watson of Gainesville, Ga., Kacie and Whitney Watson of Kinsey; a great-grand-daughter and great-grandson, Sierra and Hunter Watson of Skipperville; one brother and sister-in-law, J.C. and Jackie Watson of Newton, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
