Mr. Yancey Parker, 88 of Enterprise, Ala., died Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at Medical Center Enterprise, in Enterprise, Ala.
The funeral will be at l l a.m.. Saturday, November 30, 2002. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Walker Epps officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time at First United Methodist Church.
Yancey Cader Parker was born May 30, 1914, in Dale County in the Mabson Community. He was the first grandson of Yancey and Miranda Carroll and Cader and Lingo Parker. Yancey was also the first son of Robert Roy Parker and Anna Mae Carroll.
In the early 1920's he joined the Mabson Methodist Church. The family later moved to Ozark where he joined the Ozark Methodist Episcopal Church.
He became interested in the retail business while working in his uncles stores, Carroll and Sons in Ozark. In 1942 he was called to serve in the United States Army. Also, in 1942, he married Evelyn Mixson of Skipperville, Ala. They were married for 60 years. The owner of Yancey Parker's Store for Men in Enterprise since 1949, Mr. Parker was active in the Alabama Retailers Association and received the Retailer of the Year Award in 2001. He also serves as Regional Vice-President of the ARA for several years. He was active in numerous church and civic organizations, including the Enterprise First United Methodist Church, where he served in many leadership capacities such as pastor-parish-staff relations committee chairperson, finance committee chairperson, and administrative board chairperson. In addition, he was a member of the Enterprise Rotary Club, being honored with the Paul Harris Fellowship Award; the Enterprise Nursing Home Board of Directors, serving as chairperson for many years; the Army Aviation Museum Foundation, where he was a major fundraiser. Mr. Parker was also instrumental in organizing the celebration of Farm-City Week for Coffee County and also the Industrial Park, which is named in his honor.
Survivors include his wife Evelyn Parker, Enterprise, Ala.; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Addison Paul, Enterprise, Ala.; a sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Oliver Kingsley, Ozark, Ala.; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Parker, Ozark, Ala., and Mildred Parker, Ozark, Ala.; other sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law include Whigham and Imogene Mixson, Ozark, Ala., Kathryn and Bill Piper, Dothan, Ala., Dr. Andrew and Sara Jane Mixson, Raleigh, North Carolina, and Sara Mixson, Ozark, Ala.; a number of nieces and nephews and cousins also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Enterprise State Junior College Performing Arts, Continuing Education and Technology Center building Fund; the U.S. Army Aviation Museum at Fort Rucker; the First United Methodist Church of Enterprise; or the Enterprise Nursing Home.
Mrs. Helen Ann Brackin, 46 of Route 4 in Ozark, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 27, 2002, at her residence following a long illness.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with the Rev. W.L. Sheffield officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Family will receive friends from noon until service time Friday at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband Willie Woodrow Brackin in 2000.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ann Morris of Ozark; two sons: Lonnie Earl Brackin of Ozark and Albert Brackin of Pauchuta, Miss.; three sisters, Margie Woodard of Ozark, Margaret Hollvway of Hartford and Laura Lynn Yeomens of Hartford; five brothers, Stanley Tomlin, Jimmy Wiggins, David Wiggins, O'Neal Wiggins, all of Ozark and Julian Tomlin of Prattville; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Robert Fain Bonner, 59 of Jones Road in Newton, died early Monday morning, Nov. 25, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church with the Rev. Buddy Hood and Dr. Johnny Fain officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. Mr. Bonner will be placed in the church one hour before service time today. Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Covenant Hospice, 207 West Adams St., Dothan, Ala., 36303.
Mr. Bonner was born July 9, 1943, in Dale County and lived the early years of his life in the Wicksburg area. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the U. S. Air Force. He was employed with DynCorp as an avionics technician for 37 years before his retirement in 2000. Mr. Bonner was a member of the Model Train Club. He was also a member of Pilgrim Home Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, Training Union and was in the church choir.
Mr. Bonner was loved and cherished by his wife's family Al and Pat Klapal, Jane Hartley, Xanthea Kennedy and Freddy and Teresa Klapal and several nieces and nephews.
His father, Wyatt S. Bonner, predeceased Mr. Bonner.
Survivors include his wife, Marlena Klapal Bonner of Newton; five children, Jennifer Armstrong (Troy) of Cleveland, Miss., Mark Bonner of Destin, Fla., Michele Sorrells (Tim) of Canton, Ga., Noel Vanlandingham (Sonya) of Abbeville, Lance Hawkins (Kelli) of Atoka, Tenn.; his mother, Martha Fain Bonner of Newton; a grandson, Bryant Armstrong; granddaughters, Ashley Sorrells and Jade Vanlandingham; and an aunt and an uncle also survive.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Gary Cox, Chuck Batherson, Mike Portersfield, Connell Driskell, Tony Hartley and Ronnie Fain.
Honorary pallbearers will be the avionics technicians at Hanchey Field, Fort Rucker.
Mrs. Margaret Taylor, 65 of Route 8, Box 502, Frank Marshall, Ozark, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at Flowers Hospital following an extended illness.
Mrs. Taylor was a retired Carroll High School teacher.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Ozark. The body will be placed in the church two hours before the service. The Rev. H.J. Fitchard will officiate. Interment will be at Traveler's Rest Cemetery in Ozark.
Mrs. Taylor was born January 18, 1937, to the late Monroe D. Neal, Sr. and Ossie Dora Neal. She received her early education in Ozark. After graduating from D.A. Smith High School, Mrs. Taylor attended Alabama State University in Montgomery, receiving her Bachelor of Science and a Masters Degree in Education. Upon returning to Ozark she was employed with the Ozark City School System as a teacher until her retirement. She was a member of the Ozark Retired Teacher's Association and the Daffodil Garden Club.
Mrs. Taylor was a faithful member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church having joined at an early age. She served as a Primary Sunday School Teacher, Class Leader No. 9, member of Heavenly Voices Choir of St. Paul A.M.E. Church.
Survivors include her husband, Wyatt F. Taylor, Sr.; one son, Wyatt F. [ Rita] Taylor, Jr. of Sulphur Springs, Texas; one daughter, Irish (Christopher) Clark, of Windsor, CT; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Nettie Ruth (Brown) Deyampert of Montgomery, Rosa Lee [Tim] Edwards of Ozark, Gwendolyn [Frank] Pryor of Ozark; one brother, Reverend Ralph [Katherine] Neal of Phenix City; five sisters-in-law, Votie .Hawkins, Detroit, MI, Betty [Jamet] Mathews, Janet Taylor. Carrol Baxter, and Shirley Welch, all of Ozark; two brothers-in-law, James W. [Bertha] Taylor, Jr. and George K. [Pauline] Taylor, Jr., all of Ozark; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Daniel and Linda Neal, Jr.
Mr. John Jackson "Junie" Mizell, 91of the Ewell community, died early Saturday morning, Nov. 23, 2002, in Dale Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 2 p. m. Monday at Chalkhead Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy West officiating. Interment will follow in the Peniel Cemetery with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. today at the funeral home parlors until one hour before service time Monday, when it will be held in the church. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. today. Mr. Mizell was a native of the Peniel community of Dale County where he farmed, then during World War II he worked as an electrician at Napier Field, Camp Rucker and Fort Benning. In later ears he worked with his sons at Associated Builders as an estimator. He was a member and deacon at Peniel Baptist Church and at Chalkhead Baptist Church where he taught the Men's Sunday School.
His wife, Mrs. Susanna Hagler Mizell, preceded Mr. Mizell in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Hughes of Ozark, Pam Keown and her husband Dale of Greenville, S.C., Rita Gifford and her husband Jack of Pelham, Alabama; two sons, Jack Mizell and his wife Alice Faye of Ozark, Larry G. Mizell and his wife Patti of Ozark; 14 grandchildren; and l3 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Annie Lee Currington, 80 of West College Street in Ozark, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, following an extended illness.

Marguerite Worthington McGuffin, 83 of Ozark, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at her residence following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Willis officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.
Mrs. McGuffin was born Dec. 6, 1918, in Andalusia and lived there her early years of her life. She was employed with civil service for over 30 years prior to her retirement in the mid 1980's while at Fort Rucker. She resided in Montgomery prior to moving to Dothan in 1975. Mrs. McGuffin was a member of Newton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Frederick J. McGuffin, Ozark; three children, Frederick A. McGuffin and his wife, Wanda, Pearl City Hawaii, Susan Beasley and husband, John, Dothan, Harold Riggs, Pensacola, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Juanita McDaniel, Eclectic; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Otis Thompson, 60 of County Rd. 354, Elamville, died Sunday November 17, 2002 in Dale Medical Center.

Mr. Thompson was born Jan. 19, 1942, in Barbour County, son of the late Ernest and Ida Bell Thompson. He was a member of Elamville Assembly of God Church.
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Thompson, in 1999; a brother Donald Ray Thompson; and a granddaughter Allison Thompson.

Mr. Rex Crews Jr., 73 of Ozark passed away Sunday evening, Nov. 17, 2002, at his home on College Lane in Ozark.

Mrs. Sallie O'Neal Sollie, 74 of Ozark, died in her home surrounded by her family on Sunday Nov. 17, 2002.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ozark First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr, Billy Gaither officiating. Interment will be in Westview Memorial Cemetery with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at Holman Funeral Home 4-6 p.m. today. Mrs. Sollie was born in Birmingham on Dec. 15, 1927, but lived in Ozark most of her life. A lifelong advocate of education, she was a graduate of Sullins College in Bristol, Va., where she was in the May Court and a graduate of the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma social sororitv. She continued graduate studies at Troy State University. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the John Wesley Sunday School class and United Methodist Women and an Honorary Member of the Administrative Board. Previously she was a Girl Scout leader, Sunday School teacher, a member of the Literary Club, and a founding member of the Misses Club.
Mrs. Sollie taught school for one year in Greenville and for five years in Ozark City Schools. After her father passed away, she managed and owned O'Neal Oil Company for 16 years in partnership with her mother. She was also involved in real estate for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, James Johnson Sollie, Sr., and by her parents, Max Lamar and Virginia Hill O'Neal. As a single child, she delighted in her numerous cousins and friends (whom she loved as siblings) as they gathered at the popular O'Neal home on East Avenue.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia O'Neal Sollie, Panama City, Florida, and Mary Hill Sollie, Ozark; and one son, James J. Sollie, Jr., and his wife Joan of Ozark; three grandchildren, J. Johnson Sollie, III, and his wife Holly of Mobile; Alexandria O'Neal Sollie, Mobile; and Matthew Sollie Harrison, Ozark; one great grandson, J.J. "Jake" Sollie, IV, of Mobile; and three step-grandchildren, Dawn Holloway, Jennifer Dunn, and Ben Ogle.
Mrs. Mary Lee Crabbe, 95 of Ozark passed away Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at Dale Medical Center in Ozark .

Mrs. Lynne Hughes Kipfer, 84 of Decatur, Ga., and a native of the Asbury community died Monday morning, Nov. 11, 2002, in Dekalb Medical Center in Decatur, Ga.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday from Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dave Rhodes officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time. Mrs. Kipfer was born Feb. 10, 1918, in the Asbury community to the late Effie Mae Woods Hughes and John Bascom Hughes. She lived in various locations while her husband served in the military.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Duff Hughes.
Survivors include her husband, LTC. (Ret.) Charles W. (Bill) Kipfer Sr., of Decatur, Ga., one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Chet Yort of Pensacola, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles Jr. and Patti Kipfer of Woodstock, Ga.; one aunt, Lura Gaines of Ozark; one sister-in-law Nellie Hughes of Asbury; three grandchildren, Chris Yort of Pensacola, Fla., Curtis Kipfer of Woodstock, Ga., and Kelly Kipfer of Woodstock, Ga.; and two first cousins, Sydney Johnson and Judge Charles Woods of Ozark.

Avon R. Farnum, 89 of Ozark died Tuesday morning, Nov. 12, 2002, in the Ozark Nursing Facility following a long illness.

Mrs. Owens was born Oct. 18, 1926, in Ariton. She was a member of the Ariton Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her first husband of 42 years, Woodrow Robinette; and a grandson, Bill Robinette.

Mrs. Willie Frances Paramore Lee, 84 of Ozark died Sunday Nov. 10, 2002, in Dale Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. today from Ozark Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Aman officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Lee was born in Dale County on July 29, 1918, the daughter of Annie Jane Ezell Paramore and Jessie Paramore.

Corbitt Lee, Ozark; one daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Bill Simpson, Conyers, Ga.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Eldred Lamar and Phyllis Lee, Ozark, Edwin L. and Cheryl Lee, Ohatchee; three sisters, Vergie Walker, Ozark, Amnie P Goodson, Florida, and Dorothy Lisenby Florida; one brother, Luther Paramore, Birmingham; seven grandchildren, Michelle Andrews and her husband, Bob, Ozark, Lamar Lee, Ozark, Jody Lee, Ozark, Vaughn Lee and his wife, Deann, Heflin, Heather Phillips and her husband, Shane, Ohatchee, Benjamin Simpson, Conyers, Ga., and Jeffrey Simpson, Conyers, Ga., and nine great-grandchildren.
Lucille Baxley Shiver Parker, 86 and a resident of the Ozark Nursing Facility, died Thursday morning, November 7, 2002, in the nursing facility.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Corinth Free Will Baptist Church, near Midland City, with Rev. Ed Peters officiating. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the Roeton Baptist Church Cemetery, in Coffee County, with Holman-Headland Mortuary directing. The family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m. in the Corinth Free Will Baptist Church sanctuary.
Mrs. Parker was born and reared in the Christian Hill Community of Dale County, the daughter of the late William Oscar Baxley and Zina Windham Baxley. She formerly lived in the Prestwood Community of Coffee County and in Dale County, near Echo, before moving to the nursing facility.
Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her husbands, Grady Shiver and Coy Parker; two sisters, Annie Stevens and Ruby Kennedy; five brothers, Roy Baxley, Fred Baxley, Clayton Baxley, Ralph Baxley and Frank Baxley.
Surviving relatives include her sister, Irene Bolden, Dothan; a brother-in-law, J.D. Kennedy, Phenix City; a stepdaughter, Kathleen Willoughby, Ariton; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Phillip Horne, Scott Horne, Todd Horne, Perry Stevens, Tommy Stevens and Michael Stevens.
Ida Jo Harrison, 68 of Ozark, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan.
Miss Ida Jo Harrison served the people of Alabama for over 30 years while working with the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Wyatt Funeral Home in Opp with interment in Cool Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 6-8 p.m. Friday at Wyatt Funeral Home in Opp. Memorial gifts may be made to the church or charity of your choice.
Miss Harrison was a member of Southside Baptist Church where she was an active member of the Sybil Dillard Sunday School Class. She was born in Opp on Feb. 17, 1934, to the late Leonard Vestor Harrison and Ethel Estelle Clark Harrison. She graduated from Opp High School in 1952. She attended Alabama College, now the University of Montevallo, on academic scholarships where she earned a bachelor of science degree in home economics. After earning a master of science degree from the University of Tennessee, she completed postgraduate work at Colorado State University.
Miss Harrison began her career as a home economics teacher in Red Level. Later she was a County Extension Assistant in Luverne, and a County Extension Home Economics Agent in Live Oak and Blountstown, Fla., before going to Ozark. After a 31-year career of public service including 16 years in Dale County, Miss Harrison retired as the Dale County Home Economics Agent. She was a member of the Alabama Home Economics Association for over 20 years, and received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of Extension Home Economists in 1978.
After retirement, she enjoyed traveling extensively as a tour guide with the Southern Coach Travel Agency. She was an active member of the Pilot Club of Ozark, having served in several leadership roles including president and treasurer. She was named Pilot of the Year three times. She also served on the board for Habitat for Humanity.
Six brothers and sisters and in-laws survive her: Geraldine Pierce (Howard) of Andalusia; Addie Jane Polles (Nick) of Mansfield, Ohio; Donald Harrison (Joyce) of Georgetown, Ga.; Glen Harrison (Mary) of Centre; Jimmy Harrison (Ellen) of Morven, N.C.; and John Harrison (Dorothy) of Green Ridge, Mo. Nieces and nephews also survive her. A brother, Leon Harrison, preceded her in death.
She cherished the friendship of many friends and neighbors who mourn her death.
Mr. Jimmy Ray McDaniel, 69 of the Echo community, died Monday afternoon, Nov. 4, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Sweet officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. The body will lie in-state at the church one hour before the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials are asked to be made to Bethel United Methodist Church or Community Care Hospice.
Mr. McDaniel was a native and lifelong resident of Dale County. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where he served as finance chairman and member of the administration board. Mr. McDaniel was a retired logger and farmer. He previously served as vice president and treasurer of Dale County Farmers Federation and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is preceded in death by parents, Cooper and Ollie McDaniel, and infant son, Robin McDaniel.
Survivors include, his wife of 49 years, Jeanine McDaniel of Echo; one son and daughter-in-law, Timmy and Lyn McDaniel of Echo; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Lewie and Marie McDaniel, Elton and Marceline McDaniel, Joe and Frankie McDaniel, and Wayne McDaniel all of Echo; two granddaughters, Jamie McDaniel and Robin McDaniel both of Echo.
