David Lee Robinson, 45, of Ozark, died Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at Flowers Hospital following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 7, at the Church of God by Faith with Reverend H. R. Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Henry County with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing.
Mr. Robinson was born June 9, 1957 in Henry County to the late Tommy Lee Robinson and Flora Whigham Robinson. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and has been engaged in farming all of his life in Midland City.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Robinson, New York; one step-daughter, Teresa Green wood, Daleville; son, Marvin Hunter, Morrow, Georgia; seven sisters, Mary Robinson, Ewell, Wanda Gail Robinson, Ozark, Winnie Roth Brown, Dothan, Ethel Mae Brown, Dothan, Racheal Brown, Dothan, Rose Mary Brown, Dothan, and Caroline Brown, Dothan; six brothers, Tommy Earl Robinson, Ewell, Jerry Robinson, Ozark, Anthony Wade Robinson, Ozark, Carl Brown, Julius Brown and Frederick Brown, all of Dothan; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; special friends, Chris, Page and Ricky Thompson, and Dan and Chubby Thompson.
Mr. Napolean Trawick, 66 of Ozark, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Dale Medical Center in Ozark.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Missionary Baptist Church on East Andrews Avenue in Ozark. Burial will be in the Travelers Rest Cemetery, with Ur. S.C. Jackson officiating.
Mr. Trawick was the owner of the Trawick Funeral Home. He was a graduate of D.A. Smith High School and Tuskegee Institute of Tuskegee. He was a retired teacher with the Ozark City School System. He was also the first to organize the Alabama Democratic Conference branch in Dale County, where he was its first chairman and served for many years. He was a third degree master mason and also belonged to other organizations. He also served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged.
Mr. Trawick is survived by his mother, Mamie Trawick of Ozark; two sons, Johnny D. Trawick of Ozark and James F. Phillips of Montgomery; one daughter, Resie Thornton of Auburn; 12 grandchildren; aunts; cousins; and many friends.
Mrs. Laura Daye, 71 of Ozark, died Monday morning, Sept. 30, 2002, at Dale Medical Center in Ozark.
The funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at First Missionary Baptist Church on East Andrew Avenue in Ozark. Burial will be in the Ozark City Cemetery with Dr. S.C. Jackson officiating. The family will be at the residence, 242 Boykin Ave. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Ozark Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Roger Keahey age 47 of Ross Drive, Newton, Alabama died at his home Sunday Sept. 29, 2002.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. Burial will be in Union Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark, Al. directing. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m.
Mr. Keahey was born in Pike County, lived most of his life in Dale County. He was currently working for Coca-Cola for the past 17 years. He is preceded in death by his father; William J. Keahey in 1999, Grandmother; Jewell Gladys Dillard, June of 2002.
Survivors are his wife, Sharon Keahey of Newton; three daughters, Summer Keahey of Daleville, Sarah Lynn Keahey of Mississippi, Kahley Nerrod of Enterprise; mother, Patricia Keahey of Newton; one sister, Charlotte McCue and husband Billy McCue of Dothan; two grandchildren, Michela Keahey, and McKenzie Keahey; and a special nephew, David McCue.
Mrs. Mary Faye Nix, 68 of Ozark, died Sunday evening, Sept. 29, 2002, at Dale Medical Center following an extended illness.
Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Woodlawn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Phil Stephens officiating and Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing.
Mrs. Nix was born in Parrish, Ala., but lived most of her life in Dale County. She had retired from the Ozark Board of Education, she had also worked as a secretary at D.A. Smith School.
Survivors include three daughters, Vicki and Martin Corbett of Jacksonville, Fla.; Ginger and Chuck Hardy of Madison; and Tammy Nix of Ozark; one sister, Marcelle Sumner of Parrish; two brothers, Jimmy Brown of Downers Grove, Ill.; and Bob Brown of Parrish; five grandchildren, Carmen Valadez and husband, Larry, Heather and husband, Randy Sommers, Neal Hardy III, Mathew Hardy and Paden Hardy; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Valadez and Victoria Sommers.
Mr. Leroy William "Bubba" Bodford, 50 of Ozark, died Saturday Sept. 28, 2002, at his home.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Greg Aman officiating.
Mr. Bodford was a native Ozark, a 1970 graduate of Carroll High School, and attended Auburn University. He worked in the family business and was employed with Panther Creek Golf Club. He was a member of Logan Road Baptist Church.
Mr. Bodford was preceded in death by his parents Effie Lee Peters Bodford and Leroy William "Shorty" Bodford Sr.

Mrs. Learie Mae Senn Green, 64, of Ariton died Wednesday evening, Sept. 25, 2002, at Flowers Hospital following an extended illness.

Mrs. Green was born Sept. 10, 1938, in Barbour Couny to the late Henry David and Beanie Mae Senn. She was a devoted mother and lived most of her life in the Ariton area.

Mr. Ralph Beasley, 79, of Ozark died Wednesday evening, Sept. 25, 2002, at Dale Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mr. Beasley was born June 21, 1923, in Dale County to the late Virgil and Wilma Bryan Beasley. He was retired from the Dale County Road & Bridge Dept. as a truck driver. Mr. Beasley was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Cheryl M. Brewer, 51 of Daleville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at her home following an extended illness.

Mrs. Brewer was born March 29, 1951, in Plainsfleld, N.J., and has lived in the Daleville area for the past 22 years. She worked with Kentucky Fried Chicken in Daleville and Enterprise, and also with Lee's Steakhouse in Daleville. She was a member of the Catholic faith.

Retired Staff Sgt. Robert L.Hice Sr., 61, of Ozark died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, in Dale Medical Center following an extended illness.

Retired Staff Sgt. Hice was a Tennessee native and lived in Ozark for the past 30 years, where he was a member of the Ozark Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army and retired in 1984, then worked with Page Aircraft Maintenance as an aircraft mechanic and with Dunbarton in Dothan as a welder.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Iola Parson Hice Thornton and George Robert Hice; his step-father, Donald Edward Thornton; and one brother, Donald E. Thornton Jr.

Mrs. Wade was born in Autryville, Ga., but lived most of her life in Columbus, Ga., and Lakeland, Fla., before moving to Ozark, where she was a resident of Oakview Manor Nursing Facility. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie B. Wade in 1965, one daughter, Marilyn Wade, and two sons, Joel Wade and Ronald Wade in 1966.

Mr. Wilson Colvie Cooper, 88, a retired Civil Service heavy equipment mechanic, of Magnolia Street, Ozark, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 18, 2002, in Dale Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Cooper was a native of the Ebenezer Community of Dale County and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He retired from Civil Service at Fort Rucker, where he worked with the engineering department. Mr. Cooper received his 50-year Masonic Pin in September from Ozark Masonic Lodge #349.

Dr. Ab Flowers, 83, of Panama City Beach, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at his home.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Westview Memorial Cemetery in Ozark. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Flowers Center for Performing Arts, 1044 East Andrews Ave., Ozark, Ala., 36360.
Mr. Flowers was an Ozark native and attended local schools. He received his bachelor's degree from Auburn University, his master's degree from the University of Alabama in chemical engineering, and his doctorate from the University of Tennessee in metallurgy.
Dr. Flowers had many accomplishments in his lifetime. In 1979, he received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the American Society for Metals. In 1981, he assumed the position of executive scientist for the Gas Research Institute. He played a leading role in materials research related to synthetic fuels, and was past chairman of the board and member of the executive committee for the Metal Properties Council.
After retirement, he remained active as a consultant and traveled extensively including to China and Japan. He held many patents in steel processing and research.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Gay Flowers of Panama City Beach, Fla.; a son Tennyson Flowers of Santa Monica, Calif.; a daughter, Pam Flowers of Latham, N.Y.; a son Leslie Flowers of Cody Wyo.; and five grandchildren.
Helen Elaine Hardy, 76, of Skipperville passed away Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, in Ozark.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Assembly of God Church in Chipley with the Rev. Ted Satterfield, the Rev. Dallas Pettis and the Rev. Carl Hodges officiating. She lived in Skipperville for the past three years, but was from Chipley, Fla. She was of the Assembly of God faith and a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Chipley. She was also the organizer and the first secretary for the Chamber of Commerce in Chipley. She was a Sunday School teacher at the First Assembly of God Church for 40 years. She also managed Hardy Catfish Diner for nine years.
She is preceded in death by a daughter, Cherryl Morris.

Mrs. Bessie R. Smith, 81, of Ozark died Thursday morning, Sept. 12, 2002, at her home following an extended illness.

Mrs. Smith was a native and lifelong resident of Dale County. She was a member of Post Oak Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter Lee Smith and Lloyd Homer Smith; sons, Gerald Douglas Smith and Robert Lee Smith; and grandson, Ricky Smith.

Retired Major Fredrick A. (Fred) Vernon, USMC, a retired flight instructor and avid pilot of Ozark, died early Wednesday morning, Sept. 11, 2002, in Dale Medical Center following an extended illness.

Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with full military honors and with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Vernon was a native of Jewell, Iowa. His wife, Dorothy Ann Fugett Vernon preceded him in death in October 1990.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1939. After duty as a plane captain in several West Coast and Hawaii squadrons, he was assigned to Naval Flight Training in 1941 at Pensacola NAS, FL. He served as a fighter pilot in the World War II with tours in Somoa, the Gilbert Islands and the Marshall Islands. The advent of the Korean War sent him to that country as a Marine All weather Fighter/Bomber pilot s in the F4U airplane. He later entered the jet age with the first USMC jet fighter
squadron in 1953.
Major Vernon retired from the service in 1961 in New River MCAS as commander of the Headquarters and Maintenance Squadron. His awards include the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with four Gold Stars. Joining Southern Airways of Texas at Fort Wolters, Texas, in 1961, he trained U.S. Army students at the U.S. Army Primary Helicopter School from 1961 to 1973. The school was moved to Fort Rucker in 1973. He joined Doss Aviation in the same flight, instructor role.
Fred soloed more than 500 U.S. Army students during his 27 years of flight instruction and amassed more than 10,000 accident and incident free hours in the TH55A aircraft. His student was the final student to complete the Primary Helicopter Training Program in the TH55A aircraft. Then he retired. After his retirement, Vernon continued his lifelong relationship with aviation through frequent flights in his Cessna 120 airplane and attendance at air shows and aviation gatherings throughout
the south. He flew his last flight in July 2002 with his son Fred G. Vernon at Blackwell Field in Ozark. This completed more than 50 years of active flying.

Vernon of Vail, Colo., and Timothy J. and Teresa Vernon of Ozark; four sisters, Dorothy Mullen of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Helen VaVerka of Santa Monica, Calif., Jean Wehrheim of Vincerlnes, Ind., and Frances Meziere of LaHabra, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Nancy Ruth Davis Hagler, 96, of Ozark died Tuesday evening, Sept. 10, 2002, at Ozark Nursing Facility following an extended illness.

Mrs. Hagler was born July 9, 1906, in Barbour County, but lived most of her life in Dale County. She was a member of the Ozark First Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jackson and Epsy Ann Davis; her husband, Cleveland Jackson Hagler; five brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Peggy H. Gunter of Ozark, and Helen H. and L.H. Weeks of Ozark; three grandchildren, Shannon Gunter Harris of Skipperville, Keith Lee Gunter of Ozark, and Alisa Simmons Jackson of Dothan; one great-grandson, Matthew Cole Maund of Dothan; and several nieces and nephews.
