Mrs. Gudruri A. "Candy" Sleeper, 62 of Ozark, died Thursday morning, April 3, 2003, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6 at Holman Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Michael Thomas officiating. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at. Holman Funeral Home, 995 S. Union Ave., Ozark.
Mrs. Sleeper was born and raised in Germany. She moved to the United States in 1966, attended Post Chapel at Fort Rucker and enjoyed gardening. She worked with Little Caesars at K-Mart unit it closed last year.
Survivors include her husband, Theodore Sleeper of Ozark; two sons, Norman V. Sleeper of Ozark and Christian Sleeper of Ariton; one sister, Gudhin Para and her husband, Marcel, of Paris, France; one brother, Volker Stelzer and his wife, Heidi, of Munich, Germany; one granddaughter, Crystal Sleeper of Ozark; one grandson, Norman Sleeper, of Dothan.
Mrs. Isamae Hobdy, 76 of Ozark, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at Dale Medical Center in Ozark.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 4 at Greater Sardis Missionary Baptist Church, Reynolds Street, Ozark, with the Pastor Rev. S.C. Hudson and the Rev. Washington R. Virgil officiating. Burial will be at Westside Cemetery. A family hour will be 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Trawick Funeral Home.
Mr. Shellie P. McKnight, 81 of 328 Merry Dell Dr., Ozark, died Saturday afternoon, March 29, 2003, at his home following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2003, in Holman Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Randall Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Newton City Cemetery with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.
Mr. McKnight was a native of Dale County and was the assistant postmaster in Newton. Mr. McKnight was in the insurance industry for 30 years and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Pat McKnight, Ozark; seven sons, Justin McKnight and Jonathan McKnight of Ozark; David McKnight and his wife, Lanis, of Malvern; Ronnie McKnight of Dothan; Jackie McKnight of Level Plains; Mike McKnight and his wife Rene, of Phenix City; Mark McKnight and his wife, April, of Headland; two sisters, Annette Stewart and Louise Holmes; seven Grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Glenn F. Powers, 94 of the Ewell Community, died Friday evening, March 28, 2003, at Ozark Nursing Facility following a long illness.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, March 30 at Chalkhead Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy West, the Rev. Ron Jackson and the Rev. Thaxton Whiddon officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to service time Sunday. Mr. Powers was a native and lifelong resident of the Ewell community, a farmer and a member and deacon at Chalkhead Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Eldessa Phillips and her husband, Ralph, of Skipperville, Sharon Enfinger and her husband, Jerald, of Midland City, Emily Maheu of Niceville, Fla., and Cathy Williams and her husband, Fred, of Midland City; two sons, ]ohn Foster Powers of Atlanta, Ga., and Stanford Powers and his wife, Sherrie, Ozark; 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Nell Enfinger, 83 and a resident of Ozark Nursing Facility, died Tuesday morning, March 25, 2003, at Dale Medical Center following a long illness.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 27 at Hillcrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Isom Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Carroll Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 26 at Holman Funeral Home of Ozark and one hour prior to service time Thursday at the church.
Mrs. Enfinger was a native of Coffee County living in Dale County all of her adult life and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her hus band Ellis Enfinger; and her parents James "Bob" and Prillie Stewart.
Survivors include two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bruce and Johnnie Stewart of Ozark, Leonard E. and Emily L. Stewart of Algood, Tenn.; one sister Myrl Crow of Decatur; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. James Tyson Baker, 52 of Ozark, died Monday evening, March 24, 2003, at his home.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 26 with family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at Holman Funeral Home, 995 South Union Avenue, Ozark, 334-774-5348.
Mr. Baker was a native of Dale County. He was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Baker.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Myrtice Williams Baker of Ozark; two sisters, Peggy Nelson of Daleville, and Pat Paris of Ozark; two brothers, Eddie Carroll Baker of Ozark, and Dewey Baker of Ozark.
Mr. Ray Benjamin Parrish, 60 of Ozark, died Sunday morning, March 23, 2003, in Flowers Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at Daleville First United Methodist Church with the Reverend John McCullough officiating, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. Visitation will be at Daleville First United Methodist Church following the service on Tuesday, with the family receiving friends during this time. At other times the family will be at the family home, 599 Parker Hills Drive in Ozark.
Mr. Parrish was preceded in death by his parents, Wilma Chalker Parrish and Ray Dalton Parrish.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis "George" Parrish, Ozark, two daughters and one son-in-law, Julie and Sanghan Kim, Suwanee, Georgia, and Oryana Dawn Parrish, Wicksburg, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Clay Parrish, Flowey Branch, Georgia, and Chris and Liz Parrish, Buford, Georgia, his Mother-in-law and Father-in-law, Margaret and Frank Shirah, Level Plains, three sisters, Mable P. Hatfield, Dothan, Mary Ann and Louie Jenkins, Dothan, Bettie Davis, Enterprise, two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Wynell and Braxton Hussey, Enterprise, and Wavene and James Stansbery, Midland City, five grandchildren, Taylor and Austin Hamby, Lauren "Dani" and Carling "Nique" Parrish, Samantha "Sam" Lantz, several nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Mr. Larry Stephens, 61 of Ozark, died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at his residence.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 24 at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home Chapel vith Dr. Charles Gann and the Rev. Randall Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 23 at the funeral home.
Mr. Stephens was a native and lifelong resident of Dale County. He was a member of Manna Christian Center. He worked for Van Heusen for 27 years and Bra-Coe Sportswear in Troy for 10 years as a machine mechanic.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvie D. Stephens and Flora P. Stephens; one brother, Johnny J. Stephens; and one sister, Myra Creel.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lemerle Stephens of Ozark; two daughters, Olivia Dill and her husband, Charlie of Ozark, Laura Dutill and her husband, Edward of Dothan; one son, Dwain Stephens and his wife, Donna of Ozark; three sisters, Martha Thompson of Ozark, Myrl Woodham of Echo, Sharon McNeal of Dothan; one brother, J.D. Stephens of Ypsilanti, Mich.; mother-in-law, Dona Faulk Giles of Ozark; and 11 grandchildren.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Inez Deloney Sport, 89 of Ozark, died Wednesday evening, March 19, 2003, at Ozark Nursing Facility.

Mrs. Sport was a native and lifelong resident of Ozark, where she was a member of Ozark Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Sport.
Survivors include one son, William M. "Bill" Sport of Alexandria, Va.; one daughter-in-law, Alicia Sport of Hampton, Va.; three sisters, Merle Johnson of Sand Destin, Fla., Ruth Ezell of Ozark, and Evelyn Coleman of Bolder City, Nev.; two grandsons, Kevin Sport of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Kyle Sport of Richmond, Va.
Mr. W.F. "Bill" Faust, 77 of North Union Avenue, Ozark, died Tuesday evening, March 18, 2003. He was 77.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 21 at Woodlawn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Wayne Helms officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holman Funeral Home. Mr. Faust was a native of Ozark. He served in the United States Navy and in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater on the USS Tennessee. He taught at Emory University and Cobb County High School, moving back to Ozark in the early 1960s. He taught at Dale County High School for more than 20 years, retiring in the 1980s. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, looking after his farm, forestry. He was the author of the book "Fishing the Gulf Coastal Streams". He was an avid exerciser, walking every morning and evening.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Bryan Faust.
Survivors include his sister, Sue Hollis of Scottsboro; one nephew, Michael Hollis and his wife, Janet of Huntsville.
Mr. Henderson Johnson, 75 of Ozark died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Dale Medical Center in Ozark.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22 at . First Missionary Baptist Church on East Andrews Avenue, Ozark, with Dr. S.C. Jackson, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be at Travelers Rest Cemetery. Trawick Funeral Home of Ozark, 334-774-8374, is in charge of arrangements.
David Leonard Spears, (Retired Command Sgt. Maj., U.S. Army) 66 and a resident of Newton, died early Wednesday morning, March 19, 2003, at his residence.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2003, at The Chapel of the Wings in Fort Rucker, Ala., with Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Don Thrasher officiating. Graveside services with full military honors will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 21 at Sunset Memorial Park. Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, P.O. Mr. Spears was born Aug. 21, 1936, in Tallapoosa County, Ala.., the son of Percie H. Spears and Sadie B. Spears and lived the early years of his life there. He attended Auburn High School and later enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served three tours in Vietnam and retired as a command sergeant major in 1986 after 35 years of military service. After his retirement, he was employed with DynCorp for 10 years. Mr. Spears was a member of the VFW where he served as a past commander.
Mr. Spears was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Kai Spears.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Spears of Newton; two sons, Paul David Spears of Dothan, John Ross Spears of Newton; a granddaughter, Wendy Spears of Valley; three sisters, Helen Hood and her husband, Roy of Opelika, Lurline Aaron and her husband, Andrew of Valley, Sara Pitts of Dadeville; a number of nieces arid nephews also survive.
Frank Mizelle (Mott) Eich, 88 of Vickrey Drive, Abbeville, died Thursday, March 13, 2003, in the Ozark Nursing Facility following a short illness.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15 at Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with the Revs. Ernest M. Andress and Ray Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Abbeville Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Eich was born and reared in Fort Davis, Ala., the son of the late Wilbur Foster Eich, Sr. and Frankie J. Eich. He attended Troy State University on a football scholarship and received a degree from Massey Business College. As a young man, Mr. Eich helped run the family farm in Ft. Davis and worked in his father s general store. In later years, he worked as a banker in Tuskegee, Ala., and also sold Liberty National/Brown Service Insurance in Opelika and Dothan, Ala. until opening
Mott's 5c, l0c & 25c Variety Store in Abbeville in 1954. Having found his career in life, Mr. Eich later bought V.J. Elmore Store in Abbeville and opened a third store in Fort Gaines, Ga. He operated the three stores with his wife, Cat, until their retirement in 1977.
Mr. Eich was a former member of Abbeville Kiwanis Club and Abbeville Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Abbeville United Methodist Church where he served as church treasurer and on the Board of Stewards for many years and later served as an honorary member on the Board of Stewards. Mr, Eich was also a member of Greater Years Group. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Eich was preceded in death by his wife, Cathryn Carter (Cat) Eich; a sister, Catherine E. Moran; and also two brothers, Wilbur F. Eich Jr. and Henry V. Eich.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Susan Sowell and her husband, Dan Sowell of Ozark; two granddaughters, Dana Alums and her husband, Stacy Alums of Ozark; Nancy Kay Watson and her husband Major Gil Watson of Fort Leavenworth, Kan.; two great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Suzanne Watson and Joshua Tanner Watson; a brother, Benjamin J. Eich of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister-in-law, Louise C. Ford of Columbus, Ga.; several nieces and nephews; his special friend
and companion, Rover.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Lester Killebrew, Jimmy Rane, Wayne Armstrong, Robert Donald Beasley, Chris Mathison, Bill Armstrong, Don Skipper, GreB Rane, and Dickie Clark.
Mrs. Evelyn Gladys Payne, 79 of Dothan, died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 16 at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. The Rev. Pam Freeman will officiate. Burial will follow at Skipperville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Payne was a lifelong resident of Skipperville and a member of Skipperville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Payne, and a daughter, Cathy Thompson of Tifton, Ga.
Survivors include three daughters Betty Payne of Dothan, Glenda Williams and her husband, Wesley of Dothan, Dorothy Pusateri and her husband, Bob of Ozark; 12 grandchildren, Shari White of New Jersey, Sindy Summers of Tifton, Ga., Carol Innes of Tifton, Ga., Stacy Stout of Tifton, Ga., Rhett Bennett of New Brockton, Kelly Bennett of St. Louis, Mo., Tara Duke of Ozark, Amy Williams of Dothan, Kimberly Williams of Dothan, Wesley Williams of Dothan, Brandon Miller of Ozark, Morgan Hanks of Webb; and 10 great-grandchildren.
