Col. (Retired) Joseph S. Johnson, 81 of Ozark, died Friday, March 5, 2004 in Dothan following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday March 8, 2004 at Ozark Church of Christ with Minister Glen VanZandt, Minister Rex Turner, Jr., and Mr. Steve Foster officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery with full Military Honors. The family will receive friends at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark from 3 until 5 p.m. this afternoon. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Monday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to

LT. COL. (Retired) Johnson was a native of Ozark where he was an active member of the Ozark Church of Christ. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a B-24 Pilot, flying 31 combat missions. He retired from the Army in 1964 following 23 years of service. He then worked with Civil Service at Fort Rucker for 18 years. He served on the Board of Regents of Southern Christian University in Montgomery. Lt. Col. Johnson loved gardening and his farms in Daleville and Ozark where he raised Polled Hereford Cattle.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela Johnson; and two brothers, Henry Johnson and Al Johnson.
Survivors include his wife, Pattie B. Johnson, Ozark; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patty Joe Shaw and her husband, Mike, Omaha, Neb., Peggy J. Bailey and her husband, Don, Atlanta, Nancy J. Foster and her husband, Steve, Fort Deposit, Ala.; four grandchildren, Rebecca Foster, Tray Foster, Alison Shaw, and Blair J. Bailey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kameron Dee (Wermer) Weaver passed away in his 'Mommy and Daddy's arms Monday morning March 1, 2004 at Children's Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.
Funeral services will be held at Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home; Thursday March 4, 2004 at 2 p.m. Bro: Al Norris will be officiating. A short graveside service will be held at Crestlawn Cemetery in Avon. The family will 'be receiving friend5. from 6 to 8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home. The family will be accepting visitors at 97 Penny Point in Ozark or 2752 South County Rd 59 in Taylor. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a memorial contribution in honor of
Kameron to the Children's Hospital; 1600 Seventh Ave. S., Birmingham, AL, 35233. They are such wonderful and caring people. We could not have made it this far without their tireless devotion.
Kameron Dee (Wermer) Weaver was born Dec. 4, 2003 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, He was a ray of light God blessed us with for such a short time. He touched anyone's heart that looked at him, and everyone loved him dearly: He is now an angel in Heaven watching over us.
He is survived by his parents Patricia Wermer and Russel Weaver of Taylor, Ala.; great-grandparents; Patrick and Jean Donahue of Enterprise, Ala.; great-grandmother, Ester Holcombe of Holly Pond, Ala.; grandmother Vicki Blackman and husband Jimmy of Ozark, Ala.; grandfather, Matthew Wermer and wife Fran of Tennessee; grandparents, Walter and Linda Weaver of Taylor, Ala.; aunts, Taylor and Tiffany Whittington, Tracy Blackman all of Ozark, Ala., and Cynthia King of Taylor, Ala; uncles, Bo Blackman, Doug Blackman, and Neal Wermer all of Ozark, Ala.; several great-aunts and uncles; and cousins.
The family would like to thank the Towns of Taylor and Ozark for the prayers and support during this time of need.

Mrs. Lillie Pearl Averett, 92 of Ozark, passed away Sunday, February 29, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2004, from Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Guy Causey officiating. Interment will follow in Level Plains Baptist Church Cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m.
Mrs. Averett was born in Dale County, Alabama, on September 5, 1911, the daughter of the late Daniel Moses Windham and Susie Treadaway Windham. She was a loving mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Averett, and her sister, Myrtle Rogers.
She is survived by her daughter, Sue Beverett, of Midland City; grandchildren, Randy Beverett and Elaine Rogers, both of Midland City; and great-grandchildren, Chely Beverett, Allison Rogers and Trevor Rogers.

Mrs. Bettie Jo Elmore, 51 of 68 North County Road 67, Newville, Ala. (Echo community), died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004 at Flowers Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 29, at Bethel United Methodist Church in Echo, Ala. with Dr. Billy D. Gaither officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 until 3 on Sunday afternoon. At other times, the family will be at the family residence in the Echo community.
Mrs. Elmore was born Feb. 10, 1953 in Geneva County to the late Crawford and Beulah Lee (Yeomans) Greathouse. She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church. She had lived in Echo for the past 15 years.
Survivors include her husband, Ronnie Joe Elmore of Newville; two daughters and one son-in-law, Tracey Enfinger and her husband, Ken of Skipperville, Tara Harmon; four brothers and two sisters-in-law Kenneth Greathouse and his wife, LuAnn of Dothan, Billy Joe Greathouse of Slocomb, Joe Michael Greathouse of Mississippi, Thomas Greathouse and his wife, Dawn of Pinckard; four sisters and three brothers-in-law Mary Ann Moore and her husband, Don of Panama City
FL, Jo Ann Butler and her husband, Harold of Slocomb, Brenda Smith of Hartford, Ann Lawrence and her husband, Terry of Meri Ester, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Jamie McNelley Jeremy McNelley Cody Enfinger, Kendra Enfinger, Dylan Enfinger, Shae Williamson, Kelsey Harmon; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Colby Lance Cotton, age 20, of Ozark died in an automobile accident near Mobile, Tuesday, February 24, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 29, 2004, from the Chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark with Reverend Tom Lovely officiating. Visitation will be from the Funeral Home Chapel Saturday from 6- 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions to Cornerstone Fellowship Church Building Fund, 591 S. Union Avenue, Ozark, AL 36360.
Mr. Cotton was a native of Ozark having graduated from Harvest Christian School in 2001. He entered the US Army in 2001, attended Military Police School Training at Fort Benning, Georgia and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Meade, Maryland. He was called to Maxwell Air Force Base for active duty with the Squadron Police Company. His plans were to continue his education at Auburn upon processing out of the military in October, 2004.
Colby was a bright and wonderful, adventurous young man, who had a will to see the brighter side of life. He loved to live and he loved to laugh. To all who knew Colby, he was a friend; and to those who loved Colby, he was "unforgettable". Colby, in his short life, left a testimony for those to carry on. Son, until we meet again, we love you more than life!
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Benjamin Honaker; and his uncle, Jeff Honaker.
Survivors include his mother, Reverend Robin Morris and her husband, Kody Morris, of Ozark, AL; father, Larry Cotton, of Ozark, AL; maternal grandmother, Shirley Honaker, of Ozark, AL; paternal grandparents, Randolph and Ruby Cotton, of Ozark, AL; sisters: Jeninifer Huseby and Lenze Morris; aunts and uncles: Cheryl Cotton, Daryl Cotton, Mike & Debbie Cotton, Ronnie Cotton, Mark & Harriet Honaker, and Tammy & Clint Fayard; cousins: Sara Cotton, Jeffery McCartha, Ashley Fayard, Lacey Fayard, and Kelley Honaker; and many many dear friends.

Mrs. Irene Sims Paramore, 76 of Ozark, died Monday Feb. 23, 2004 at her home following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday Feb. 26, 2004 at Hillcrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Isom Hill officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark from 5 until 7 Wednesday evening. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Thursday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 246 Church Ave., Ozark, AL, 36360.
Mrs. Paramore was a native and life-long resident of Ozark where she worked at Carroll High School in the lunchroom until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, and enjoyed working as a "Pink Lady" at Dale Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary L. Childree Sims and George Cleveland Sims; her husband, Lester Paramore; her daughter Barbara Paramore Bradshaw; and her son, Greg Paramore.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Clarence Smith, Dothan, Pat and Willie Whittington, Birmingham, Ala.; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Caroleigh Paramore, Jackson Miss.; and seven grandsons who will serve as pallbearers, Jeff Gage, Keith Gage, David Cook James Whittington, Kevin Whittington, Paul Paramore, and Spencer Paramore; three granddaughters, Paula Bond and her husband, Tim, Sherry Bradshaw and Carrie Paramore; four great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law Jerry and Joe Davis, Port St: Lucie, Fla.; a special niece, Evelyn Ross, Perry Fla.; and special friends, Bob and Edna Bayne, Ozark, Ala.
The "Pink Ladies" of Dale Medical Center will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Belvie Sullivant Sanders, 89 of South Union Ave., Ozark, died Monday afternoon, Feb. 23, 2004 in Flowers Hospital, Dothan, Ala.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004 from Stonebridge Church of God with Rev. Floyd Ingram and Rev. GE:orge Ellison officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Cemetery Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday with family receiving friends from 6 until 8 p.m.
Mrs. Sanders was born March 22, 1914 in Dale County, Ala. the daughter of the late Rowe Sullivant and Mattie Caraway Sullivant. She was a member of Stonebridge Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Sanders; a daughter, Mary Fish; a son & daughter-in-law, Ozen & Lucille Sanders; a sister, Vermal Smith; and five brothers, Arthur, Earnest, Blonnie, Bobby and Orbie Sanders.
She is survived by four daughters & sons-in-law, Martha L. & Alvin Loper of Ozark, Ala., Judy & Barry Lawrence of Echo, Ala., Ruby J. & Don Howell of Ozark, Ala., Linda & Jim Hopper of Salisbury, N.C.; one son & daughter-in-law: Ed & Glenda Sanders of Ozark, Ala.; one sister Ida Belle Sanders, of Panama City, Fla.; 24 grandchildren 33 great-grand-children; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Mikie Walding, 62 and a resident of Midland City died Sunday night, February 22, 2004 at Flowers Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday; February 25, 2004, at Midland City United Methodist Church with Reverend Gillis Crenshaw officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church prior to service time. Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Midland City United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 376, Midland City, Alabama, 36350.
Mr. Walding was born December 16, 1941, in Dale County and lived in Midland City all of his life. He has served Midland City as councilman and mayor for 16 years.
Mr. Walding has been engaged in the home building industry since 1963 and owned Mikie Walding Construction and Realty Company. He was a member of the Midland City United Methodist Church, Midland City Masonic Lodge and was a shriner.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Walding, Midland City; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mikie Walding Jr. and his wife, Janet, Mark Walding and his wife, Kim, all of Midland City; grandchildren, Micheal Walding, Halie Walding, Mason Walding, Kacie Walding and Maegan Walding; two brothers, Joe Walding, Midland City, Kenny Walding, Headland; a sisters, Linda Faye Parker, Midland City; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Ronnie Williams, Lamar Galloway, David Lingo, Kevin Walding, Joey Walding and Jeff Walding.
Mr. Buddy Stapleton will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Mr. Eugene M. Carroll, 81 of Deese Road, Ozark, died early Saturday morning, Feb. 21, 2004 at his home.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23 2004 at the First United Methodist Church of Ozark with Rev. Joe Reams, and Rev. Marty Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Feb. 22, 2004. The body will be placed in the church one hour Prior to service time on Monday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 167 East Broad Street, Ozark, AL, 36360.
Mr. Carroll was a native of the Post Oak Community of Ozark, and a Veteran of World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was a member of its association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans, the First United Methodist Church, and the John Wesley Sunday school class. Mr. Carroll retired from M. O. Carroll Grocery Company in Ozark after 32 years in 1985.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Goss Carroll of Ozark; his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. David and Carole Carroll of Northport, Ala.; grandchildren, Amanda and her husband, John Barnes of Austin, Texas and Austin David Carroll of Northport, Ala.; and his great-grandson, Joseph Carroll Barnes of Austin, Texas.

Mr. John H. Ferguson, Sr., 77 of Dean Church Road, Ozark, died early Saturday morning, February 21, 2004 at his home following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Tuesday, February 24, 2004, in Holman Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Charles Goldsmith officiating. Interment will follow in Campground Baptist Church Cemetery with full Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P. M. Monday evening.
Mr. Ferguson was a native of Tennessee having lived in various locations while serving in the United States Army for 22 years. He was an instructor of history at the Alabama Aviation School in Ozark and was an aviation instructor at Fort Rucker. He attended Logan Road Baptist Church and was a member of Campground Baptist Church, a Shriner, and member of Dothan Masonic Lodge #659. Mr. Ferguson loved to hunt and fish.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren and one sister.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Loree Ferguson, Ozark, five daughters and sons-in-law, Janice Faye and James Gilland, Houma, LA; Bonnie and Al Gibbs, Abbeville, AL; Brenda Jean Ferguson, Cullman, AL; Mary Elizabeth and James Ivey, Daleville, AL; Charlotte Ann and Steven Cusic, Port Charlotte, FL, two sons and daughters-in-law, John H. and Tina Ferguson, Jr., Ozark, AL; Bobby Bryant and Susie Ferguson, Morgan City, LA; one brother and sister-in-law, B. J. and Ann
Ferguson, Columbia, TN; l8 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Logan Road Baptist Church, 3955 Will Logan Road, Ozark, Alabama 36360, or to Campground Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3898 East Andrews Avenue, Ozark, Alabama 36360.

Mary Lou Arnold, 74 years of age and a 20 year resident of Clio, Ala., passed away Friday Feb. 20, 2004.
Services for Mary Lou will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mixon School Road, Ozark, Ala. on Monday, Feb. 23, 2004 at 3:00 p.m., preceded by a viewing at 2:00 p.m. in honor of Mary Lou's life of service and in lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints perpetual Education Fund. The Fund provides educational opportunities to students from developing countries.
She is survived by Alton Arnold, her husband of 57 years; four of her five children, 24 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Mary Lou dedicated her life to service. After raising her children she returned to school to complete her education in speech therapy at Auburn University at the age of 51. After graduating with honors she taught with love and devotion for 11 years in the Barbour County School District. Mary Lou also loved her community and served as the Secretary of the Chitlin Jamboree for six years. Her service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was extensive including work with the youth and young adults. Mary Lou was a world traveler and believed that service should extend beyond the local community. She played an active role in making quilts, toys, and providing financial support to those less fortunate around the world. Her beautiful cross stitch and quilting brought joy to friends and family. Mary Lou will be remembered fondly by those she served and loved.

Mr. Harris L. Charles, 77 of Ozark, died Friday Feb. 20, 2004 at Ozark Nursing Facility.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2004 from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Peters officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. with family receiving friends during these hours. Flowers will be accepted or memorials to your favorite charity.
Mr. Charles was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He retired from Civil Service at Ft. Rucker; Ala. and worked for three years at George C. Wallace Community College.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gurney & Myrtle Harris and one brother Hugh Charles.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Merle Charles, of Ozark, Ala.; sister Joy Shepard of West Palm Beach, Fla.; granddaughter Shannon Searcy and her husband, Allen, of Ozark, Ala.; and two great-grandchildren, Collin Searcy and Olivia Searcy.
