Mr. William "Little Bill" Strother Jr., 39 of Ozark, passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2004 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at the Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Zion Church with the Rev Joseph Ellington III officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery . They family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 3-5 p.m.
Mr. Strother was affectionately known by his family and friends as "Little Bill." He was a devoted father to his children and a true friend who would do anything he could to help others. He was a 1984 graduate of Carroll High School in Ozark
and was employed with Ozark Striping Company.
Mr. Strother was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Dominga V Strother.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Cashelia S. Strother; son, William Jamal Strother; and their mother, Charlene Gissendanner; his father and stepmother William F. Strother Sr. and Elvia Strother; two brothers, Mark Strother and Frank Strother; special friends, Dorothy Gissendanner and Dionne Stanford; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mr. William Ellis "Billy" Patrick, 77 of Ariton, Ala., died Tuesday morning, Dec. 7, 2004, in the Ozark Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday Dec. 9, 2004, from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at graveside. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 tonight, Dec. 8, 2004, from the funeral home. Mr. Patrick was retired from the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, N.E. "Elmer" Patrick and Willie McGill Patrick; and one brother, Joe Patrick.

Mrs. Barbara Ann Peters Elmore, 41 of Ozark, Ala., died Sunday evening, Dec: 5, 2004, in Dale Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today, Dec. 7, 2004, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. William Hart and the Rev. Isom Hill officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to ser- vice time today. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in her memory to the American Diabetics Association, P.O. Box 1012, Wetumpka, AL 36092.
Mrs. Elmore was born July 5, 1963, in Ozark, Ala., and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She worked with Oakview Manor Nursing Facility until becoming disabled and became a resident there. During her stay there she became an avid domino player.
She was preceded in death by one son, Brandon Hinson; and her father, Wyatt Peters.
Survivors include one daughter, Brandy Hinson and her fiancé, John Rogers, Demopolis, Ala.; her mother, Grace Peters, Ozark, Ala.; two sisters, Kathy Johnson and Brenda Hoage, Ozark, Ala.; three brothers, Glenn Peters, the Rev. Harold Peters, and Edwin Peters, all of Ozark, Ala.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Chandler, Dr. Cromer-Tyler, Dr. Kesserwani, Dr. Sy and all of the second floor and ICU staff at Dale Medical Center during her extended illness. Also, thank you to the Oakview Manor staff for making it a home for her.

Ms. Diane Bowman Hall, 62 of Ozark, Ala., passed away Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with the Rev. Floyd Ingram and the Rev. Jim Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight, Dec. 7, 2004, at the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home.
Ms. Hall was a native and lifelong resident of Dale County, Ala. She was a graduate of Carroll High School. Ms. Hall retired from General Telephone Company. She was member of Stonebridge Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bennie L. Bowman.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, DeLana and Chris Woodard, of Ozark, Ala.; mother, Aline Bowman, of Ozark, Ala.; one brother and sister-in-law, Billy Wayne and Sara Bowman, of Ozark, Ala.; and two grandchildren, Madalyn Woodard and Brittany Woodard.

Frank Coleman, 75 of Ozark, Ala., passed away Sunday afternoon, Dec. 5, 2004, at his residence.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday Dec. 8, 2004,. at 2 p.m. at the Manna Christian Center in Ozark with Dr. Charles Gann officiating.
Mr. Coleman was born June 15, 1929, in Pittsburgh, Pa., and resided there until moving to Ozark, Ala., in 1976. He was retired from the U.S. Army and a veteran of World War II, having served four tours in Vietnam.
Mr. Coleman is survived by his wife, Debra Coleman, Ozark, Ala.; two sons, Tony Coleman, Las Vegas, and Ron Coleman, Pittsburgh; one grandson, Eric Coleman; two brothers-in-law, Junior and Paul Watson, both of Ozark, Ala.; five sisters-in-law, Kathy Wells, Faye Hickman, Linda Johnson, Kim Speller and Sara Chadwick, all of Ozark, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.

Sam Henry Brew, 78 of Ozark, died Dec. 4, 2004, at Dale Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at 1 p.m. at Saint Mark A.M.E. Zion Church in Ozark, Ala., with the Rev. Cammack officiating. Viewing of the remains will begin at 2:30 p.m. today, Dec. 7, 2004, and family hour will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lewis and Lewis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Sam H. Brew to the Saint Mark A.M.E. Zion Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 2374, Ozark, AL.
He was the seventh child of the late Edward and Millie Smith Brew of Lynchburg, Va., (Campbell County) born on March 22, 1926. Thirteen siblings completed this happy family circle, including four other children (nieces and nephews) raised as brothers and sisters in the Brew family. After graduating from Rushburg High School in Rushburg, Va., he moved to Washington, D.C. He was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1944. While in the Army he continued his education and graduated with honors from the Dental and Medical Technical School at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. He worked as a surgical technician in the U.S. Army. In 1952, he was joined in holy matrimony to Smithie L. Matthews, the love of his life. Brother Brew was stationed at Fort Rucker, Ala., for several years, retiring from active duty in 1966. He received an honorable discharge. He worked for the Department of the Army Civil Service for 20 years at Fort Rucker. His military career included assignments at Fort Deven, Mass., Fort Dix, N.J., Fort Mead, Md., Fort Braggˇ N.C., Camp Kilmer, N.J., Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and White Plains, N.J. His overseas assignments included France, Germany (twice), the Philippines, Korea, Japan, England, Spain and Africa.
Sam was an active member of Saint Mark A.M.E. Zion Church. He had served in the following positions: Peacher, Steward, including being honored in 2003 as "Preacher Steward of the Year" in the Alabama-Florida Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, chairman of the Trustee Board, superintendent of the Sunday school, Sunday school teacher, class leader, member of the male choir, honorary life member of the Missionary Society, member of the Lay Council, an active member of Euclid Lodge No. 68, P.H.A. and a member of the Alabama Democratic Conference. He spent his time reading, gardening and was known throughout the community as "Mr. Fix-lt," "Uncle Sammy " "Sam" and "Brother Brew." He gave a lot of his time helping people by repairing their homes and doing other jobs for them.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Smithie M. Brew; son, Samuel D. Brew of Ozark, Ala.; grandson, Samuel D. Brew Jr. and granddaughter, Nikki of Atlanta; three brothers, Robert, Bill, and C.B. Brew (Sandy) of Lynchburg, Va.; three sisters, Bessie Dennis and Mildred Smith of Washington, D.C., and Lucy Par- sons of Lynchburg, Va.; and three sisters-in-law, Hazel Turner, Bettye Thompson, Nancy McFarlin of Ozark, Ala.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mr. Forrest Leatherwood, 83 of Ozark, Ala., died Friday morning, Dec. 3, 2004, in Dale Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday Dec. 5, 2004, at Hillcrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Isom Hill and the Rev. W. L. Sheffield officiating. Private interment for extended family will follow in Carroll Cemetery. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark, Ala., from 6 to 8 tonight. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Sunday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 246 Church Ave., Ozark, AL 36360.
Mr. Leatherwood was born Oct. 17, 1921, the third child of the late Irene Sally Bludsworth Leatherwood and Thomas Harrison Leatherwood. He moved to Dale County at an early age where he was a long-time member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He retired from his service in the United States Air National Guard and worked with various civilian maintenance contractors at Fort Rucker for 31 years, retiring in 1986. Mr. Leatherwood was currently working with Wal-Mart in Ozark as a greeter, where he enjoyed meeting and talking with everyone there; he never met a stranger. He made many friends throughout. his lifetime and had a wonderful sense of humor. He will be remembered for his quick wit and jovial personality. He loved entertaining friends and family with a joke and dance to his own tune. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and especially family gatherings. He will be missed by his many friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Vernon Leatherwood; and one brother, Donald Ray Leatherwood.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mable Leatherwood, Ozark, Ala.; two daughters, Anita Griffith, Daphne, Ala., and Dawn Bradshaw and her husband, Vann, Geneva, Ala.; two sons, David Leatherwood and his wife, Libby, Ozark, Ala., and Colon Leatherwood and his wife, Becky Ozark, Ala.; two sisters, Mattie Earle Bruner, Ozark, and Hazel Free, Daytona, Fla.; five brothers, Aubrey Leatherwood and his wife, Kathleen, Max Leatherwood, Roy Leatherwood, all of Ozark, Ala., Kenneth Leatherwood, Conyers, Ga., and Charles Leatherwood, Dublin, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Mary Emma Blackman Lisenby, 88 and a resident of Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Center and a longtime resident of Ozark, Ala., died late Thursday Dec. 2, 2004, following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday Dec. .5, 2004, in the chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Dr. Thomas A. Leggett Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Center Ridge Cemetery in Ariton, Ala. The family will receive friends at Holman Funeral Home in Ozark from 4 until 6 p.m. this afternoon, Dec. 4, 2004. At other times the family will be at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Jackie Heath, 2315 East County Road 36, Ozark. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in her memory to Center Ridge Cemetery Fund, c/o Mr. Jeff Johnston, 4789 North Hwy 123, Ariton, AL 36311, or Westview Heights United Methodist Church, PO. Box 1045, Ozark, AL 36361.
Born on July 15, 1916, Mrs. Lisenby lived all of her life in the surrounding area. She was the daughter of the late James Henry Blackman and the late Elizabeth Helms Blackman. She married James Paul Lisenby on Dec. 23, 1939. They were married 41 years upon his death in August 1975. She worked for several years at Dale County Hospital and worked until the age of 75 at Whaley's Department Store on the Square in Ozark. She and her husband were very involved in Sacred Heart Singing, and was a long-time member of Westview Heights United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; seven sisters and four brothers.
Surviving relatives include, five daughters, Larry and Gaynelle Mixon, Ozark, Ala., Robert and Gayle Kelley, Enterprise, Ala., Jackie and Paula Heath, Ozark, Ala., Vince and Beth Fresquez, El Paso, Texas, and Teri Parker, Ozark, Ala.; seven granddaughters, Frank and Janet Butler, Enterprise, Ala., Andy and Brooke Grantham Kogutz, Midland City, Ala., James and Shannon Robertson, Dothan, David and Robyn Ridgeway, Newnan, Ga., Brandy Heath and Scarlett Butler Ozark, Ala., Ellie and Amy Parker, Ozark, Ala.; two grandsons, Mike and Becky Mixon, Ozark, Ala., and Christopher Fresquez, Austin, Texas; eight great-grandchildren, Emma and Brennen Grantham, Meaghan Densel, Justin, Austin, and Katie Ann Mixon, Jackson and Conlan Ridgeway; and several nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Mike Mixon, Christopher Fresquez, Frank Butler, James Robertson, David Ridgeway, James Earl Kelley, Andy Kogutz and Charles "Buddy" Grantham.

Mr. O'Neal Childree, 76 of Skipperville, Ala. passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 2, 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday Dec. 4, 2004, from the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Nicholson officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home.
Mr. Childree was born Dec. 15, 1927, in Dale County, Ala., son of the late Ray and Sula Childree. He was a lifelong native of Dale County. Mr. Childree retired from DynCorp as an aircraft mechanic after 30 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and fishing until he became disabled. Mr. Childree was an avid domino player who adored and dearly loved his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Nell Childree, of Skipperville, Ala.; three daughters, Margie Whitlock, Martha Rogers, Myra Miller and husband, Larry, all of Ozark, Ala.; two sons, Bobby Childree and wife, Sheilah, of Ozark and Billy Childree and wife, Sonya of Ewell Community; two sisters: Lorene Morgan and Sally Leatherwood, both of Ozark, Ala.; three brothers, Norris Childree and George Childree of Ozark, Ala. and Edgar Childree of Dothan; eight grandchildren, Rodney Carr, Scott Rogers, Brent Rogers, Krissy Sigers, Robert Wayne Childree, Brittany Miller, Kyle Clark, and Katelyn Childree; and three great-grandchildren.

Durward Pershing Cherry, 87 of Newton, Ala., died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. l, 2004, in the Dale Medical Center in Ozark, Ala.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, in the Newton United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Willis and Dr. Jerry M. Dooling officiating. Burial will follow in the Newton City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 tonight at the mortuary in Headland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 232, Newton, AL, 36352.
Mr. Cherry was born and reared in Ariton, Ala., son of the late George Lunsford Cherry and Ellie Elliott Wynn Cherry. He served his country in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Cherry lived in Newton most of his adult lifetime where he was a member of the Newton United Methodist Church. He was retired as an aircraft mechanic at Fort Rucker.
Mr. Cherry was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Cherry; and a sister, Minnie Lou Miller.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Louise Lee Cherry Newton, Ala.; a daughter, Shirley Jo Cherry Williams and her husband, Rhett Williams, Dothan; two grandchildren, Christie Williams Glawson and her husband, Jacob Glawson, Helena, Ala., and Lee Williams, Birmingham, Ala.; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlin Glawson; a sister, Nell Cherry Baker and her husband, Charlie Baker, Ozark, Ala.; a brother-in-law Oscar Lee and his wife, Jean Lee, Dothan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jacob Glawson, Lee Williams, Danny Dell, Billy Outlaw, Shellie Hanks and Robert Horne.

Mrs. Mary Ann Foote, 63 of Newton, Ala., died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, from Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Peter Tilbe officiating. Burial will follow in Morning View Cemetery in Ozark, Ala. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions to Wiregrass Hospice, 1970 E. Andrews Ave., Ozark, AL, 36360.
Mrs. Foote was a member of Newton Baptist Church. She was employed with Dale Medical Center for 25 years before retiring a few months ago.
Mrs. Foote was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Mavourneen Marley Jones; and one daughter, Lauri Byrd.
Survivors include her hus band of 18 years, Murray Foote, of Newton, Ala.; three daughters; Andria Schwegler and husband, Eric, of Klein, Texas, Melinda Mezza and husband, Derrick of Columbia, S.C., and Madison Foote of Newton, Ala; one son, Mike Byrd and wife, Sharron, of Newton, Ala.; stepmother, Beuna (Bunny) Jones of Newton, Ala.; one sister, Jackie Roberts and husband, Paul of Warner Robbins, Ga.; one brother, Russell Jones and wife, Carolyn, of Eufaula, Ala.; and two grandsons, Zack Byrd and Brent Mezza.

Mr. William Earl "Mac" McLendon, 80 of Ozark, Ala., died Monday evening, Nov. 29, 2004, in Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with the Rev. Donald Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004. Memorials may be made in his memory to the National Parkinson's Foundation, 1501 NW 9th Avenue, Miami, FL 33136.
Mr. McLendon was born April 23, 1924, and was married to Merle Parr on March 9, 1942. He was a member of Post Oak Baptist Church where he was a deacon for many years. He retired after working for 25 years with Walter Hand Ford and 25 vears with Dominey Motors, both of Ozark, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Jamie McLendon; two brothers, Bert and Edward McLendon; and one sister, Mary Crews.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Merle Mcl.endon, Ozark, Ala.; one daughter, Linda Ellen Mauser and her husband, Ken, Parrish; Fla.; one son, W. E. McLendon Jr. and his wife, Judy, Ozark, Ala.; two grandsons, Bret Mauser and his wife, Jennifer, Dayton, Ohio and Shawn Mauser and his wife, Arleen, Menomonee Falls, Wis.; one granddaughter, Kim Bell and her husband, Rick, Ozark, Ala.; four great grandchildren, Jacob, Oliver and Emma Mauser, Dayton, Ohio, and Jamie Bell, Ozark, Ala.; four sisters, Claudia Bunch, Ruth Gant, Annette Tilmon, and Shirley Cady, all of South Carolina; two brothers, Lewis McLendon and Kenneth McLendon, both of South Carolina; and a special caregiver, Rosie Johnson, Ozark, Ala.

Mrs. Diana Josette Phillips Strickland, 56 of Ozark, Ala., died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004.
Funeral services were held 2:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in the chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Pastor Roger Campbell officiating. Interment followed in Woodlawn Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made in her memory to the Scleroderma Foundation, Attn.: Donations, 12 Kent Way Suite 101, Byfield, MA 01922.
Mrs. Strickland was a native of Ozark, Ala. She attended G. W. Long, Carroll High School and Wallace College. She was employed with Wal-Mart in Enterprise as Customer Service Supervisor until becoming disabled. She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. Mrs. Strickland loved her Lord with all her heart.
Her father Joseph Webster Phillips, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Regina Rose, Enterprise, Ala. and Dedra Rowell and her husband, Gerald, Ozark, Ala.; two grandsons, Christian Matthew and Jonathan Colby Rowell; mother and stepfather Christine and John Dotson, Ozark, Ala.; one sister, Debra Clark, Ozark, Ala.; two brothers, Joseph Phillips, Dothan and Christopher Phillips, Mobile. Ala.
