Mr. Joe Bean age 67 of Fort Payne, AL passed away Tuesday,
March 27, 2001 at his residence. Mr. Bean was born in
Mississippi of February 1, 1934, son of the late Robert Lankford
and Johnny Parrish Bean. He was a member of Gault Avenue Baptist Church
and a veteran.
Graveside services will be 2pm CST Friday, March 30, 2001 from
Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Ronnie Highfield officiating.

Mr. Preston B. Horton age 82 of Fort Payne, AL passed away Wednesday,
March 28, 2001 in Cullman Hospital. Mr. Horton was born in Dekalb County
November 4, 1918, son of the late G. R. and Minnie Jackson Horton. he was a
member of The Second Baptist Church in Fort Payne, AL and formerly employed
by Kingsberry Home. He was preceded in death by his Wife; Jo Grace Horton
on December 4, 1996
Funeral services will be 11am CST on Saturday, March 31, 2001 at Wilson
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Orien Ledford officiating. Burial will be in

Mrs. Kathleen Hill Whitmire age 81 of Fort Payne, Al passed away Sunday,
March 25, 2001 at the home of her Daughter; Jan W. LeBoeuf on Lookout Mtn.
She was born in Millington, TN.,the daughter of the late Frank M. and Hazel
Anderson Hill. She was living in Fort Payne, AL for the past 56 years where her
late Husband; Dr. Fred C. Whitmire, Sr. practiced dentistry for more than 40 years.
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Payne, AL
Beside her daughter, she is survived by her Son; Dr. Fred C. Whitmire, Jr. of Lookout
Mtn. 6 Grandchildren and 8 Great-Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at 2pm CST at the
First United Methodist Church in Fort Payne, AL with Dr. Mark Lacey officiating.

Lovada Gertrude Wadkins age 76 of Bridgeport, AL passed away Tuesday,
March 20, 2001 at Grandview Medical Center in South Pittsburg, TN.
Mrs. Wadkins was born December 24, 1924 in Dekalb County, AL
daughter of the late Albert and Sally Mashburn Wright. She was retired
from the hosiery industry where she worked as a knitter.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 22, 2001 at 2pm CST from the Wilson
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Edwin Dean officiating. Burial will follow in the

Mr. Grady Lee Price age 89 of Fort Payne, AL passed away Friday, march 16, 2001
at BMC Dekalb Hospital. Mr. Price, a life long resident of Dekalb County, AL
was born January 11, 1912 on Lookout Mtn., son of the late Henery Lee and Ruthie
Estes Price . He was educated in Dekalb County school system, graduated from
Dekalb County High School at the age of 16 and enrolled in Jacksonville State
Teachers College, where he graduated in 1932, with a B. S. in education, majoring
in English. In October of that same year, he married Venna Lee Scott. After Venna's
death he married the late Viola Fannin Price .
Mr. Price was a mule dealer for over 20 years, owned Price and Eberhart Buick
dealership and was a cattle farmer. He was active in the Cattleman's Association,
where he as President of the Dekalb County Cattleman's Association. He was
a member of the Godfrey Avenue Baptist Church, he served as Choir Director
and Treasure and was very active until his health began to fail. He was also
a Mason.
Mr. Price was a great storyteller. Everyone enjoyed so much hearing about his
adventures as a young boy and his life in general. Since his youth, he enjoyed
Sacred harp singing and was for many years, President of the North East Alabama
Sacred harp Singing Convention, which was held for many years in the Old Courthouse.
His favorite song was "Trusting".
He was preceded in death by his Parents; Henry Lee and Ruthie Estes Price ;
Infant Son; Carey Vaughn Price, his first Wife; Venna Lee Scott Price,
his second Wife; Viola Fannin Price, Grandchidren; Carol Cashion Price,
Infant Grandson; Bobby Ray Bohannon and Sister; Verna Price Kuykendall.
Survivors include his Children; Dr. Grady Lee (Judy) Price, Jr. of Ramer, AL
Ava Price (Mitch) Bohannon of Montgomery, AL, and Marcheta Price (Charles)
Loggins of Rome, GA.
Grandchildren; Stephen Lee (Starla) Price, James Milton (Jimmy) Bohannon, Jr.,

March 15, 2001 at her residence. Mrs. Shipp was born February 13, 1928 in Fort Payne,
AL, daughter of the late W. M. L. and Mae Furr McWhorter. She was retired
from the Fort Payne City School System where she worked as a teacher and was a
member of the First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her

Glenwood Cemetery with Dr. Mark Lacey officiating. The family will receive

March 10, 2001 at her residence. She was born February 2, 1950 in Flat Rock, AL
daughter of the late Lester D. and Evelyn Wofford Blevins. She was area manager
of Farm Stores.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at 2pm CST at the
