Cecil V. Lauderdale

86, retired teacher, Moulton

Funeral for Cecil V. Lauderdale, who died Thursday, February 27, 1997, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center in Moulton, was held Saturday, March 1, at Moulton Baptist Church. The 11 a.m. service was officiated by Dr. Darryl Wood.

Burial was in the Forked oak Cemetery in Booneville, Mississippi, with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Lauderdale was born in Prentiss County, Miss., where he was a former teacher, principal and superintendent in the county school system as well. Mr. Lauderdale also helped write the Federal programs in the county office. He was a veteran of World War II and was preceded in death by his wife, Autie Lauderdale.

He is survived by nieces and nephews.

George "G.H." Melson Jr.

80, retired farmer, Moulton

George "G.H." Melson Jr. Died Thursday, February 27, 1997, at National Healthcare in Moulton.

The funeral was held Saturday, March 1, 2 p.m., at Elliott funeral Home with Kyle and Ray McWhorter officiating.

Burial was in the Alexander Cemetery.

He was born in Lawrence County to George Hary Melson Sr. and Nancy McVay Melson.

Mr. Melson is survived by two daughters, Willodean Lorance and Eva Vice, both of Moulton; two brothers, Bonnie Edward Melson of Moulton and Arnold Melson of Danville; three sisters, Irene Melson, Eddie Mae Whitlock and Bessie Sutton, all of Moulton; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Glenda Sue "Sister" Manley

42, disabled since birth, Arkansas

Glenda Sue Manley died Sunday, February 23, 1997, in Memphis, Tenn.

The funeral was held Wednesday, February 26, 2 p.m., at Wilson Funeral Home chapel in Osceola, Ark., with Bro. Mike Collier officiating.

Burial was in the Rivercrest Gardens in Marie, Ark.

She was born in Wilson, Ark. And was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her parents, Thomas and Wynadeen Manley of Marie; three sisters, Annette Massengill of Osceola, Charlotte Johnson and Janet Ivy, both of Bono, Ark.; six brothers, Bobby Manley, Jimmy Manley, Thomas Manley Jr. And Jerry Manley, all of Marie, Winford Manley of Victoria, Ark. And Gary Manley of Osceola; and her grandfather, Emmitt Thrasher of Osceola.

William T. "Buster" Terry

75, business owner, Courtland

Funeral for William T. "Buster" Terry was held Thursday, February 27, 1 p.m., at Lawrence Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Rickey Hughes officiating.

Burial was in the Courtland Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Terry died Tuesday, February 25, 1995, at Parkway Medical Center in Decatur.

He was born in Lawrence County and owned service stations in Decatur and Courtland.

Survivors include his wife, Marion Odee Terry; two sons, Stanley Terry and Terry Terry, both of Courtland; one daughter, Peggy Sharp of Hillsboro; one brother, Hammett Terry Jr. Of Courtland; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Chuck Terry, Jason Terry, Larry Sharp, Ronnie Peebles, Craig Loosier and Chad Rutherford.

Coolidge Counts

72, retired machinist, Town Creek

Funeral for Coolidge Counts was held Thursday, February 27, 11 a.m., at Elliott Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Wakefield officiating.

Burial was in the Ferguson Cemetery.

Mr. Counts died Tuesday, February 25, 1997, in Florence.

He was born in Lawrence County to Authur and Janie Alexander Counts. He was retired from Reynolds Metal Co. and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II. Mr. Counts was a member of machinist union Local No. 1189 and a deacon of Providence Baptist Church, where he was recently honored as a lifetime deacon. He was the widower of Lorene Riggs Counts.

He is survived by two sons, Kenneth Counts and Rodger Counts, both of Town Creek; one brother, William Counts of Town Creek; and three granddaughters.

Pallbearers were Walter Hicks, Anthony Hicks, Jeron Witt, Johnny Lavert Riggs, James Price and David Carroll.

Walter "Red" Cunningham Sr.

71, retired construction worker, North Courtland

Funeral for Walter "Red" Cinningham Sr. was held Friday, February 28, noon, at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. B.L. Burgess officiating.

Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Cunningham died Friday, February 21, 1997, at his residence.

He was born in Lawrence County and was a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Cunningham; eight sons, Walter Cunningham Jr., Rev. Charles Cunningham, Percy Cunningham and Fred Cunningham, all of Decatur; Ronnie Davenport of Town Creek, Lee Davenport of Gadsden, Gary Davenport and Richard Pointer, both of Courtland; seven daughters, Sarah Bowling of Decatur, Lillie Orr of Moulton, Louvenia Guster and Dealla Cunningham, both of Decatur, Ollie Davenport of Courtland, Angelia Davenport of Leighton and Carolyn Davenport of Town Creek; his mother, Lillie Cunningham of North Courtland; four brothers, Jessie Garth, Samuel Garth and Sterling Cunningham, all of Detroit and Carl Cunningham of Atlanta; three sisters, Percy Mack, Dovella Spears and Vella Person, all of Detroit; 43 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Dewey Terry

49, insulator, Trinity

Funeral for Dewey Terry was held Thursday, February 27, 2 p.m., at Shelton Funeral Home with the Revs. Amos Hood, R.M. Johnson and Zachary Terry officiating.

Burial was in the Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Terry died Tuesday, February 25, 1997, at his home.

He was born in Lawrence County to Floyd C. and Stella Fuller Terry. Mr. Terry was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Terry; five sons, Tim Terry, Scotty Terry, Kirk Terry, Tatum Terry and Zeke Terry, all of Trinity; his mother, Stella Terry of Trinity; four brothers, Gordon Terry of Pulaski, Teenn., Buddy Terry and Calvin Terry, both of Trinity and Carl Terry of Moulton; five sisters, Betty Morgan and Merle Garrison, both of Trinity, Marcille Sandlin of Decatur, Jimmie Lou Lemmond of Price ville and Melba Cabler of Florence; and three grandchildren.

Nephews were the pallbearers.

Lillie Jane Anderton Borden

76, homemaker, Moulton

Funeral for Lillie Jane Anderton Borden was held Monday, March 3, 2 p.m., at Union Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. T.R. Holloway and Steve Hood officiating.

Burial was in the Union Hill Cemetery with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Borden died Saturday, March 1, 1997, at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Lawrence County and was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church and had worked as a seamstress for an undergarment factory.

She is survived by two sons, Carlos E. Borden and Charles J. Borden, both of Moulton; four daughters, Mary Lucille Buck of Hampton, Va., Bertha Borden Muston of Moulton, Joy Brown of Trinity and Juanita Peebles of Grayson; three brothers, Lewis Anderton and James Anderton, both of Town Creek and Lester Anderton of Marietta, Ga.; 18 grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Earl Gene Whisenant

63, security guard, Trinity

Earl Gene Whisenant died Friday, February 28, 1997, at Parkway Medical Center.

The funeral was held Sunday, March 2, 2 p.m., at Elliott Funeral Home.

Burial was in the Mountain Springs Cemetery.

He was born in Lawrence County to Willie Whisenant and Florence Blankenship Whisenant. He was employed by Champion International Corp.

Survivors include his wife, Dotsie Whisenant; one son, Larry Whisenant of Trinity; one daughter, Linda Stricklin of Chalybeate; five brothers, Talmadge Whisenant of Hamilton, Hoyt Whisenant and Herman Whisenant, both of Moulton, Jessie Whisenant and Glenn Whisenant, both of Decatur; and seven grandchildren.

Charles Lee Gregg

36, self employed, Kalamazoo, Mich.

Funeral for Charles Lee Gregg was held Wednesday, March 5, 2 p.m., at Elliott Funeral Home with the Rev. Junior Hale officiating.

Burial was in the Smyrna Cemetery.

Mr. Gregg died Thursday, February 27, 1997, in Kalamazoo.

He was born in Lawrence County to Thomas Gregg and Lola Stricklin Gregg.

Mr. Gregg is survived by his wife, Deanna Gregg; one daughter Bambie Lynn of Kalamazoo; one stepdaughter, Amy Lynn of Kalamazoo; his parents, Tom and Lola Gregg of Trinity; his grandmother, Lomeada Stricklin of Hillsboro; and one grandson.

Pallbearers were Keith Stricklin, Jimmy Stricklin, Earl Stricklin, David Stricklin, Ricky Stricklin and Lelton Parker.
