Marie Parker Smith

Marie Parker Smith died Sunday, August 24, 1997, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence.

The funeral was held Tuesday, August 26, 2 p.m., at Lawrence Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Jerry Strickland and Ron Edgil officiating.

Burial was in the Providence Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith was born in Lawrence County to William and Dean Parker. She was a member of Cave Springs Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ausie "Shorty" Smith; a daughter, Sharon Latham of Town Creek, three brothers, Roy Parker of Moulton, Melvin Parker of Town Creek and Curtis Parker of Mount Hope; a sister, Bobbie Landers of Leighton; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Braxton Craig, Harold Radford, John Levert Riggs, Hillard Frost, John Terry and Ray Parker.

Archie Leroy Lang

79, retired merchant, Moulton

Funeral for Archie Leroy Lang, who died Wednesday, August 20, 1997, at his residence, was held Friday, August 22, at Elliott Funeral chapel. Officiating at the 2 p.m. service were Scott Delashaw and Clyde Goodlett.

Burial was in the Moulton Memory Gardens.

Mr. Lang was born in Moulton to John D. and Ethel Caine Lang. Mr. Lang was owner of Archie Lang's Grocery in Langtown until his retirement in the 1980's.

Survivors include his wife, Carrie S. Lang; a daughter, Ann Hogan of Destin, Fla.; two sons, Alton Lang and Larry Lang, both of Moulton; a sister, Linda Kingsley of Madison; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Grandsons and Theron Land were the pallbearers.

Earline P. Terry

77, homemaker, Leighton

Earline P. Terry died Tuesday, August 19, 1997, in Muscle Shoals.

The funeral was held Thursday, August 21, noon, at Courtland Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Reding and Jerry Peebles officiating.

Burial was in the Courtland Memorial Gardens with Spry Funeral Home directing.

She was born in Lawrence County and was a member of Hillsboro Baptist Church. Mrs. Terry had been a resident of Leighton for the past year.

Survivors include three sons, Dwight Terry and Dale Terry, both of Leighton and Kenny Terry of Courtland; one daughter, Kathy Dutton of Moulton; one sister, Jennie Glenn of Leighton; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Johnny Nix, Jared Nix, Jason Terry, Keith Cottingham, Joe Vandiver and Coleman Peebles.

Bertha White James

60, substitute teacher, North Courtland

Funeral for Bertha White James was held Friday, August 22, 11 a.m., at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Town Creek with the Rev. Jessie Little officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. James died Tuesday, August 19, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital.

She was born in Lawrence County. Mrs. James worked as a substitute teacher for Lawrence County Schools. She was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she was past member of the church choir. Mrs. James was a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Alabama Democratic Conference, Courtland High School Athletic Boosters Club and the Parent-Teacher Association. She formerly worked with the North Courtland Cub Scouts.

Survivors include her husband, North Courtland Mayor Fred James; two sons, Anthony James of Madison and Mark James of North Courtland; six brothers, Hoover White and Mylun White, both of North Courtland, David White of East Elmhurst, N.Y., Albert Robinson of Brooklyn, N.Y., Louis White of Courtland, and J. C. Robinson of Decatur; seven sisters, Ernestine White of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mattie Dixon of Mount Vernon, N.Y., Laura Faison, Dorothy White, Dorothy Robinson and Joann Langham, all of North Courtland and Carolyn Reedus, Huntsville; and one grandson.

Nephews and cousins were the pallbearers.

Jimmy Franklin Taylor

58, supervisor, Moulton

Funeral for Jimmy Franklin Taylor was held Thursday, August 21, 2 p.m., at Faith Baptist Church in Midway with the Rev. Steve Agee officiating.

Burial was in the East Lawrence Memorial Gardens with Shelton Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Taylor died Tuesday, August 19,1997, at Huntsville Hospital.

He was born in Russellville and was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Mr. Taylor was employed by Amoco Chemicals for 31 years.

He is survived by his wife, Julie Taylor; two sons, Steve Taylor of Decatur and Mike Taylor of Guntersville; three daughters, Donna Preston of Trinity, Suzanne Martin of Fayette and Cyndi Murphy of Atlanta; his mother, Mildred F. Taylor of Muscle Shoals; one sister, Marvinee Frensley of Nashville; and nine grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Noel Chittham, Shep Shepherd, Bob Shuttleworth, Jim Anderson, Jim Feezel, Bill East, Jim Thaxton and John Robin Thomas.

James "Jimmy" Dale Young

21, pipelayer, Cullman

James "Jimmy" Dale Young died Wednesday, Aug 20, 1997, in Morgan County.

The funeral was held Friday, August 22, 2 p.m., at Raley McCracken Funeral Home chapel with Barbara Trussell officiating.

Burial was in the Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery.

He was a native of Cullman and was employed by McMinn Pipe Co. He served in the National Guard.

Survivors include his father, Dale Young of Cullman; his mother, Wilma Raley Young of Moulton; a brother, Adam John Young of Moulton; his grandparents, Bob and Evon Flagg and Edna Young, all of Cullman and James D. Young of Sand Mountain.

Billy Dwayne Little

43, Grayson Lumber Co., Houston

Funeral for Billy Dwayne Little was held Saturday, August 23, 2 p.m., at Lawrence Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Roger Houston and Larry Riddle officiating.

Burial was in the Town Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Little died Thursday, August 21, 1997, Grayson Lumber Company in Winston County.

He was born in Illinois. Mr. Little was a member of New Zion Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Little; a son, John Borden of Hartselle; his parents, Hayes and Eloise Little of Russellville; a stepson, Chris Melson of Houston; two stepdaughters, Cammie Dee Melson and Tina Louise Melson, both of Houston; four brothers, Larry Little of Red Bay, Tommy Little of Decatur, Michael Little of Russellville and Greg Little of Birmingham; two sisters, Patsy Pierce of Town Creek and Shelia Chambers of Moulton.

Pallbearers were Waymon Wallace, Jackie Wallace, Dewight Chambers, Anthony Mississippi, Jeremy New and Tyrone Pierce.

Dennis Hall

91, forest service retiree, Moulton

Funeral for Dennis Patterson Hall was held Saturday, August 23, 11 a.m., at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jackie Shelton officiating.

Burial was in the Moulton Memory Gardens with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Hall died Thursday, August 21, 1997, at his home.

He was born in Lawrence County. Mr. Hall retired from the forest service in the late 1960s. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by three sons, Walter Hall of Decatur, Corbet Hall of Trinity and Curtis Hall of Prattville; three daughters, Myrtle Pugh of Haleyville, Dorothy Smith of Moulton, and Vickie Sanford of Hartselle; one sister, Maggie Owens of Moulton; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Tim Hall, Brian Hall, Shane Sanford, Kenneth Sanford, Heath Bishop and Horace Owens.
