Homer B. Barkley
Homer B. Barkley, 80, of Huntsville died Wednesday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Friday at 12:30 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Spencer Thompson officiating.
Mr. Barkley was a native of Marshall County, but spent most of his life in Madison County. He was retired from NASA after 27 years there. He was also a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Brownsboro and was a World War II Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Fern Barkley of Huntsville; two sons, Jerry Barkley of Brownsboro and Lawrence Barkley of Iuka, Miss.; one daughter, Judy Hodge of Huntsville; two brothers, James Barkley and Hugh "Buddy" Barkley, both of Huntsville; three sisters, Dorothy Baker and Elsie Waters, both of Huntsville, and Peggy Medlem of Jeffersonville, Ind.; and seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Beverly Broome
Beverly Sue Cray Broome, 56, of Huntsville died Wednesday at her home. The funeral was to be today at 3:30 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery.
Spry Funeral Home will be in charge of burial.
Mrs. Broome was a native of Abilene, Texas, and had lived in Huntsville 27 years.
Survivors include her husband, Don Broome Sr. of Huntsville; three daughters, Angela Dawn Kipp of Eatontown, N.J., Deborah Ridgeway of Athens and Jennifer L. Broome of Huntsville; two sons, Douglas Wayne Kipp of Huntsville and Don Broome Jr. of Harrisburg, N.C.; one sister, Jeanie Brookings of Huntsville; and three grandchildren.
Visitation was to be today from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Family Care.
Kathleen Bryant
MERIDIANVILLE - Kathleen Bryant, 73, died Monday in Fayetteville, Tenn. The funeral was today at 11 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery with Dr. Albert Long officiating.
Spry Funeral Home will be in charge of burial.
Mrs. Bryant was a native of DeKalb County and had lived in Madison County since 1950. She was a member of Murphy Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Allan Bryant of Meridianville; one sister, Frances Nell Burns of Sylvania; and three grandchildren.
James S. Cantrell Sr.
James S. Cantrell Sr. of Huntsville died Wednesday at his home. Valhalla Funeral Home will announce funeral arrangements.
Billy Childers
Billy Childers of Huntsville died Monday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Mike Holley officiating.
Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Childers was retired from the Army and from Dunlop Rubber and Tire Co.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Cobb Childers of Huntsville; four sons, Billy R. Childers and Steve M. Beshears, both of Huntsville, and Ricky D. Beshears and Gary W. Beshears, both of Hazel Green ; and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Betty J. Covan
Betty Joan Covan, 60, of Huntsville died Tuesday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Fred E. Webster Jr. officiating.
Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Covan was a registered nurse, an artist, a homemaker and a native of Clarke County. She had lived in Huntsville since 1971 and was a member of New United Methodist Church of Monrovia.
Survivors include her husband, Carl Covan of Huntsville; one daughter, Cindy Covan of Old Hickory, Tenn.; one son, Mark Covan of Madison; and one brother, Marion Singleton of Jackson.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ola M. Croft
MADISON, Miss. - Ola Mae Croft, 74, of Madison, Miss., died Sunday in Mississippi. A graveside service was to be today at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Boaz.
Carr Funeral Home of Boaz will be in charge of burial.
Survivors include one son, Curtis Croft of Mississippi; and three grandchildren.
James A. Durden
GRANT - James Alfonzo Durden, 66, of 382 Ayers Circle died Tuesday at a Grant nursing home. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Grant Memorial Chapel.
Burial will be in Free Home Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Durden of Grant; four sons, Dale Durden of Georgia, Scooter Durden of Grant and Tommy Lee Roberts and William H. Roberts, both of Cullman; one sister, Marge Schubert of Florida and Laura Smith of North Carolina; one brother, Leo Durden of Georgia; and three grandchildren.
Gladstone A. Dye
ATHENS - Gladstone A. Dye, 66, of Barker Road died Tuesday at his home. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home in Athens.
Burial will be in Lentzville Cemetery.
Mr. Dye was a member of Carriger Church of Christ and a retired barber.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Evelyn Dye; his mother, Ada B. Dye of Athens; one brother, Arvil Dye of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Clara S. Ford
MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. - Clara S. Ford, 86, died Tuesday at a Merritt Island hospital. The funeral will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Des Arc, Ark.
Wylie-Baxley Merritt Island Funeral Home will be in charge of local arrangements.
Mrs. Ford moved to Merritt Island from Huntsville last year. She was an elementary and high school teacher.
Survivors include one son, Ron Baldwin of Merritt Island; two stepsons, George Ford of Des Arc and James Ford of Arkadelphia, Ark.; and eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

George D. Halcomb
ENID, Okla. - George DeWayne "Buddy" Halcomb, 47, died Sunday at an Enid hospital. The funeral was to be today at 1 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid with Gerry Pratt officiating.
Henninger-Allen Funeral Home will be in charge of burial.
Mr. Halcomb was a native of Fayetteville, Tenn. He moved to Enid in 1980 and had worked in construction.
Survivors include one son, Floyd Jefferson Halcomb of Fayetteville; his mother, Laura K. Halcomb of Enid; two sisters, Deborah All of Enid and Sarah Crews of Huntsville; and one niece and two nephews.
James T. Hill
James Tracy Hill, 78, of Huntsville died Tuesday at a local hospital. The funeral was to be today at 2:30 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Charles V. McKay and the Rev. Eddie Lones officiating.
Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
Mr. Hill was a native of Madison County. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and had served in the U.S. Air Corps. He was a member of NARFE, was retired from civil service at MICOM and was a member of Lim Rock United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marveline Hill of Huntsville; one daughter, Patricia A. Cooper of Madison; two stepdaughters, Jeanette Broad of Brownsboro and Brenda Blankenship of Huntsville; one brother, Roy L. Hill of Huntsville; and one granddaughter and six step-great-grandchildren.
William H. Hulsizer
ATHENS - William Henry Hulsizer, 89, of 19473 Sharp Road died Tuesday at a local hospital. A memorial service will be held later at St. Pauls Catholic Church with McConnell Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Hulsizer was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Bangs Hulsizer; and one son, William Hulsizer.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Nunley of Athens; two sisters, Agnes Kinney of Woodland, Calif. and Katherine Anania of Colusa, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Julia A. Lascola
Julia Ann Lascola, 79, of Huntsville died Monday at a local hospital. A memorial service will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home chapel with Deacon Leroy Hoekenschnieder officiating.
Mrs. Lascola was active with the Senior Center in Huntsville.
Survivors include her husband, Anthony G. Lascola of Huntsville; two daughters, Arlene Rowe of Enterprise and Jana Warmouth of Madison; one sister, Beatrice Bruno of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
James H. Morris
DECATUR - James Howell Morris, 78, of 2008 Woodmont Drive died Tuesday at his home. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Hal Noble and the Rev. John Clotfelter officiating.
Burial will be in Hartselle Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home of Hartselle in charge.
Mr. Morris was a member of Central United Methodist Church, retired from Wolverine Tube and a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Robinson Morris; one daughter, Rebecca Morris Wadley of Decatur; one sister, Olene Morris of Decatur; and three grandchildren.
Ora B. Moyers
Ora Byrom Moyers, 86, of Huntsville died Wednesday at her home. The funeral will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. John Dees officiating.
Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Moyers was a native of Morgan County, but had spent most of her life in Madison County. She was a volunteer at the Senior Center.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Byrom Sr. of Huntsville; two sisters, Cordie Harbin of Hazel Green and Evelyn Webster of Huntsville; three grandchildren, Lisa Ratcliff, Jerry Byrom Sr. and Julee Couch, all of Huntsville; and seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Wilma S. Owens
BOAZ - Wilma Scott Owens, 73, of 510 Darnell St. died Tuesday at a local hospital. The funeral was to be today at 2 p.m. at Albertville Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
Burial was to be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd L. Owens; one daughter, Patricia Allison of Boaz; two sons, David Owens of Boaz and Charles Owens of Opelika; two brothers, Jewel Scott of Douglas and Elmer Scott of Boaz; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Harold C. Pack
ATHENS - Harold Clyde ''Papa Joe Pack, 77, of Pamela Drive died Tuesday at a local hospital. The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home in Athens with Grady Reyer officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Pack was a native of Limestone County, was a retired carpenter, an Army veteran of World War II and was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Pack.
Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Miller of Huntsville and Freda Teran of Athens; four sons, Charles Pack, Ricky Pack, both of Minor Hill, Tenn., Terry Pack and Robin Pack, both of Athens; three sisters, Agnes Ferrell of Montgomery, Nell Harvey and Margie Davis, both of Athens; two brothers, Johnny Pack and Jerry Pack, both of Athens; and 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Jane T. Waggoner
Jane Thompson Waggoner, 83, of Huntsville died Tuesday at a local nursing home. The graveside service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery with Dr. J. Edward Culpepper officiating.
Laughlin Service Funeral Home will be in charge of burial.
Mrs. Waggoner was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Andra T. Esslinger of Huntsville and Ann Thompson of California; and nephews.
Mary R. Williams
HOLLYWOOD - Mary Ruby Williams, 58, of Hollywood died Monday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral was Wednesday at the Goosepond Church of God with the Rev. Eugene McDowell, the Rev. Billy Anderton and the Rev. Mayburn Guess officiating.
Burial was in Stevenson City Cemetery.
Survivors include four daughters, Julia Jeffery of Navarre, Fla., Karen Bradford of Dutton, Rhonda Moxley of Niceville, Fla., and Crystal Bohannon of Salisbury, N.C.; one son, Terry Williams of Hollywood; five sisters, Carlene Wattley of Montgomery and Charlene Potts, Elsie Condra, Jean Davis and Sue Scruggs, all of Bridgeport; two brothers, Bill Morgan of Montgomery and Jimmy Spangler of Bridgeport; and nine grandchildren.
