Nelson L. Allen
MERIDIANVILLE - Nelson Lee Allen, 62, of Rock Hill Road died Thursday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Plainview Church of Christ in Hazel Green with Tommy Rosenblum officiating.
Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery with Gallant Funeral Home of Hazel Green in charge.
Mr. Allen retired in 1990 after 36 years with The Huntsville Times in the composing and production departments. He was a member of Plainview Church of Christ, where he oversaw the Outreach Center program. He was also an active member of many civic organizations.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Elledge Allen of Meridianville; two daughters, Susie Lambert of Meridianville and Leah Hose of Huntsville; one brother, Earl Allen of Chesapeake, Va.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church.
Jimmy S. Broyles
IDER - Jimmy Steven Broyles, 16, died Wednesday. The funeral was to be today at 2 p.m. at Kerby Funeral Home in Henagar with the Rev. Johnny Ellison and the Rev. Billy Dalton officiating.
Burial was to be in Sylvania.
Survivors include his mother, Teresa Whitecotton of Pisgah; his father, Chesley E. Broyles of Ider; two sisters, Donielle Vann of Dallas, Ga., and Hannah Whitecotton of Pisgah; one brother, Avery Whitecotton of Pisgah; and grandparents, Irene Broyles of Ider and Dean and Susie McKenzie of High Point, Ala.
Myrtle Cheeves
ELORA, Tenn. - Myrtle Cheeves, 85, died Thursday at a Fayetteville hospital. The funeral was today at 11 a.m. at Gallant Funeral Home with the Rev. J.H. Watts officiating.
Burial will be in New Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Cheeves was a native of Madison County and was a member of the Flintville school board.
Survivors include one brother, Johnny Marion Clutts of Fayetteville; and several nephews, including Alton Roland of Elora.
Nellie R. Childers
SOMERVILLE - Nellie Ruth Childers, 57, of 10 Tulip Private Drive died Wednesday at a local hospital. The funeral was to be today at 2 p.m. at Arab Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
Burial was to be in Old New Canaan Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Veronica Mosley of Greenville; one son, Ronnie Childers of Arab; mother, Beatrice Smith of Union Grove; three sisters, Judy Dunn of Union Grove, Reda Aldredge of Laceys Spring and Teresa Sisk of Arab; and one brother, Rickey Smith of Union Grove; and four grandchildren.
James T. Clark Sr.
ATHENS - James T. Clark Sr., 85, of 1403 Aston St. died Thursday at a local hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced by McConnell Funeral Home.
Sula M. Daniel
Sula Mae Daniel, 77, of Huntsville died Thursday at her home. Spry Funeral Home will announce funeral arrangements.
Mrs. Daniel was a native of Hazel Green and had spent most her life in Huntsville. She owned and operated the Park Inn across from Merimack Mill in Huntsville from 1949 until she died. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Joe" Fleming Daniel.
Survivors include one son, Jack Daniel of Huntsville; and five nieces, two nephews, five great-nieces and eight great-nephews.

Millie Deweese
Millie Mae Schwartz Deweese, 86, of Huntsville died Thursday at her home. The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Suncrest Cemetery in Point Pleasant, W.V.
Spry Funeral Home will be in charge of local arrangements.
Mrs. Deweese was a native of Point Pleasant and a member of Good Shepherd Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert "Barney" Deweese.
Survivors include one daughter, Lettie Jane Deweese Morrison of Huntsville; one sister, Elsie Gibbs Mayes of Clinton, Ohio; one grandson, one granddaughter, one great-grandson, two great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant.

Lyman J. Hall III
GUNTERSVILLE - Lyman James Hall III, 78, of 3144 Lakewood Drive died Thursday at a Huntsville hospital. A memorial service will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at Guntersville Episcopal Church of the Epiphany.
Guntersville Memorial Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Carmela Hall; two daughters, Anita Duncan and Rosalind Hall, both of Guntersville; one sister, Helen Robinson of Texas; one brother, Charles Hall of Huntsville; and three grandchildren.

Lelia K. Huie
GADSDEN - Lelia Kirby Huie died Wednesday. The funeral was today at 2 p.m. at Collier-Butler Chapel with the Rev. Don Pendergrass and the Rev. Wayne Milam officiating.
Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Huie was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. "Jim" Huie.
Survivors include two daughters, Mable Hoge and Gladys Tolleson, both of Gadsden; three sons, Jake Huie and Bill Huie, both of Gadsden, and Jim Huie of Huntsville; and 12 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

Richard L. Hurt Sr.
The Rev. Richard L. Hurt Sr., 64, of Huntsville died Tuesday. The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Henry Bradford Jr. officiating.
Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens with Nelms Memorial Funeral Home in charge.
The Rev. Hurt was a native of Huntsville and a 1952 Councill Training School graduate. He earned a bachelor of science degree from Athens State College and degree in theology from Huntsville Baptist Institute. He served active duty in the Air Force for 20 years, retiring in 1972. He then opened his own business, Hurts Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Co. and became a teacher at J.F. Drake Technical School, now J.F. Drake Technical College.
He was an ordained and licensed minister and was a member and elder at Church Street C.P. Church. He served as pastor at New Zion C.P. Church and Mt. Sinai C.P. Church of America.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Williams Hurt of Huntsville; three sons, Robert Rice of Knoxville, Tenn., Richard Hurt Jr. of Houston, Texas, and Charles Hurt of Huntsville; two daughters, Angela Hurt Knight and Jacqueline Hurt, both of Huntsville; one stepdaughter, Tanisha L. Rodgers of Atlanta; two brothers, Binford Moore of Nashville and Gary Moore of Buffalo, N.Y.; two sisters, Lynette Garvin of Buffalo and Avery Jean Bosley of Chicago; one aunt, Verdell Kennebrew of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and 18 grandchildren and several great grandchildren, cousins, other relatives and friends.
His body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.
John Jones
ROCKFORD, Ill. - John Jones, 55, died Saturday in Rockford. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem P.B. Church with the Rev. Sammie Sanders Jr. officiating.
Burial will be in Ragland Cemetery in Green brier with Royal Funeral Home in charge.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne P. Jones of Huntsville; four daughters, Tiffany L. Jones of Huntsville, Jennifer Y. Jones of Chattanooga, Tenn., Delphine Langford of Madison and Lynne N. Jones of Rockford; four sons, Christopher Jones of Huntsville, John Jones Jr. of Chattanooga, Eric Jones of Germany and Quincy Atmore of Rockford; his father, William Jones of Detroit; five sisters, Virginia Jones, Mabel Keith, Bonnie Horton and Georgia Hewlett, all of Huntsville, and Dorothy Sales of Akron, Ohio; six brothers, William Houston, Ronnie Horton and David Keith, all of Huntsville, Billy Fletcher of Birmingham and James Smith and Ernest Smith, both of Cincinnati, Ohio; and 13 grandchildren.
His body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.
Lamar Jones
Lamar Jones, 87, of Huntsville died Friday at a local hospital. Laughlin Service Funeral Home will announce funeral arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Murphy Jones of Huntsville; one daughter, Mrs. William H. Griffin of Huntsville; two sons, Dr. James Fly Jones of Denver, Colo., and Douglas Lamar Jones of Boston, Mass.; two stepsons, Dr. Gates E. Murphy of Athens and retired Navy Capt. James L. Murphy of Maryland; and seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Lilla M. Karr
ALBERTVILLE - Lilla Mae Karr, 95, of 600 Fairmont Ave. died Wednesday at a local hospital. The funeral was to be today at 2 p.m. at Albertville Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
Burial was to be in High Point Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Karr of Albertville; two sons, Buel Karr of Huntsville and Clinton Karr of Albertville; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Cecil G. Key
GERALDINE - Cecil Grady Key, 82, died Tuesday at his home. The funeral was Thursday at W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel.
Burial was in Geraldine Cemetery.
Mr. Key was a native of Dekalb County and a World War II veteran.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Weedmah of Louisville, Ky.; two sons, Gerald Key and Larry Key, both of Louisville; one sister, Bessie Gore of Geraldine; one half-sister, Ellen Caston of Geraldine; three half-brothers, Clarence Huckeba, Melvin Huckeba and Curtis Huckeba; and nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Helen S. Lewter
Helen Shelton Lewter, 70, of Huntsville died Thursday at a local hospital. Spry Funeral Home will announce funeral arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Homer Lewter of Huntsville; two sons, Larry Wayne Lewter of Fayetteville, Tenn., and James Michael Lewter of Huntsville; two daughters, Wilma Madden of Florence and Helen Marie Lewter of Huntsville; one brother, Paul Thomas Shelton of Fayette and Jean Malone of Huntsville; and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Edward F. Megginson
Edward F. Megginson, 65, of Huntsville died Wednesday in Kingsport, Tenn. Valhalla Funeral Home will announce funeral arrangements.
Ben W. Mims Jr.
TONEY - Ben W. Mims Jr., 66, of Toney died Wednesday at his home. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home chapel.
Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Mr. Mims was a Korean War Army veteran and former president of United Plating Co. and Twin Technical. He was a native of South Carolina, a member of the Madison County Cattlemens Association and stable officer for Redstone Arsenals Saddle Club.
Survivors include his wife, Dora Ann Mims of Toney; one daughter, Shelva Jean Barber of Madison; one sister, Marion Creech of South Carolina; two brothers, Robert L. Mims of South Carolina and James E. Mims of New Mexico.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gene D. Oakes
Gene David Oakes, 63, of Huntsville died Sunday at a local hospital. The celebration of life service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Fanning Heights Church of Christ with Roy Taylor officiating.
Spry Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Oakes was a native of Irion, Ga., and was retired from electronics sales. He was a member of of Fanning Heights Church of Christ and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include two daughters, Theresa Ziegler of Chino Hill, Calif., and Caroline Oakes of California; two sons, David Oakes of Charlotte, N.C., and John Oakes of Santa Ana, Calif.; two sisters, Elsie Mason of Huntsville and Norene Pope of Ardmore, Ala.; five grandchildren; and a special friend, Linda Rutledge.

Lisa Roop
Lisa Kay Holloway Roop, 34, of Huntsville died Monday. The funeral was to be today at 2 p.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Phil OKennedy officiating.
Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Roop was a 1983 Grissom High School graduate where she was a member of the band. She was also Catholic.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Roop of Huntsville; two sons, Jerry Lee Roop Jr. and Justin Lane Roop, both of Huntsville; her parents, Clark and Esther Holloway of Huntsville; one brother, Steve Holloway of Athens; grandmother, Emma Morvant of Groves, Texas; and six nieces and two nephews.
Jonathan R. Sweeney
A funeral for Army Pvt. Jonathan Ralph Sweeney, 25, of Redstone Arsenal will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Redstone Arsenal Chapel with Chaplain Col. Paul Vicalvi officiating.
Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Gardens with military honors and Shelton Funeral Home of Decatur in charge.
Mr. Sweeney was a native of Los Gatos, Calif. He completed infantry basic training and AIT at Fort Benning, Ga., where he served as platoon guide and was en route to South Korea when he died.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Sweeney; one daughter, Jessica Anne Sweeney of Redstone Arsenal; one son, Michael Edward Sweeney of Redstone Arsenal; his parents, Edward D. Sweeney and Mary C. Sweeney of Huntsville; one sister, Jennifer K. Sweeney of Huntsville; and one brother, Charles E. Sweeney of Madison.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Velma I. Troupe
Velma Irene Troupe, 96, of Huntsville died Thursday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Chapel of Love Masoleum with Tommy Rosenblum officiating.
Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Troupe was a member of Lincoln Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Durham of Winchester, Tenn.; two sons, Duncan Troupe of Huntsville and Leon Troupe of Winchester; and nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

ARAB - John Oscar Walls II, 76, of 584 Burkley Road died Wednesday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral was today at 11 a.m. at Carr Funeral Home in Guntersville.
Burial was in Brookwood Cemetery in Arab.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Walls; four sons, John O. Walls III of Las Vegas and Colin Walls, Charles Walls and Scott Walls, all of Arab; one brother, Candler Walls of Georgia; and 13 grandchildren.
