Bernice I. Acklin
Bernice I. Acklin, 82, of 402 South Plymouth St. died Thursday at her home. The funeral will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Big Indian Creek P.B. Church with the Rev. Timothy Rainey officiating.
Burial will be in Indian Creek Cemetery with Royal Funeral Home in charge.
Survivors include one daughter, Susie Acklin of Huntsville; four sons, Luther Acklin, Edward Acklin, Rogers Acklin and Rickey Acklin, all of Huntsville; one sister, Willie Mae Ervin of Huntsville; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Sierra L. Alexander
ATHENS - Sierra Leona Alexander, infant daughter of Barry and Rhonda Thorne Alexander of Athens, died Tuesday at a Huntsville hospital. A graveside service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Cemetery with Bill Bagents and Jimmy Clark officiating.
Spry Funeral Home of Athens will be in charge of burial.
Other survivors include one sister, Savana Naomi Alexander of Athens; grandparents, Ralph and Frances Harrison of Killen and Houston and Sarah Alexander of Pell City; great-grandmothers, Lola Beavers of Killen and Louise Thorne of W. Va.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Martha Bradshaw
BOAZ - Martha Lue Thrasher Bradshaw of 708 Stephen St. died Wednesday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Carr Funeral Home of Boaz.
Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mrs. Bradshaw was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Bradshaw.
Survivors include a son, David R. "Mookie" Bradshaw of Noonan, Ga.; a sister, Jean Thrasher Dyar of Arab; and three grandsons.
Memorial donations may be made to the Julia Street Memorial United Methodist Church.
Clura L. Buchanan
ARDMORE, Ala. - Clura Lee Buchanan, 81, of 26377 6th St. died Thursday at an Athens hospital. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Taylor-Ardmore Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Sammy Brister and Bro. Paul Clutts officiating.
Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery.
Mrs. Buchanan was a member of First Baptist Church of Ardmore.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Buchanan of Ardmore, Ala.; two sons, Charles Buchanan of Ardmore, Ala., and Phillip Buchanan of Cleveland, Okla.; two brothers, H.G. Brooks of Pontiac, Mich., and Billy Brooks of Ardmore, Ala.; two sisters, Juanita Ingram of Bruton and Doris Vanzant; and four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Hallie Dunham
Hallie Dunham, 89, of Huntsville died today at a local hospital. Spry Funeral Home will announce funeral arrangements.
Survivors include one brother, Henry Dunham of Huntsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Rose B. Hamilton
ROGERSVILLE - Rose Barbee Hamilton, 97, died Thursday at a Florence hospital. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Oliver Church of Christ with Daniel Ridinger and Gerald Sockwell officiating.
Burial will be in Miller Cemetery with Spry Funeral Home of Athens in charge.
Mrs. Hamilton was a homemaker, a member of Oliver Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Hamilton; one daughter, Martha Comerci; and one son, Charles Hamilton.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary Harrison of Huntsville, Ruth Hamilton of Rogersville, Dorothy Hamilton and Frances Andrew, both of Decatur; three sons, James R. Hamilton of Rogersville, John H. Hamilton and Emmett Morris Hamilton, both of Nashville; and 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Merwyn L. Johnson
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Rev. Merwyn L. Johnson, 85, died Thursday. The memorial service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Park United Methodist Church in Bloomington with the Rev. Rob Roy officiating.
Burial will be in Blooming Grove Cemetery with Beck Memorial Home of Bloomington in charge.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy R. Harris of Buford, Ga., and Phyllis D. Whalen of Huntsville; one son, David M. Johnson of Earp, Calif.; three sisters, Ruth M. Daly of Bloomington, Frances M. Schnupp of Phoenix, Ariz., and Margaret Johnson of Glendale, Calif.; and eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to Home Sweet Mission in Bloomington.
Crystal D. Kurzban
Crystal Dawn Kurzban, 14, of Huntsville died Wednesday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Miss Kurzban was a student at Buckhorn High School.
Survivors include her parents, David and Yiye Cherney of New York City and Stephen and Cely Kurzban of Huntsville; one sister, Angela Kurzban of Huntsville; grandparents, Rosemary and Malcolm Kurzban of Miami Beach, Fla., and Tissie Doblada of Huntsville.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m.; a rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation Saturday will be 6 to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m.
Daisy M. Majors
ARDMORE, Tenn. - Daisy Mae Majors, 103, of 11960 Wall Triana Highway died Monday at a Tennessee hospital. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Royal Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Michael Freeman officiating.
Burial will be in Chandler Cemetery in Taft, Tenn.
Survivors include several nephews, including James Harris; one sister-in-law, Winnie Harris; and several nieces.
James L. Morgan
MADISON - James Larry Morgan, 57, died Wednesday at a local hospital. The funeral was to be today at 3 p.m. at Madison Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Sonny Kirk officiating.
Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Morgan and Robyn Morgan Curns, both of Madison; one brother, Fred E. Morgan of Perry, Fla.; two sisters, Betty M. Valentine and JoAnn Sheppard, both of Cross City, Fla.; and one grandchild.
Visitation was to be today from noon to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Janet C. Obiyor
Janet C. Obiyor, 65, of 2400-F 12th St. died Nov. 6 at a local hospital. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Royal Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Wendell Thompson officiating.
Burial will be in Obiyor Cemetery in Owerri, Nigeria, with Royal Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters, Esther Igwe of Lagos, Nigeria, Naozi Nrwazema of Owerri and Joy Obiyor of Jos, Nigeria; six sons, Chief Mike Amaike of Aba, Nigeria, Ike Obiyor, Chuks Obiyor, Godwin Obiyor and Chemizie Obiyor, all of Owerri, and George Obiyor of Huntsville; and 20 grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Minerva S. Reeve
Minerva S. Reeve, 91, of 3905 Richland Drive died Wednesday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Twickenham Funeral Home south chapel.
Burial will be Saturday at 9 a.m. in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Reeve was a native of Indianapolis, Ind., and lived in Auburn for many years before moving to Huntsville in 1956. She served as regent of the Auburn DAR and organizer for the Auburn Dames Club. In Huntsville, she was an organizer for the Huntsville Art League and was their second president. She received the national SAR gold medal for organizing the Huntsville SAR chapter. She was also a member of Twickenham Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia R. Monroe and Jo-Ann R. Savas, both of Huntsville; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Twickenham Church of Christ.
Memorial donations may be made to the Kate Duncan Smith Library Fund in Grant.
Ellen D. Sledge
Ellen Darnell Sledge, 41, of 5001 Lumary Drive died Wednesday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Victory Church of God in Christ with Elder Bobby R. Sledge officiating.
Survivors include one daughter, Veronica Pleshette Sledge of Huntsville; two sons, James Lavar Sledge and Demeco ONeal Sledge, both of Huntsville; her mother, Mattie King Sledge of Huntsville; four sisters, Martha Ellen Anderson, Nancy Louise Davis and Evelyn Lenore Sledge, all of Huntsville and Alice Marie Smith of Rogersville; four brothers, Charles Payton Sledge, Jimmy Lee Sledge and Johnny Lee Sledge, all of Huntsville, and Milton Lee Sledge of Louisville, Ky.; and one granddaughter.
Her body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.
Katherine R. Smith
Katherine Reed Smith, 57, of Huntsville died Thursday at her home. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Melvin E. Brown officiating.
Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Smith was formerly of Owens Cross Roads and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, James Smith of Elkmont; five daughters, Kathy Glover and Samantha Mitchelle, both of Elkmont, Marilyn Payne of Toney, Mary Smith of Huntsville and Teresa Wilbanks of Ardmore, Ala.; three sons, James Smith of Madison, Shelby Smith of Toney and Terry Smith of Huntsville; eight sisters, Kaye Clay of Houston, Texas, Mary Ellen Reed, Jean Miller, Jamie Gervais, Barbara Humphrey and Rachel Brown, all of Huntsville, Anita Falconbury of Limestone County and Jewel Reed of Huntsville; two brothers, Roy Reed of Montgomery and David Reed of Morgan City; and 27 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Oscar L. Teal
BOAZ - Oscar Lewis Teal, 46, of 111 North Lakefront St. died Wednesday at his home. The funeral was to be today at 11 a.m. at Carr Funeral Home of Boaz. Burial was to be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Nathan Teal of Boaz; a sister, Christie York of Huntsville; his parents, Dwight and Betty Gamble Teal of Boaz.
Memorial donations may be made to diabetes research in care of Four Star Printing in Boaz.
Guy Thigpen Jr.
ALBERTVILLE - Guy Thigpen Jr., 76, of 210 Holder Ave. died Wednesday at a Gadsden hospital. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home of Albertville.
Burial will be in the Memory Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Thigpen was a member of the Community Baptist Church in Grand Junction, Colo. Survivors include his wife, Willene Thigpen; and one daughter, Margaret Thigpen of Nashville.
Bertha M. Treola
TAFT, Tenn. - Bertha May Treola, 52, of 6 Mikayla Lane died Thursday at her home. The graveside service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens with Bro. Joe Wayne McGee officiating. Higgins Funeral Home will be in charge of burial.
Mrs. Treola was a housewife.
Survivors include her husband, Fred Treola of Taft; two daughters, Dawn Marie Treola and Tammy Lynn Treola, both of Taft; one son, Danny Treola of Fayetteville, Tenn.; her mother, Katherine Ellison of New York; three sisters, Madeline Faye, Alexanderia Wright and Lois Donovan, all of New York; one brother, Julius Ellison of New York; and two grandchildren.
Edward Waldrup
Edward Waldrup, 67, of Huntsville died Wednesday at his home. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Carl Malm officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Mr. Waldrup was a Army Vietnam War veteran and a retired Sgt. 1st Class after 22 years.
Survivors include his wife, Elfriede K. Waldrup of Huntsville; one daughter, Susan E. Owen of Mobile; four sons, Eddie A. Waldrup of Albertville and Roy D. Waldrup, Jerry J. Waldrup and John P. Waldrup, all of Huntsville; three brothers, Bill Waldrup of Jonesville, N.C., Roy Waldrup of New London, N.C., and Lester Waldrup of Jacksonville, Fla.; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
