J.W. Cain
PLEASANT GROVES - J.W. Cain, 62, of Pleasant Groves died Friday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Groves Holiness Church with the Rev. Auther McAllister officiating.
Burial will be in Pleasant Groves Cemetery with Scottsboro Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Cain was a member of the Pleasant Groves Holiness Church and was retired from the Jackson County Public Works Department. He was mayor of Pleasant Groves and was a member of the Pleasant Groves Fire Department where he had served as fire chief.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Skelton Cain; two daughters, Sandra Beard and Kelly Cain, both of Pleasant Groves; three sons, Scott Cain of Rosalie, Greg Cain of Huntsville and Tracy Cain of Pleasant Groves; his mother, Viola Sisk Cain of Pleasant Groves; five sisters, Dorothy Brewer, Frances West, Jean Miller, Trenda McAllister and Janet Cain, all of Pleasant Groves; four brothers, James Cain, Howard Cain, Sam Cain and Jackie Cain, all of Pleasant Groves; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be today at noon at the Pleasant Groves Holiness Church.
Hurl H. Chandler
Mr. Hurl Huel Chandler, 66, of Huntsville died Friday at a local hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Laughlin Funeral Home.
Mr. Chandler was a custom home builder and developer in Huntsville for over 35 years and inducted into the Huntsville/Madison County Builders Association Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy; three daughters, Anita Luna of Cumming, Ga., Kathy Smith and Stephanie Jattuso, both of Huntsville; one brother, Burl Chandler of Huntsville; two sisters, Obera Jester and Jean Stisher, both of Cullman; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Whitesburg Baptist Church.
Chesley J. Donahoo,Jr.
Mr. Chesley J. Donahoo, Jr., 78, of Huntsville died Friday at his home. The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Seanor and Dr. Dennis Wiles officiating.
Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery with Laughlin Service Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Donahoo was a member of the Alabama Baptist Historical Society and the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Donahoo; one daughter, Elaine Quick of Huntsville; four brothers, Edwin Donahoo, Orville Donahoo, Eugene Donahoo and Wilson W. Donahoo all of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one sister, Willene Woodall of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.
James Earl Gideon
MADISON - Mr. James Earl Gideon, 68, died Wednesday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at St. Elizabeth C.P. Church with Rev. John Holden officiating.
Burial will be in Royal Cemetery with Royal Funeral Home in charge.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Leona Gideon; four daughters, Edna Hammonds, Edneva Moore, Pamela Gideon and Theresa Gideon, all of Madison; Four sons, Thomas Gideon, Garry Gideon, James A. Gideon and Jeffery Hughes, all of Madison; two sisters, Annie M. Hafley of Madison and Penny Tramble of Decatur; one brother, Samuel Gideon of Huntsville; 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. His body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.
Mary Hastings
SCOTTSBORO - Mrs. Mary Hastings, 92, of Scottsboro died Friday at a nursing home in Bridgeport. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Rudder Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Venable and Rev. Leon Venable officiating.
Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Hastings was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie Hastings, and two sons, Homer Hastings and Terry Hastings.
Survivors include five daughters, Alice Holder of Annapolis, Md., Earlyne Twining of Taylors Island, Md., Bernice Willis of Sandy Springs, Md., and Brenda Miller and Cleo Venable, both of Scottsboro; one son, Clen Hastings of Scottsboro; one sister, Leola Berry of Winchester, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Kenneth C. Johnson
GUNTERSVILLE - Mr. Kenneth C. Johnson, 78, died Thursday at his home. Guntersville Memorial Chapel will announce a memorial service.
Mr. Johnson was a retired Army officer who served in World War II. He was a retired civil employee of the Army Missile Command in Huntsville. He was the author of the book "Kens Bream Book or How to Take a Kid Fishing".
He is survived by his wife, Betty L. Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital.
Evelyn H. Leslie
Evelyn Henry Leslie, 95, of Huntsville died Wednesday at a local hospital. There will not be a memorial service.
Mrs. Leslie was an Auburn University graduate and a member of Chi Omega and the Culture Club, both in Huntsville.
Survivors include one daughter, Evelyn "Lynne" Hagood of Takoma Park, Md.; two grandsons, Bruce Hagood of Huntsville and Bob Hagood of Cleveland, Tenn.; and one granddaughter, Linda Frost of Kansas City, Kan.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pauline Meredith
ATHENS - Mrs. Pauline Meredith, 69, of Ripley Road died Friday at a local hospital. The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home. Burial will be in Nebo Cemetery.
Mrs. Meredith was a native of Morgan County, a housewife and attended First Independence Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Bivens and Kathy Bivens, both of Athens; two sons, Dwight Meredith of Athens and Buster Meredith of Tunica, Miss.; one stepdaughter, Linda Smith of Elkmont; two sisters, Ruth Barnes of Athens and Doris Daniel of Anderson; one brother, Zeno Dugger of Athens; 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Richard B. Pinion
Richard Benton Pinion, 55, of Huntsville died Wednesday in Gulfport, Miss. A memorial service will be today at 10 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home with Dr. Ralph Langley officiating.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Estelle Pinion of Huntsville; one sister, Gabie Luna of Huntsville; and four brothers, Michael Lee Pinion of Rogersville, Leonard Patrick Pinion of Atlanta, Mark Dennis Pinion of Danville and Sherman Ben Pinion of Antioch, Calif. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Family Cares.
Inda E. Smallwood
HARVEST - Inda Elizabeth Smallwood, 95, died Thursday at a local hospital. The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion Cemetery with Spry Funeral Home in charge.
She was a native of Madison County.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Frances Hughes of Harvest.
William K. Stolz
William Kenneth Stolz, 55, of Huntsville died Thursday at a local hospital. The funeral will be today at 12:30 p.m. at Fords Chapel Cemetery.
Spry Funeral Home will be in charge of burial.
Mr. Stolz was a native of Madison County and was former owner of Kens Heating and Air Conditioning. He was also an Army veteran.
Survivors include his mother, Pearlie Mae Stolz of Huntsville; six brothers, Jerry Stolz, Roger Stolz, Charles Stolz, George Stolz, John L. Stolz and Howard Stolz, all of Huntsville; three sisters, Mary Powell, Ann Ivey and Pauline Ivey, all of Huntsville; and one grandchild.
Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.
Agnes N. Szelich
FLINTVILLE, Tenn. - Agnes N. Szelich, 84, of 152 Vanntown Road died today at a Fayetteville nursing home. The funeral will be today at 10 a.m. at Higgins Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom McElhinney officiating.
Entombment will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Omaha, Neb.
Mrs. Szelich was a native of Omaha and was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Catherine S. McRae of Kansas City, Mo.; two sons, Walter J. Szelich Jr. of Flintville and David J. Szelich of Marietta, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Lela Mae Taylor
Mrs. Lela Mae Taylor, 73, of Huntsville died Wednesday at local hospital. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Nelms Memorial Chapel with Rev. Elton Draper officiating.
Burial will be in Northside Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Carrie T. Hyter and Deloris Taylor, both of Huntsville; one sister, Versie M. Rainey of Huntsville; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Patrick B. Waye Sr.
HARVEST - Mr. Patrick Benjamin Waye Sr., 43, of Harvest died Thursday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home with Rev. George Waggoner officiating.
Entombment will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens with Valhalla Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Waye was a veteran of the Air Force. He was employed by NASA and involved with local youth baseball.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Pascal Waye.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Waye; two sons, Patrick "Ben" Waye Jr. of Florence and Christopher Thomas Waye of Harvest; two sisters, Betty Laymance and Louise Ferguson, both of Tullahoma, Tenn.; two brothers, Billy Waye of Chattanooga and Mike Waye of Winchester, Tenn.; his parents, Dorris and Edna Webb of Tullahoma, Tenn.; his stepmother, Setsuko Waye of Russellville, Ark.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
