Patsy K. Brown
ATHENS - Patsy Kay Brown, 43, of Fifth Avenue died Wednesday at a local hospital. The funeral was today at 10 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home in Athens with Morris Adams officiating.
Burial was in Dement Cemetery.
Mrs. Brown was a native of Limestone County and a homemaker. She attended Sunlight House of Prayer.
Survivors include her mother, Leoma Moore of Athens; three daughters, Tina Brown of Michigan, Brenda Brown and Crystal Pitman, both of Athens; two sisters, Mamie Dugger of Elkmont and Carolyn Green of Athens; five brothers, Scott Cowan of Tennessee, Clayton Cowan and John Wesley Cowan, both of Athens, and Donald Cowan and Monroe Cowan, both of Decatur; two half-brothers, Harvey Lee Cowan of Detroit, Mich., and Bobby Gene Cowan of Athens; her stepfather, Robert Pitman of Athens; and five grandchildren.
Virginia Bush
NEW HOPE - Virginia Bush, 89, of 2713 New Hope Cedar Point Road died Wednesday in Lynchburg, Tenn. The funeral was to be today at 2 p.m. at NewHope Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dewayne Martin officiating.
Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
James W. Covington Sr.
James Walter Covington Sr., 75, of Huntsville died Sunday at a local hospital. A memorial service will be Sunday, May 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Huntsville Botanical Garden Pavilion.
Mr. Covington was a retired pharmacist who helped establish the Academy of Lifetime Learning at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He was a charter member of the Huntsville Botanical Garden and a graduate of Auburn University. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy and served in World War II and the Korean War. He was also on the formation team of the Trinity Adult Center at Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Deane Riley Covington of Huntsville; one son, James Covington Jr. of Tallahassee, Fla.; one daughter, Connie Warren of Orlando, Fla.; and one brother, five sisters and one granddaughter.
Olene P. Garrett
LACEYS SPRING - Olene P. Garrett, 78, died Thursday at her home. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Smith Ledbetter and Eldridge Crisco officiating.
Burial will be in Lipscomb Cemetery in Laceys Spring.
Mrs. Garrett was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Laceys Spring. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Garrett.
Survivors include three daughters, Wilma McCutcheon of Valhermoso Springs, Jo Goodman of Huntsville and Linda Chandler of Laceys Spring; three sisters, Mary Graves of Dora, Leona Graves of Union Hill and Virginia Rozell of Huntsville; three brothers, Onie B. Pike of Ecorse, Mich., Donald Pike of Atlanta and Charles Pike of Laceys Spring; and seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Talmadge E. Glassco
HORTON - Talmadge Earl Glassco, 55, of 6167 Alabama 75 South died Thursday at his home. The funeral will be Saturday 2 p.m. at Albertville Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery.
Survivors include two brothers, Billy Glassco of Horton and James Glassco of Georgia.
Sarah E. Green e
PINEY CHAPEL - Sarah E. Green e, 78, died Thursday at a Decatur hospital. The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Taylor-Ardmore Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Cecil Prescott and Scott Turner officiating.
Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Elmer Green e.
Survivors include one son, Arthur "Buddy" Green e of Elkmont; four daughters, Betty Poole of Nottingham, Pa.; Christina Turner of Decatur, Velma Brooks of Elkmont and Artie Green e of Athens; and 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Heather Holland
WOODVILLE - Heather Holland, 13, of 1180 Butler Mill Road died Tuesday at a Birmingham hospital. The funeral was to be today at 3 p.m. at New Hope First Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Bishop officiating.
Grant Memorial Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of burial.
Miss Holland was diagnosed with leukemia in 1994 and had been an ice skater since before she was 5. She had hoped to compete in the Olympics eventually.
Survivors include her parents, Richard and Phyllis Holland of Woodville; one brother, Richard Trey Holland III; grandparents, Barbara Fleming of Woodville and Faye and Richard Holland Sr. of Adamsville.
Her body will be at the church one hour before the funeral.
Bobby G. Jackson
UNION GROVE - Bobby Gene Jackson, 58, of 14531 U.S. 231 died Thursday at a Birmingham hospital. The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Gober Funeral Home in Arab.
Burial will be in Brookwood Cemetery.
Survivors include one sister, Jo-An Nogin of Tampa; and one brother, Dan Jackson of Arab.
Lola B. Livingston
DECATUR - Lola Bradford Livingston, 91, of 1205 Kathy Lane S.W. died Wednesday at a Falkville nursing home. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle with the Rev. Robert Slack officiating.
Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Livingston was a member of Mount View Baptist Church in Falkville and was preceded in death by her husband, Bronco W. Livingston and one daughter, Dorothy L. Carter.
Survivors include four daughters, Georgia L. Van Devender of Florence, Violet L. Tatum of Lake Charles, La., Willodene Hudson of Gardendale and Helen L. Gowen of Decatur; and 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Catherine D. Pressnell
TONEY - Catherine D. Pressnell, 73, of 19332 East Limestone Road died Wednesday at an Athens hospital. The funeral will be today at 4 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home in Athens with Ray Stonecypher officiating.
Burial will be in Copeland Cemetery.
Mrs. Pressnell was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy ''Dink Pressnell.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Cantrell of Athens; three sons, Kenneth Pressnell of Athens, Ray Pressnell of East Limestone and Larry Pressnell of Toney; and 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Emma Florence Ricks, 73, of Huntsville died Thursday at her home. Twickenham Funeral Home will announce funeral arrangements.

ATHENS - June Betty Schniepp of 300 Hoffman St. died Thursday at her home. Limestone Chapel Funeral Home will announce funeral arrangements.
Dorothy M. Sommer
Dorothy Mae Sommer, 72, of Huntsville died Wednesday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Sunday at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Hal Oakley officiating.
Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Sommer was a native of Waverly, Ky., and had lived in Madison County 12 years. She retired from Western Electric after 24 years and was member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Moose Lodge.
Survivors include her husband, Bernard Sommer of Huntsville; five daughters, Bernedean Mefford of Owens Cross Roads, Margo Prindle of Wilmington, Ill., Martha Sue Roland of Joliet, Ill., Peggy Everhart of Lemont, Ill., and Tammy Thomas of Huntsville; one son, Ralph Edward Sommer of Rowlett, Texas; four sisters, Frances Polley and Margaret Johnson, both of Waverly, Ruth Clark of Shoney Town, Ill., and Alberta Willet of Sturgis, Ill.; two brothers, Billy Yates and Louis Yates, both of Henderson, Ky.; and 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Deward E. Taylor
HARTSELLE - Deward E. "Pete" Taylor, 77, died Wednesday at his home. The funeral will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Harold Fanning and the Rev. Randy Sharpe officiating.
Burial will be in Shoal Creek Cemetery.
Mr. Taylor was a native of Morgan County and a 41-year member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Wiggington Taylor; and one daughter, Phyllis Taylor Sharp.
Survivors include two sons, Stan Taylor of The Woodlands, Texas, and Gary Taylor of Somerville; two daughters, Susan Tuder of Huntsville and Laurie Bryant of Hanceville; three sisters, Agnes Pierce of Somerville, Olene Ogles of Cary, N.C., and Susan Erma Taylor of Somerville; and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Kathryn M. Turner
HAZEL GREEN - Kathryn M. Turner, 90, died Wednesday at a local nursing home. The graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Dalton Styes officiating.
Laughlin Service Funeral Home is in charge of burial arrangements.
Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her husband, Henry P. Turner Sr.
Survivors include one daughter, Sara McCain of Delmar, N.Y.; one sister, Madel Jones of Linden; one granddaughter, Patricia Merritt of Stone Mountain, Ga.; and two great-granddaughters and two nephews.

Rolf W. Landauer
BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. - Rolf W. Landauer, who helped bring the concept of information into the mainstream of physics, died Tuesday of brain cancer. He was 72.
Landauers landmark work in the early 1960s helped show that the binary code of ones and zeroes that runs computers was tangible.
Landauer, who worked at IBMs Thomas J. Watson Research Center, pioneered the exploration of the theoretical limits of computers in terms of power, speed and memory capacity.
Arthur Schawlow
STANFORD, Calif. - Arthur Schawlow, co-inventor of the laser and a Nobel Prize winner, died Wednesay from pneumonia and congestive heart failure after a battle with leukemia. He was 77.
Schawlow attended the University of Toronto on a mathematics and physics scholarship. A postdoctoral fellowship sent him to Columbia University to work with Charles H. Townes, with whom he later invented the laser. The pair received a patent for their invention in 1960.
