Gertrude Arnold
FAYETTEVILLE - Gertrude Arnold, 79, of Stonebridge Drive died Sunday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Gallant Funeral Home with Elder Bob Bierer officiating.
Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery with Gallant Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Arnold was a native of Lincoln County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Fayetteville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Arnold.
Survivors include two daughters, Faye Collins and Betty Moore, both of Fayetteville; three sisters, Mattie Sue Stewart, Irma Fite, both of Fayetteville, Doris Brown of Huntsville; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marie Wray Bramlett
LACEYS SPRING - Mrs. Marie Wray Bramlett, 78, of Blackground Road died Saturday at a local nursing home. The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at Valhermoso First Christian Church with the Rev. Clint Coffey officiating.
Burial will be in Valhermoso Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Bramlett was assistant manager for G.C. Murphy Co. in Huntsville and was treasurer of Valhermoso First Christian Church for 27 years.
Survivors include her husband, Earnest Bramlett; two sons, James W. Bramlett of Laceys Spring and E. Keith Bramlett of Asheville, N.C.; one daughter, Sandra B. Sims of Laceys Spring; two sisters, Modell Garrison of Union Hill and Annie Ruth Walker of Hartselle; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church Fund, c/o Betty Matkin, P.O. Box 65, Valhermoso Springs, AL 35775.

Pauline D. Bridges
SCOTTSBORO - Pauline Dyer ''Polly Bridges, 76, died Sunday. The funeral was to be today at 8 p.m. at the Scottsboro Funeral Home with the Revs. Darrell Chambers and David Landers officiating.
Burial was to be in Hollywood Cemetery Wednesday.
Mrs. Bridges was a memmber of Robins Street Primitive Baptist Church in Jackson, Tenn.
Mrs. Bridges was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylon R. Bridges.
Survivors include one son, Danny Bridges of Scottsboro; four sisters, Lucille Parmenter of Dyersburg, Tenn., Catherine Braden of Oliver Springs, Tenn., Irene Moss of Clinton, Tenn., and Polly Varnadoe of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; four brothers, W.C. Dyer of Griffith, Ind., Bill Dyer of Marathon, Fla., Fred Tate of Oliver Springs, Tenn., and William Tate of Heron, Ill.; and two grandchildren.

John H. Britton
HAZEL GREEN - John H. Britton, 99, of Bobo Section Road died Saturday at his home. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Gallant Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Coy Brothers officiating.
Burial will be in Briar Fork Cemetery with Gallant Funeral Home in Hazel Green in charge.
Mr. Britton was a native of Madison County and a member of Briar Fork Primitive Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Frances Howard of Hazel Green and Christine Daly of Meridianville; five sons, Robert Britton of Huntland, Tenn., John Clayton Britton and Marvin Britton, both of Hazel Green, Billy Britton of Huntsville and Harvey Britton of Ardmore, Ala.; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 9 p.m.

James E. Cabiness
GURLEY - James Edward Cabiness, 80, of Gurley died Sunday at his home. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Gurley City Cemetery with Chaplain Ronald Bynum officiating.
Burial will be in Gurley City Cemetery with Spry Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Cabiness was a life-long resident of Madison County. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Gurley Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was retired from Thiokol Chemical Corp.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Cabiness Bolden of Big Cove and Susan Cabiness Wright of Gurley; one sister, Marie Hucks of Brownsboro; three granddaughters and a grandson.
Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Family Care.

Ora Jane Meeks
NEW HOPE - Ora Jane Meeks, 93, of 696 Oak Grove Road died Saturday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Tuesday at Mount Zion Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Larry Meeks and the Rev. J.W. Atchley officiating.
Burial will be in Brown Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Schrimsher of New Hope; a son, Earl Meeks of Huntsville; a sister, Millie Lemley of New Hope; a brother, Doc Hunter of New Hope; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be today from 1:30 to 9 p.m.

Lynden H. Shelton
FAYETTEVILLE - Lynden H. Shelton, 82, of 19 Tipton Road died Sunday at a local nursing home. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Carlos Kirkpatrick officiating.
Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery with Higgins Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Shelton was a native of Lincoln County, a veteran of World War II, a member of the Park City Church of Christ and retired from Kraft Foods.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Shelton of Fayetteville; two daughters Marilyn Goodwin and Barbara Butler, both of McDonough, Ga.; a son, Larry Butler of Grenada, Miss.; a sister, Velma Marty of Huntsville; a brother, Gordon Shelton of Fayetteville; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Woodrow W. Stillwell
VINCENT - The Rev. Woodrow Wilson Stillwell, 86, died Saturday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Kilgroe Chapel with the Rev. Clyde Crawford and the Rev. Tom Williams and Clint Mahoney officiating.
Burial will be in Vincent City Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Spradley and Janice Green leaf, both of Huntsville; two sisters, Ernestine Reed of Lanett and Pauline Bracknell of Duncanville; a brother, Raymond P. Still of Lafayette; and four grandchildren.

Hattie L.B. Thomas
Hattie Lorene Brazelton Thomas, 80, of Huntsville died Saturday at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jim Stringfellow officiating.
Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens with Laughlin Service Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Bartow M. Thomas.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Buford of Huntsville; a son, Terry Thomas of Birmingham; a sister, Mildred Brazelton of Huntsville; and two grandchildren, Christie Hunter and Scott Buford.
Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hollis C. Truitt
LEXINGTON - Hollis C. Truitt, 86, of Lexington died Sunday. The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Elkins East Chapel with the Rev. Larry Bullard and Jim Truitt officiating.
Burial will be in Pettus Cemetery.
Mr. Truitt was born in Lauderdale County and was retired from the Lauderdale County Board of Education as a maintenance technician. He was a member of Carpenters Local 109.
Survivors include his wife, Vernice C. Truitt; a daughter, Reba Waits Johnson of Huntsville; a sister, Lillie Bell Michael of Lexington; four brothers, Herbert Truitt of Liberty Grove, Tenn., Robert Truitt of Florence, and Howard Truitt and Herman Truitt, both of Green hill; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elkins East Chapel Funeral Home.

Clifton Fadiman
SANIBEL ISLAND, Fla. - Clifton Fadiman, a writer, book editor, radio and television entertainer, died Sunday. He was 95.
Fadiman most recently served as general editor on several publications, including "World Poetry" and the fourth edition of one of his own works, "The Lifetime Reading Plan."
He penned more than 65 introductions to a wide range of editions including "War and Peace," "The Martian Chronicles" and "Six by Seuss." He was awarded the National Book Award for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters in 1993. In 1985, he was named editor for "A World Treasury of Childrens Literature," Britannica Junior Encyclopedia and the Young Childrens Encyclopedia.
