ATHENS - Charles Marvin Black Jr., 73, of 707 S. Clinton St. died Saturday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral was to be today at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Athens with Dr. Walter Nunn and the Revs. Dusty McLemore and the Dee Lauderdale.
Mr. Black had been an automobile dealer in Athens since 1953 and had been president of Athens Motors since 1969. He was a member of the National Car Dealers Association, the Automobile Association of Alabama and the Athens Automobile Dealers Association.
Mr. Black was a World War II veteran and he served in Europe. He was a member of the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also was a member of the First Baptist Church in Athens.
Survivors include his wife, Maggie Dean Black; two daughters, Susan R. Griffin and Caroleigh Collins; one brother, A.P. Black; and one sister, Sheila Lauderdale, all of Athens; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The body was to be at the church an hour before the funeral.
Alene J. Broad
Alene J. Broad, 65, of Huntsville died Saturday at a local hospital. The graveside service will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Campground Cemetery with Brother Tim Orbison officiating.
Laughlin Service Funeral Home will be in charge.
Mrs. Broad had been owner/operator of Digital Computer Services since 1981.
Survivors include her husband, William M. Broad; one son, Mike Broad, and one daughter, Kathy Broad Hopkins, all of Huntsville; one brother, Andy Floyd of Somerville; four sisters, Shirley K. Brockway and Barbara Medlen, both of Madison, and Sue Floyd and Gail Kinsey, both of Huntsville; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorial donations may be sent to the University of North Alabama softball team or any other youth-oriented sports program.
Kathleen Graham-Gilstrap
Kathleen Graham-Gilstrap, 81, of Huntsville died Saturday. The funeral was to be today at 3 p.m. at Twickenham Funeral Home East chapel with the Rev. Cheryl Russell officiating.
Mrs. Graham-Gilstrap was a native of Virginia but had lived in Huntsville the last 45 years. She was retired from the Army Missile Command, was a member of First United Methodist Church and a member of the Elks Emblem Club.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Gilstrap; one sister, Freda Sanders of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Chris Wysong of Lawrenceville, David Wysong of Lakeland, Fla., and Kim Biggs of Pensacola; and one great-grandchild, Amber Nicole Wysong of Lawrenceville.
Visitation was to be today until 2 p.m. at Twickenham East Chapel.
Memorial donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
Donald G. Green
Donald G. Green, 69, of Huntsville died Sunday at a local hospital. The funeral will be announced by Valhalla Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Leona Green ; one daughter, Linda Beshears of Laceys Spring; two sons, Donald Glenn Green Jr. of Madison and Steven Randall Green of Huntsville; one sister, Peggy Finney of Wesleco, Texas; one brother, Phillip Green of Scottsboro; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Thelma Hobbs
Thelma Hobbs, 75, of Huntsville died Monday at her home. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Booster Graves officiating.
Mrs. Hobbs was a Madison County native and a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Joann Ethridge of Athens, Brenda Bryant of Huntsville and Patsy Osmer of Gurley; two sons, James Robert Hobbs of Huntsville and Billy Ray Hobbs of Harvest; two brothers, Claude Pierce of Fayetteville and Albert Pierce of Harvest; 13 grandchildren; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation is today from 4 to 9 p.m.
Ovie B. Jones
Ovie B. Jones, 73, of Huntsville died Saturday at her home. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Watts officiating.
Survivors include one daughter, Deborah Tansey, and one brother, Billy Barnes, both of Huntsville.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. at Valhalla.

L. Paul Monks
FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. - L. Paul Monks, 70, of 273 Old Huntsville Road died Saturday at a Lincoln County hospital. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home with Brothers Willard Conchin and Jim Swafford officiating.
Mr. Monks was a native of Lincoln County, the owner/operator of Monks Realty Co. and was a member of the Camargo Church of Christ. He was on the board at Lincoln County Bank in Fayetteville.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Towry Monks; six daughters, Janet Steelman, Jane Monks, Julie Faulkner and Jill Linville, all of Fayetteville, Jennifer Stafford of Meridianville and Joan Berry of Hermiston of Hermiston, Oregon; one son, Lawrence Paul ''Larry Monks Jr.; two sisters, Vera Stewart and Frances Gibson; and two brothers, John William Monks Jr. and Maurice Monks, all of Fayetteville; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Robert C. Summer
MUSCLE SHOALS - Robert Calhoun Summer, 42, who worked in Huntsville as a HEMSI paramedic, died Saturday. The funeral was to be today at 2 p.m. at Woodward Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Whatley officiating.
Burial was to be in Colbert Memorial Gardens with Morrison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia in charge.
In addition to being a paramedic, Mr. Summer was a member of Woodward Avenue Baptist. He was born in South Carolina.
He is survived by his mother, Josephine Summer of Muscle Shoals.
The body was to be at the church at 1 p.m. today.
Ertis Andrews
Ertis H. Andrews, 93, of Huntsville died Monday at a local nursing home. The funeral will be announced by Laughlin Service Funeral Home.
Survivors include two daughters, Doris M. Posey of Marietta and Joetta McConas of Huntsville; one son, John W. McGinty Jr. of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
Lila Bailey
IDER - Lila G. ''Bray Bailey, 66, died Monday at a Chattanooga hospital. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Kerby Funeral Home in Henagar with the Rev. Dan Kirkpatrick officiating.
Survivors include her husband, George Bailey; one daughter, Lola Crabtree of Flat Rock; three sons, Nelson Bailey of Ider, Earl Bailey of Pikeville, Tenn., and Don Bailey of Flat Rock; three sisters, Marie Keith of Sylvania and Louise Mooneyham and Mary Bridges, both of Ider; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation was to be today from 1 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ann Burdette
ARDMORE, Tenn. - Ann Burdette, 86, of Huntsville died Saturday in Ardmore. The graveside service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Holly Pond Cemetery in Scottsboro with Spry Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Burdette was a Colorado native and a retiree from Mullins restaurant.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Laura Carpenter
HIGH POINT - Laura Carpenter, 80, died Sunday at her home. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Rainsville Funeral Home with the Rev. Franklin Waldrop and the Rev. Melvin Owens officiating.
Survivors include her husband, Paul E. Carpenter; two daughters, Henrietta A. Mizener of Fort Payne and Laura I. Craig of Hudson, Fla.; one son, Paul E. Carpenter Jr. of Brown City, Mich.; one sister, Mary Ella Wood of New Jersey; 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice or to a favorite charity.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
John R. Faulkner
MADISON - John Richard Faulkner, 59, died Monday in Birmingham. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home chapel.
Mr. Faulkner was a native of Nashville and had lived in Exton, Pa., before moving to Madison in 1992.
Survivors include his wife, Joy Faulkner; two daughters, Mary Goodenough of Madison and Catherine West of Huntsville; one son, John R. Faulkner Jr. of Savannah; two brothers, Charles R. Faulkner of Calhoun, Ga., and Thomas Faulkner of Gadsden; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Spry.
Donald G. Green
Donald G. Green, 69, of Huntsville died Sunday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home with Byron Laird and Tim Rice officiating.
Mr. Green was a member of West Huntsville Church of Christ, a veteran of the Navy and a retiree from civil service at Redstone Arsenal.
Survivors include his wife, Leona Green ; one daughter, Linda Beshears of Laceys Spring; two sons, Donald Glenn Green Jr. of Madison and Steven Randall Green of Huntsville; one sister, Peggy Finney of Wesleco, Texas; one brother, Phillip Green of Scottsboro; and seven grandchildren.

Robert Jordan Sr.
GUNTERSVILLE - Robert Lee Jordan Sr., 74, of Guntersville died Monday at a Huntsville hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Laughlin Service Funeral Home of Huntsville.
Mr. Jordan was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Ann McMurtrie.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Williams of Arizona and Helen Brummett of North Carolina; one son, Robert L. Jordan Jr. of Albertville; and eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Association.

Jimmy Kirkland
SCOTTSBORO - Jimmy Kirkland, 63, died Sunday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral was today at 11 a.m. at Scottsboro Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Hobbs, the Rev. J.A. Linville and the Rev. Bill Lett officiating.
Burial was in Pinehaven Memorial Gardens in Hollywood.
Mr. Kirkland was employed at the Norandal aluminum plant in Scottsboro for 30 years and was a deacon at Center Point Baptist Church in Scottsboro where he had been a member for 31 years.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Kirkland; two daughters, Kathy Lynch of Scottsboro and Pam Linville of Decatur; his mother, Lillian Kirkland of Scottsboro; one sister, Daisy Germany of Chattanooga; and three grandchildren.
Jerry L. Page
WOODVILLE - Jerry Lynn Page, 51, died Sunday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral was to be today at 2 p.m. at Scottsboro Funeral Home with the Rev. Loyle Holt, the Rev. Roger Mardis and Elder Gary Cordes officiating.
Burial was to be in Pinehaven Memorial Gardens in Hollywood.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Rogers Page; one daughter, Rebecca Lynn Page of Woodville; one son, Don Brent Page of Woodville; and one sister, Peggy Skelton of Scottsboro.
Memorial donations may be made to Big Oak Ranch in Gadsden.
Cleo Mae Pickens
Cleo Mae Pickens, 60, of 1544 Beard St. died Friday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral will be Friday at noon at St. James P.B. Church with the Rev. Billy Jones officiating.
Burial will be in Northside Cemetery with Royal Funeral Home in charge.
Survivors include seven sisters, Catherine B. Jackson, Stella Matkins, Mozella Davis, Clara Draper, Georgia Humphrey, Alma Battle and Louise Nobles; and three brothers, Mose Battle Jr., Felix Battle and Frank Battle, all of Huntsville.
The body will be at the church an hour before the funeral.
Freeda Pressnell
ATHENS - Freeda Mae Pressnell, 72, of 218 Hine St. died Monday at an Athens hospital. The funeral will be announced by Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.
Kurtis Rahn
ATLANTA - Kurtis James Rahn, 40, formerly of Huntsville, died Saturday. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Huntsville United Church of Christ by the Rev. Allen Hollis and Pastor James Norris.
Mr. Rahn was a freelance graphic designer at the time of his death and had majored in marketing at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and Georgia State University. He attended Randolph School and Grissom High School and graduated from Buckhorn High School in 1975.
Known to be one of the longest living AIDS survivors in the Southeast according to his physicians at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Mr. Rahn was instrumental in founding the Georgia chapter of the National Association of People With AIDS, NAPWA, now called the AIDS Survival Project. The agency provided support and comfort to many AIDS patients.
Survivors include his mother, Frances Rahn Campbell of Huntsville; his sister and brother-in-law, Leslie and Frank Gaidjunes of Alpharetta, Ga.; and a niece.

Millie Shirley
CULLMAN - Millie Lawson Shirley, 82, died Sunday at a local hospital. The funeral was to be today at 2 p.m. at Carr Funeral Home in Boaz.
Survivors include two daughters, Doris Croft of Crossville and Linda Coby of Boaz; two sons, Richard Lawson and Phillip Lawson, both of Albertville; one sister, Ruby Rector of Chattanooga; one brother, Charles Coffett of Madison; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
John Simpson
DECATUR - John Simpson, 86, of Decatur died Monday at a Decatur hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sharpley Funeral Home of Decatur.
William Summerour
HENAGAR - William Berry Summerour, 98, died Monday in Chattanooga. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Kerby Funeral Home in Henagar.
Mr. Summerour was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Summerour.
Survivors include one daughter, Nelda Ortiz of Scottsboro; one son, Robert Summerour of Hixson, Tenn.; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Winifred Watters
FLORENCE, Ky. - Winifred Harriet Watters, 84, of Huntsville died Sunday at a Kentucky hospital. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home hospital with the Rev. Joe Estes officiating.
Mrs. Watters was a Pittsburg native and had lived in Huntsville since 1957.
Survivors include one daughter, Jennie Hendrix of Union, Ky.; two sons, Harry H. Watters of Huntsville and Gregory P. Watters of Middletown, Md.; two sisters, Delores Hepburn and Lou Ella Shearer, both of Hyde Park, Pa.; one brother, Floyd Alber of Marienville, Pa.; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
