Clara R. Bone
Clara R. Bone, 73, of Huntsville died Saturday at a local hospital. The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Dan Summerlin officiating.
Burial will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. in Mount Hope Cemetery in Franklin, Tenn.
Mrs. Bone was an active member of University Baptist Church where she was involved with Jubilee Singers and Live Wires. She had lived in Huntsville since 1968 and was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Bone.
Survivors include one sister, Cora Johnson of Nashville; and 17 nieces and nephews including Jane Ross, Cindy Mull and John Reeves, all of Huntsville; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be today from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the International Mission Board, 3806 Monument St., Box 6767, Richmond, Va., 23230.

Hubert A. Brown
HARTSELLE - Hubert Andrew Brown, 79, died Saturday in Falkville. Peck Funeral Home will announce funeral arrangements.

Jennie E. Carden
FALKVILLE - Jennie Ellen Carden, 89, died Friday in Hartselle. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Deiterle Memorial Home P.C. in Aurora, Ill.
Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park in Aurora.
Mrs. Carden was a native of Morgan County. She was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Carden; and five sons, George L. Carden Jr., Claude Carden, Clarence Carden, Charles Carden and Max Carden.
Survivors include four sons, John Frank Carden of Falkville, Robert Howard Carden Sr. of Lampe, Mo., Billy Wayne Carden of Chicago and David Michael Carden of Orlando Park, Ill.; two daughters, Betty Ann Jacobs of New Albany, Miss., and Peggy Jean Perkey of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Mollie Davis of Falkville; and 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle.

Willa D. Freeman
ATHENS - Willa Dean Freeman, 61, of Athens died Friday at a local hospital. The graveside service will be today at 3:30 p.m. at Myers Cemetery with Bobby Pepper and Jimmy Cox officiating.
Spry Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of burial.
Mrs. Freeman was a native of Limestone County and a homemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Tonya Freeman of Athens; one sister, Doris Wilson of Athens; one brother, Larry Baugher of Prospect, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles E. Hopper Sr.
Charles Ewing Hopper Sr., 77, of Huntsville died Wednesday at his home. The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Edward C. Gartrell officiating and full military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Jackson Hopper of Huntsville; two sons, Charles Ewing Hopper Jr. and Edward Given Hopper, both of Huntsville; two daughters, Nona Hopper Campbell and Carol Hopper Fandre, both of Huntsville; two sisters, Anne Hopper Johnson of Albuquerque, N.M., and Mildred Hopper Clisson of Huntsville; two stepsons, Turner Jackson of Cleveland, Tenn., and Jim Jackson of Piedmont, S.C.; two stepdaughters, Jeanie Gonsewski of Harvest and Kay Stephenson of Huntsville; and two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Huntsville, 215 Abingdon Ave., Huntsville, 35801.

Cecil W. Milligan
Cecil Wayne Milligan, 82, of Huntsville died Saturday at his home. The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Twickenham Funeral Home South chapel with the Rev. Thomas Ackerman officiating.
Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Milligan was a World War II veteran and a member of the Lions Club.
Survivors include five daughters, Patricia Blackwell of Tennessee, Marnie Boffemmyer of Edgewood, Ky., and Jill Gibb, Jan Ratcliffe and Anne Wesley, all of Huntsville; one sister, Polly Stegmiller of Columbus, Ohio; and one grandchild, two great-grandchildren and one nephew.
Visitation will be today from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Salvation Army.

Joseph Nolan
ATHENS - Joseph Nolan, 60, of Black Road died Saturday at a local hospital. Limestone Chapel Funeral Home will announce funeral arrangements.

Leon Orr
FALKVILLE - Leon Orr, 90, died Saturday at a Hartselle hospital. Peck Funeral Home will announce funeral arrangements.

James A. Putman Jr.
ATHENS - James Arville Putman Jr., 56, of Edgewood Road died Friday in Lewisburg, Tenn. The funeral will be today at 1:30 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home of Athens with Bobby Marks officiating.
Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Putman was a native of Limestone County, a member of Blackburn Road Baptist Church and a retired carpenter from Calhoun Community College.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Putman; one son, James Randall Putman of Athens; two daughters, Melissa Lipinski and Mignon Thames, both of Athens; one stepson, Douglas Morgan of Athens; one stepdaughter, Sandra Lewis of Athens; one sister, Patricia Turner of Athens; and 12 grandchildren.

Leonard M. Taylor
Leonard Morgan Taylor, 90, of Huntsville died Friday. The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Big Cove Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Dr. John David Hall and the Rev. C.E. Herring officiating.
Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery with Laughlin Service Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Taylor spent most his life in Big Cove and was a store owner for 33 years. He had also been a car salesman. He was a director of the Big Cove Water and Fire Protection Authority for several years, an elder at the church more than 50 years and a Shriner.
Survivors include one grandson, Granville Taylor of Sarasota, Fla.; and four nephews and one niece.
Memorial donations may be made to the church memorial fund.

Iris C. Walter
UNION GROVE - Iris C. Walter, 87, of Union Grove, died Friday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Rescue Methodist Church.
Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Arab Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in charge.
Survivors include two sisters, Jewel Green haw of Union Grove and Dorothy Sieja of Huntsville; four grandchildren, Candace Walter Whisenant of Union Grove, Mark Walter of Mobile, Matthew Walter of Somerville and Daniel Walter of Laceys Spring; four great-great-grandchildren.
The body will be at the church today from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church.

Estelle C. Whitworth
ATHENS - Estelle C. Whitworth, 88, of 27220 Newby Road died Friday at a Huntsville nursing home. The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Madison City Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Woods officiating.
Limestone Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of burial.
She attended Bethel Church of Christ and was preceded in death by her husband, Walter T. Whitworth.
Survivors include one son, William Archie Whitworth of Madison; one daughter, Marjorie Dunnivant of Athens; three brothers, R.O. Crutcher of Hazel Green and Malcom David Crutcher of Toney; and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Penelope Mortimer
LONDON - Penelope Mortimer, whose semi-autobiographical stories explored the emotional impact of failing marriages among the British upper classes, died Tuesday. She was 81.
Many of Ms. Mortimers dozen novels were well-received, and her 1962 novel, "The Pumpkin Eater," was made into a film starring James Mason and Anne Bancroft. She also wrote two acclaimed volumes of memoirs and several television screenplays.
Ms. Mortimer published her first novel, "Johanna," in 1947 under the name Penelope Dimont. At the time she had been married for 10 years to the journalist Charles Dimont. Divorced by 1949, she married John Mortimer.
The first volume of her memoirs, "About Time," won the Whitbread Prize in 1979. The second part, published in 1993, included a frank account of her troubled marriage to Mortimer, which ended in 1972.
In 1986, she published "Queen Elizabeth: A Life of the Queen Mother."
