NEW MARKET - Jonathan Wayne Barrows, 19, died Thursday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Joe Durham officiating.
Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park in Sykesville, Md., with Spry Funeral Home directing local arrangements.
Mr. Barrows was formerly of Carroll County, Md., and a 1997 graduate of North Carroll High School in Carroll County.
Survivors include his parents, Shirley and Merle Barrows of New Market; one sister, Stephanie Vinge of Beverly Hills, Calif.; one brother, Kevin Barrows of Westminster, Md.; and his grandparents, Mary Anderson of Laurel, Mont., and Alma and Thomas Wright of Carroll County, Md.
Oba E. Belcher
ATHENS - Oba E. Belcher, 74, of Green way Drive died Saturday at his home. The funeral will be announced by Spry Funeral Home.
Mr. Belcher was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and a former coach and educator at Athens State University.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Belcher; one daughter, Leah Oakley of Athens; one son, Dewayne Belcher of Bluefield, Va.; and four grandchildren.
Elma Bouldin
CROSSVILLE - Elma Bouldin, 94, died Saturday at a local nursing home. The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church.
Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Albertville Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
James T. Cook Jr.
BOAZ - James Talant Cook Jr., 67, of 828 Brock Road died Saturday at a Birmingham hospital. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Church.
Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Adams Funeral Home of Albertville directing.
Survivors include his wife, Venes P. Cook; one daughter, Melba G. Pierce of Kilpatrick; three sons, Christopher Len Cook of Boaz, Earnest Dale Cook of Asbury and Talant Jamar Cook of Horton; one foster son, Shannon Clark of Kokomo, Ind.; one stepbrother, Jimmy Cordell of Asbury; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Samuel L. Crownover
Samuel Lewis Crownover, 96, of Huntsville died Thursday at a local nursing home. The funeral will be in Youngstown, Ohio, and will be announced later.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Youngstown with Spry Funeral Home directing local arrangements.
Mr. Crownover was a native of Lewistown, Pa., and lived in Huntsville for the past 31 years.
Survivors include one son, William S. Crownover of Huntsville; and two grandchildren, Sharon Crownover of Nashville and Bill Crownover of Livingston.
Memorial donations may be sent to a favorite charity.
Mildred F. Gray
LESTER - Mildred Florence Gray, 92, of 28980 Alabama 99 died Saturday at an Athens hospital. The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Craigs Chapel Church of Christ with Van Bowers and Greg Chandler officiating.
Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery with McConnell Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Gray was a native of Limestone County, a member of Craigs Chapel Church of Christ and was preceded in death by her husband, Lerman Gray.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce McGill of Oneonta and Dorothy Eubanks of Nashville; one son, James William Gray of Decatur; one sister, Nella Townsend of Lester; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Daniel R. Grubbs
DAWSON, Ala. - Infant Daniel Robert Grubbs died Saturday at a DeKalb County hospital. The graveside service will be today at 2 p.m. at Friendship Cemetery in Dawson.
Survivors include his parents, Robert and Janene Grubbs; one sister, Savannah Grubbs of Dawson; and his grandparents, Russell Grubbs of Florida and Don and Shirley Keeney of Arkansas.
Robert L. Hughes
Robert L. Hughes, 73, of Huntsville died Friday at his home. The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Ben Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa Ann Hughes; five stepdaughters, Virginia Bragg Johnson of Huntsville, Linda Bragg Cloud of Madison, Barbara Bragg Fisher of Meridianville, Peggy Bragg OBrian of Green eville, Tenn., and Rebecca Bragg Nevel of Forney, Texas; two sisters, Louise Graves of Gadsden and Oveline Sullivan of San Diego; 18 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m.
Jeffie Matthews
SCOTTSBORO - Jeffie Matthews, 93, died Friday at his home. The funeral will be today at 1:30 p.m. at Scottsboro Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Venable officiating.
Burial will be in Pinehaven Memorial Gardens in Hollywood.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Mae Matthews; five daughters, Shirley Rogers of Woodville, Carolyn Kirby of Hollywood and Joyce Matthews, Brenda Warren and Karen Murphy, all of Scottsboro; three sons, Sherman Matthews, Rayford Matthews and Wiley Matthews, all of Scottsboro; one sister, Pearl Houston of Scottsboro; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Jay M. McCormick
Jay M. McCormick, 89, of Huntsville died Saturday at a local hospital. The funeral will be announced later by Spry Funeral Home.
Mr. McCormick was born in Coffee County, Tenn., lived for many years in Madison County and was a retired textile worker.
Survivors include one son, Marion "Buddy McCormick of Huntsville; four daughters, Jadena Bridges of Huntsville, Pat Pepper of Athens, Nina Green e of Madison and Ann Ellard of Jacksonville, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Bonnie Louise Phillips
BOAZ - Bonnie Louise Phillips, 70, of 206 Mount Vernon Homes died Friday in a local hospital. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Whitesboro Baptist Church.
Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Carr Funeral Home of Boaz directing.
Survivors include six daughters, Sandra Curtis and Patricia Downer, both of Albertville, and Shelby Phillips, Corlis Copeland, Teresa Cook and Marsha Barclay, all of Boaz; two sons, Jerry Phillips and Alan Phillips, both of Attalla; four sisters, Bessie Shannon of Cullman, Ruth Lacks of Boaz, Connie Dempsey of Arkadelphia and Betty Pugh of Vinemont; one brother, James Childers of Tuscaloosa; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Douglas O. Russell
ATHENS - Douglas Oneal Russell, 55, of 506 Brookwood Dr. died Friday in Mississippi. A graveside service will be today at 2 p.m. at Athens City Cemetery with Dusty McLemore officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Russell was a retired special education teacher with the Athens school system and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Wren Russell; three daughters, Lanita Kay Russell of Birmingham, Alice Leigh Russell and Amy Marie Russell, both of Athens; his mother, Gladys Ware Russell of Athens; one sister, Juanita Miller of Athens; and two brothers, Bobby Russell of Tishomingo, Miss., and Billy Russell of Athens.
Memorial donations may be made to Lindsay Lane Baptist Church Building Fund.
Rena Sue Shankles
ALBERTVILLE - Rena Sue Shankles, 65, of 130 Goodwin Road died Saturday at her home. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home in Albertville.
Burial will be in Marshall Memorial Garden.
Survivors include one daughter, Denise Vaughn of Albertville; one son, Thomas Shankles of Albertville; her father, Daniel Stephens of Albertville; three sisters, Nell Sampson, Betty Champion and Sheila Reeves, all of Albertville; five brothers, Sammy Stephens, Benward Stephens, Bobby Stephens and Jerry Stephens, all of Albertville, and Jimmy Stephens of Gadsden; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Chad Lee Smith
FAYETTEVILLE - Chad Lee Smith, 21, of Bugger Hollow Road died Friday at a Huntsville hospital. The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Gallant Funeral Home with the Rev. Peter Van Eys and the Rev. Joel Carwile officiating.
Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was a Lincoln County native, a member of Ardmore Methodist Church and a service technician with Home Town Builders in Ardmore, Tenn.
Survivors include his parents, Ricky and Shirley King Smith; one sister, Jessica Smith, all of Fayetteville; and his grandparents, Donnie King of Athens, Ethel Rogers of Ardmore, Tenn., and Fred and June Smith of Fayetteville.
Clyde E. Smith
CROSSVILLE - The Rev. Clyde E. Smith, 83, died Friday at a Guntersville nursing home. The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Albertville Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Brackett of Boaz; three sons, Benny Smith and Phillip Smith, both of Boaz, and Kenneth Smith of Crossville; two sisters, Estelle Underwood and Marita Alexander, both of Boaz; two brothers, Coy Smith of Boaz and Arthur Smith of Anniston; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

GUNTERSVILLE - Ray Stanley Sparks, 64, of 3812 McCoy St. died Friday at his home. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at East Lake Baptist Church.
Burial will be in Rehobeth Cemetery with Carr Funeral Home of Guntersville directing.
Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Pelham and Beth Hodges, both of Guntersville; one sister, Louise Simmons of Guntersville; and six grandchildren.
