Julia Posey

Julia 'Judy' Posey, a lifelong Mobilian and supporter of many cultural activities in Mobile, died Tuesday after a lengthy illness. She was 60.

Mrs. Posey, whose parents were the late Joseph and Mary Janet Roe, was the granddaughter of Gordon and Mary Pollman Smith. Smith was founder of Smith Bakery. Mrs. Smith was the sister of Fred Pollman, the founder of Pollman's Bakery. In addition, another grandfather, Joe Walsh, founded Walsh Stevedoring Co. Survivors include her husband, James H. Posey; a son, James H. "Jimbo" Posey Jr.; two daughters, Mary Josephine "Jody" Skinner and Jane Kirkpatrick; two sisters, Jane Burton and Jackie Posey; and four grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. today at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, with visitation in the Marion Center from noon until service time. Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway is handling arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 3280 Dauphin St., Suite B-127, Mobile, AL 36606.

Paul Pugh

Paul Pugh, a former silver miner, died Monday at a local hospital at the age of 87.

Pugh, a native of Burnt Corn, Ala., was a resident of Mobile.

Survivors include four children; two sisters, Stella Williamson and Ann Robinson; and three brothers, Elijah Pugh, Carl Pugh and Vernon Pugh.

Visitation will be at 9 a.m. today at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, with graveside services at 10 a.m. in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Allen H. Reed

CAMDEN - Allen Howell Reed, a former self-employed carpenter, died Monday in Camden. He was 99.

Reed was a former resident of Evergreen and had recently moved to Camden.

Survivors include his wife, Bessie Reed of Camden; a daughter, Edith Nell Hamil of Madison, Miss.; five sons, James Willard Reed of Huntsville, John H. Reed of Northport, Ala., Phillip W. Reed of Franklin, N.C., Oscar H. Reed of Gulf Shores and Louis S. Reed of Evergreen; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services are set for 10 a.m. today at Cope Funeral Home in Evergreen, with burial in Holly Grove Cemetery.

Arthur Brown

Arthur Brown, who had worked as a laborer in the asphalt business, died Wednesday at a local hospital. He was 92.

Brown was a Greenville native and a Chunchula resident.

He is survived by three sons, Tommie Brown of Chunchula, Johnnie Brown of Columbus, Ga., and Robert Garner of Pascagoula, Miss.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday -NTat Starlight Full Gospel Church in Chunchula, with services to follow. Burial will be in Starlight Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Reese Funeral Home in Prichard.

Gladys Pope Collins

Gladys Pope Collins, a member of St. James Major Catholic Church in Prichard, died Friday in a local health care facility. She was 74.

Mrs. Collins was formerly employed by Haas Davis Meat Packing Co., Twin Oaks Nursing Home and Courtaulds Inc.

She is survived by her husband, Randolph S. Collins of Prichard; three brothers, Milton Pope Sr. and Leroy Pope, both of York, Ala., and Connie Pope of Albany, Ala.; and two sisters, Daisy Eady of Savannah, Ga., and Louise Alexander of York.

Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Major Catholic Church, with graveside services at 10 a.m. in Whispering Pines Cemetery. Reece Funeral Home in Prichard handled arrangements.

Lewis Kirksey

Lewis "Bubba" Kirksey, a retiree of Mobile Gas Co., died Wednesday at a local health care facility. He was 86.

Kirksey was a member of Bethel AME Church, where he served as a deacon for more than 41 years, and a member of St. John Lodge No. 2 F&AM.;

He is survived by one son, Joe Lewis Kirksey of Mobile; one sister, Mittie Dortch of New York; one brother, Leonard Kirksey of Mobile; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel AME Church. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with services to follow. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery.

John M. McFayden

John Maxie McFayden, a World War II veteran, died Friday in a local nursing facility. He was 81.

McFayden was a native and lifelong resident of Mobile. He was a graduate of McGill Institute and a member of the McGill-Toolen Sports Hall of Fame. McFayden served in Company B of the 125th Armored Engineer Battalion during World War II. He was a longtime member of Little Flower Catholic Church and a member of the Holy Name Society.

He is survived by two sons, John B. McFayden and Chris J. McFayden, both of Mobile; one daughter, Brenda Barter of Mobile; one sister, Aline Huffman of Birmingham; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at Radney Funeral Home with the Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Little Flower Catholic Church. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Allen Memorial Home, 713 S. Washington Ave., Mobile, AL 36603.
