William J. Rimes, S.J.
OAK HARBOR, WASH - William J. Rimes, S.J., former president of Spring Hill College, died July 27 at his sister's home. He served as the 32nd president of the college from 1966 to 1972. During that time, he was responsible for numerous changes, including the construction of Yancey Hall, the biology building; O'Leary Hall, the women's dormitory; and Diegnan Hall, the chemistry building.
Before and after his tenure as president, he served as a chemistry professor. He began his career there in 1951, retiring in 1982 to take a position as parish priest at Our Lady of Perpetual Help then later pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, both in Siloam Springs, Ark.
Rimes attended Spring Hill College as an undergraduate in 1935, then left to receive his religious training in Grand Coteau, La. He returned to the college and received his bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1943.
Rimes had been a Jesuit for 63 years and a priest for 50 years.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in Washington in July.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Chapel. His cremated remains will be buried in the Jesuit Cemetery at Spring Hill College.

Joshua B. Head
Joshua Brandon Head, an infant, died Wednesday at a local hospital.
Survivors include his parents, Jeremy and Marti Head; a brother, Jared Carbonneau; maternal grandparents, Doyle and Sheila Williams; paternal grandparents, Gilbert and Diane Head; and maternal great-grandparents, Wallace and Grace Lee, all of Mobile; and paternal great-grandmothers, Edna Doody of New Jersey and Josephine Head of Florida.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

Lelton Looney
Lelton "Dick" Looney, who retired from Brookley Air Force Base as a paint and cleaner foreman, died Thursday at his home in Eight Mile. He was 82.
Looney was a native of northern Alabama. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lois Stevens Looney of Eight Mile; six children, Lelton Ray Looney of Alexandria, La., Wayne Looney and Judy Wallace, both of Eight Mile, Betty Henries of Bon Secour, Jean Pierce of Waynesboro, Miss., and Mary E. Fail of Semmes; two sisters, Lena Holifield and Annie Holifield, both of Laurel, Miss.; 21 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services are set for 2 p.m. today at Valhalla Memorial Funeral Home in Semmes, with burial in Valhalla Memorial Gardens.

George L. Strauser
DAUPHIN ISLAND - George Lee Strauser, who formerly worked as a steel fabricator, died Thursday at the age of 58.
Strauser, a U.S. Air Force veteran, was a native of St. Louis and resident of Dauphin Island for the past 10 years.
Survivors include his mother, Bonnie M. Strauser of Frisco City, Ala.; two daughters, Leeann Marie Strauser of Kansas City, Mo., and Kim Strauser of Green Bay, Wis.; a stepson, Terry Wilkerson of St. Louis; three sisters, Shirley Westfall and Dodie Simms, both of Dauphin Island, and Patricia Johnson of Frisco City; and a brother, Buford Strauser of Wentzville, Mo.
Services are set for 1 p.m. today at St. Francis Episcopal Church on Dauphin Island, with visitation from 11 a.m. until services. Burial will be in Dauphin Island Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wolfe Funeral Home of Fairhope.

Peter Sykes
Peter "Pop" Sykes, who had worked as a laborer, died Sept. 4 at a local hospital.
Sykes, 59, was a lifelong Mobilian.
Survivors include four brothers, Clifton Sykes of Hillside, N.J., David Sykes of California, and Douglas Sykes and Phillip Burden, both of Mobile; seven sisters, Mary Henson of Newark, N.J., Tina Henson of Hillside, and Juanita Frazier, Madeline Kidd, Elouise Turner, Inez Lorraine Hill and Renae Hickbottom, all of Mobile.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. Viewing will also be after 9 a.m. Monday at Revelation Missionary Baptist Church, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services. Burial will be in Whispering Pines Cemetery.

William S. Turner Jr.
CITRONELLE - William Samuel Turner Jr., a retired manager, died Thursday at a local hospital. He was 66.
Turner, a native of Neely, Miss., was a resident of Citronelle, where he was known as "Mr. Ben Franklin" because he managed the Ben Franklin Store.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Turner was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Emogene Turner; and a son, Richard Turner, both of Citronelle; two daughters, Sheryl Cavanagh of Dallas and Donna Bordeaux of Grand Bay; a brother, Joe Turner of Hattiesburg, Miss.; three sisters, Irene Prince of Jonesboro, Ark., Jackie Aversa of Jersey City, N.J., and Ann Williams of Hattiesburg; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle, where services are set for 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery in Citronelle.

James D. White Sr.
James D. "J.D." White Sr., a member of Mount Ararat Missionary Baptist Church, died Thursday at his home in Theodore. He was 64.
White, affectionately known as "Chief" to family and friends, was a native of Beaumont, Miss.
At church, he served as a trustee.
Survivors include his wife, Laura D. White of Theodore; seven children, Juan White, Felecia Abrams, Lucrese Davis, Charmaine Wilks, Faye White and James White, all of Theodore, and Sonja Pena of Savannah, Ga.; three brothers, Lewis White, Amos White and John White, all of Theodore; two sisters, Celestine Guy and Earnestine Jones of Mobile; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Monday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. Viewing will also be after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Ararat Missionary Baptist Church on Washington Boulevard in Theodore, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Cemetery.
