John Byrd
WAVELAND, Miss. - John "Joe" Byrd, a native of Brewton, Ala., and resident of Waveland, died of natural causes Saturday in Waveland at the age of 56.
Byrd had worked as a laborer with the city of Bay St. Louis, Miss.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Ellis of Waveland and Dianne Kennedy of Bay St. Louis; five brothers, Robert Byrd of Mobile, Ralph Byrd, Edward Byrd and Thomas Byrd, all of Brewton, and Eugene Byrd of Allon, Nev.; four sisters, Louise Hale and Callimay Lee, both of Brewton, Doris Odom of Allon and Edna Murphy of Mobile; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Riemann Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the 3 p.m. services. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Rotten Bayou, Miss.

Edith S. Emerson
Edith Strachan Emerson, 63, who had worked for 35 years as a hairdresser before retiring, died Tuesday at her Mobile home.
Survivors include four children, Dennis Emerson Jr., Cynthia McGill and David Emerson, all of Mobile, and Debbie Colvert of Semmes; four sisters, a brother; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be this evening from 5 to 8 at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street, with the rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with burial at New Hope Cemetery.

Eugene C. deRosett
Eugene C. deRosett, who had worked in electronics installation as a civil service employee, died Monday at a local hospital. He was 77.
A Kentucky native, deRosett was a longtime resident of Mobile and was a member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. During World War II, deRosett served with the 31st Infantry "Dixie" Division.
Survivors include his son, Ron deRosett of Carson City, Nev.; a brother, Darvin deRosett of Pierceton, Ky.; two sisters, Ann Hughes of Pierceton and Ruth Ousley of Prestonburg, Ky.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service is set for 10 a.m. today at Dauphin Way Baptist Church, with burial at 4 p.m. at Sims Cemetery in Morton, Miss.
Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street is handling local arrangements.

Gladys M. Thompson
Gladys Marie Thompson, who worked at the University of South Alabama Medical Center, died Thursday.
Ms. Thompson, 59, was a Wilmer native and resided in Mobile. She was a member of Moffettville Baptist Church in Wilmer.
Survivors include her son, Lionel Thompson of Mobile; six brothers, Ellis Thompson Jr., Eugene Thompson and Lonnie Thompson, all of Mobile, Frank Thompson, David Thompson and Albert Thompson, all of Wilmer; and three sisters, Ida Mae Thompson of Wilmer, Ruthie Thompson and Elnetta Anderson, both of Mobile.
Viewing will begin at noon Friday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home, with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. A second viewing Saturday is to start after 9 a.m. at Moffettville Baptist Church, with a second visitation from 10 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Moffettville Cemetery.

Norma Jean Arnett
Norma Jean Arnett, a lifelong Mobilian, died Monday in a local hospital. She was 49.
Survivors include a daughter, Wendy D. Arnett; a son, James W. "Billy" Arnett; her mother and stepfather, Frances and George Barlow; a sister, Patricia Young; a brother, Johnnie Ray Foster; and her grandmother, Jessie L. Lambeth, all of Mobile; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. this evening at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street, where services are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Pierce Creek Cemetery.

Roy Lee Deason Sr.
Roy Lee Deason Sr., who retired from L&N; Railroad after 36 years, died Monday at his home. He was 86.
Deason was a native of Evergreen, Ala., and a longtime resident of Eight Mile.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Deason of Eight Mile; a daughter, Pat Byrd of Citronelle; two sons, Roy Deason Jr. of Carnesville, Ga., and Steve Deason of New Orleans; two brothers, Marvin Deason of Evergreen and John Edward Deason of Cheltenham, Md.; a sister, Grace Bailey of Evergreen; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Valhalla Memorial Funeral Home in Semmes, where services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Gardens.

Thomas Edwards Jr.
Thomas Edwards Jr., who had been employed as an ironworker and a shipfitter at a number of local shipyards, died Friday at a local hospital. He was 62.
A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Edwards was a Mobile resident for more than 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Jewel Edwards of Mobile; five sons, Thomas Edwards III of Irvington, Curtis Woods of Mobile, William Edwards and Danny Edwards, both of Miami, and Bill Woods of Missouri; six daughters, Linda Edwards, Shirley Edwards, Susan Edwards and Mechelle Woods, all of Mobile, Raychelle Woods of Satsuma and Tammy Hicks of Irvington; a sister, Nancy Osiecki of West Chester, Pa.; two brothers, William F. Edwards and Al Edwards, both of Woodbury, N.J.; and 14 grandchildren.
Visitation took place Sunday at Gilmer's Funeral Service on Zeigler Boulevard. There will be no services.
