Alabama, U.S., County Marriage Records, 1805-1967 - 1814-1935

Lois Merle Hebert

Lois Merle Hebert, who formerly owned and operated Lyons Seafood in Heron Bay, died Sunday at a local hospital.

Mrs. Hebert, a native of Peterman, Ala., was a resident of Mobile and former resident of Heron Bay. She was 84.

Survivors include her husband, Louis Hebert of Mobile; three children, Gerri Moiren and Lois E. Moiren, both of Theodore, Charles Lyons Jr. of Heron Bay; two sisters, Hilda Dellatorre and Eleanor Black, both of Mobile; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian burial is celebrated at noon. Burial will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens with Serenity Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Clara M. Pressley

Clara M. Pressley, a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, died Friday at a local hospital.

Mrs. Pressley was a native of Beatrice, Ala., and a resident of Mobile. She was 81.

Survivors include five children, Matthew Pressley, Helen Quiovers, Janice Beard, Vera Bryant and Willie Earl Pressley, all of Mobile; a stepson, Winston Conners of Huntington Station, N.Y.; a sister, Jimmie Stallworth of Beatrice; 13 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1621 Boykin Blvd. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian burial is celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Casher Cemetery.

Lawrence Sullivan Jr.

Lawrence Curtis Sullivan Jr., who had worked as a logger in the timber industry, died Saturday at a local hospital. He was 40.

Sullivan, a native of Washington County, was a resident of Citronelle. He was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lilly B. Sullivan; his mother, Viola Sullivan Campbell; and a son, Randy Farmer, all of Citronelle; two daughters, Paula Jordan of Semmes and Christy Chestang of Citronelle; two brothers, Grady Reed of McIntosh, Ala., and Clint Campbell of Citronelle; eight sisters, Marie Orso, Ziola Reed and Barbara Johnston, all of McIntosh, Hazel Johnston of Theodore, Gertrude Reed, Elizabeth Sullivan and Carol Reed, all of Citronelle, and Billie Jean Sullivan of Miami; and his grandmother, Willamenia Sullivan Campbell of Citronelle.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle. Services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Creek Baptist Church, with burial in Byrd Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Ala.

Milton C. Fuqua Sr.

LAFAYETTE, La. - Milton C. Fuqua Sr., a native Mobilian and longtime resident of Lafayette, died Sunday at his home. He was 78.

Fuqua, known to friends as "Cleve, " had worked as a youth with his family business. In January 1942, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and served as a radio operator on Guadalcanal, in the Philippines, the northern Solomon Islands and New Guinea, attaining the rank of sergeant.

After leaving the Army, he returned to the family business. In 1953, he moved to Lafayette, where he became a partner, then owner of Dixie Exterminating Co. In 1964, he sold his interest and became a chartered life underwriter with Life of Georgia, from which he retired in 1981.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lafayette, a Little League baseball coach and a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, serving for many years as a member of the Eagle Scout Board of Honor at Troop 19.

He was a member of Lafayette Post 241 of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Audrey Hernandez Fuqua of Lafayette; three sons, Patrick Wayne Fuqua and Milton C. Fuqua Jr., both of Lafayette, and Bryan James Fuqua of Scott, La.; a sister, Margaret "Jean" Ross of Mobile; and three grandchildren.

Services are scheduled at 3 p.m. today at Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive in Lafayette, with visitation from 8 a.m. until services. Burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Gardens.

Bertha Faye Alleman

MOBILE - Bertha Faye Alleman, a native of Michigan and a resident of Mobile, died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999. She was 82 years old.

She is survived by her husband, Dale Alleman of Satsuma; one daughter, Billee Jean Fase of Mobile; one son, Robert Alleman of Indian River, Mich.; one brother, Monte Ashton of Ludington, Mich.; one sister, Lillian Steppig of Manistee, Mich.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements were by Fairhope Funeral Home & Crematory.

Harold A. Betancourt

Harold Aloysius Betancourt, a veteran of World War II, died Sunday at a Daphne medical facility after a brief illness. He was 90.

A native of Mobile, Betancourt had attended Convent of Mercy Grade School and McGill Institute.

He had resided in Los Angeles for most of his adult life, retiring from Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Los Angeles in 1963 after nearly 30 years. He returned to Mobile in 1989.

Betancourt is survived by several cousins, including Harold J. Gibson of Mobile and his wife, Lois, who served as his caregivers.

A memorial Mass will be announced by Radney Funeral Home.

Ruby Myrl James

Ruby Myrl James, a Mobile homemaker, died Monday at a local health care facility.

Mrs. James, 88, was a native of Barrytown, Ala. She attended Cedar Creek Holiness Church of God.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Joyce Carpenter and Kattie Elouise Stewart, both of Mount Vernon, and Bonnie Gale Smith of Creola; a brother, Frank Adams of Gilbertown, Ala.; nine grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be this evening from 5 to 9 at Lockler Memorial Baptist Church. Services are set for 1 p.m. Thursday at the church, with burial at Mount Vernon Cemetery in Mount Vernon.

Freeman Funeral Home of Citronelle is handling arrangements.
