Mary L. Baldwin
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Mary Lockett Baldwin, a retiree and a former Mobile resident, died Thursday in Columbia. She was 56.
Ms. Baldwin was a native of Marengo County, Ala., and a resident of Columbia.
She was a member of Aimwell Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother, Carrie M. Kidd of Mobile; her father, James Lockett of Detroit; three daughters, Sensan Lockett Smiley and Kimberly Baldwin Brooks of Columbia, and Michi Grayson of Mobile; a sister, Neita Kidd of Mobile; a stepsister, Anita Burnette; and a brother, Alphonse Kidd, both of Chicago; two stepbrothers, Charles James Duncan of St. Stephens, Ala., and Robert Kidd Jr. of Chicago; and six grandchildren.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. Viewing also will be held after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Aimwell Baptist Church, 500 Earl St., with visitation from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services. Burial will be in Whispering Pines Cemetery.

Sarah Porter Tait
BRANDON, Miss. - Sarah Porter Tait, a native of Mobile and a resident of Brandon for the past 15 years, died Saturday at a health-care facility in Vicksburg, Miss. She was 82.
Mrs. Tait worked at the International Paper Co. bag mill for 35 years. She was a member of Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a past worthy matron of Eastern Star Chapter No. 420.
She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Pinkerton of Brandon; and three grandchildren.
At Mrs. Tait's request, her body was donated to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for research.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Sarah Aldridge
Sarah Redfield Plumb Aldridge, a former teacher at St. Paul's Episcopal School, died Monday at a local hospital. She was 74.
Mrs. Aldridge, a native of Youngstown, Ohio, was a resident of Shaker Heights, Ohio, before moving to Mobile in 1945.
She was active in numerous civic and charitable organizations. She was a past president of the Historic Mobile Preservation Society, a president of the Navy Officers' Wives Club and a member of the Gray Ladies in Charleston, S.C. She was also a member of the Junior League in Mobile and Charleston, the Parapluie Dance Company, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames.
She was an American Red Cross volunteer and a former member of the "As You Like It" literary club.
She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church
Survivors include her husband, Garet V. Aldridge Sr. of Mobile; a son, U.S. Army chaplain Maj. Garet V. Aldridge Jr. of Katterbach, Germany; a daughter, Sarah Redfield Aldridge Grayson of Mobile; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the Bellingrath Hall of Central Presbyterian Church on Friday from 11 a.m. until the noon services in the church. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery with Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street in charge.
Memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church Foundation Trust or the Historic Mobile Preservation Society.

Perryman Baker Jr.
Perryman Baker Jr., a retiree from Brookley Air Force Base, died Sunday at a local hospital. He was 83.
Baker, a native and resident of Mobile, formerly worked with the U.S. Postal Service and at Hank Aaron Stadium. He was recently employed by Wal-Mart .
Services are set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Louis Street Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lovett's Funeral Chapel.

Margarette Barnes
Margarette James Barnes, a retiree of the University of South Alabama Medical Center who was former manager of the summer lunch program in the Plateau area, died Oct. 5 at a local hospital. She was 74.
Mrs. Barnes, a native of Gosport, Ala., lived in the Plateau-Magazine-Happy Hill area of Mobile. She formerly had been employed with Marshall Durbin.
She was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church, where she worked with the Rose of Sharon Club, senior usher board, Sunday school and the Missionary Department, in addition to serving as a counselor for the youth ushers. She was a former member of Morning Star Baptist Church.
After her retirement, she joined the Plateau-Magazine-Happy Hill Action Council, serving as president from April 1993 until becoming president emeritus this past June.
She was a former member of the Mobile Community Organization and a founder of the Plateau Community Center. She had also been a member of the Friends of Africatown U.S.A.
Survivors include two daughters, Geraldine Barnes and Rosa Barnes of Mobile; four sons, George Lee English, Rufus Barnes and Melvin Barnes of Mobile, and Lawrence Barnes of Atlanta; and a stepson, J.R. Barnes Jr. of Atlanta; two sisters, Helen James Poe and Florida Bell Collins; a brother, Melvin James; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Union Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the noon services. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Arrangements are by Reese Funeral Home.

Wallace Grogan Sr.
Wallace E. Grogan Sr., a Philadelphia, Miss., native and Chickasaw resident, died Monday at a local hospital. He was 63.
Grogan was a retired security guard.
He is survived by a son, Wallace E. Grogan Jr. of Mobile; a daughter, Freda DuBose of Loxley; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service is being planned. Arrangements are by Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street.

Loretta Stevens
Loretta Stevens, a native Mobilian and a graduate of Toulminville High School, died Thursday. She was 40.
Survivors include two sons, Christopher Stevens and Demarcus Stevens; her mother, Cherry B. Stevens; four sisters, Gussie Cater, Willie Mae Stevens, Melissa Hurd and Jackie King; and four brothers, Thomas Williams, Charles Stevens, George Stevens and John W. Stevens.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. today at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 505 Price Ave. in Prichard, followed by services at noon. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hodge's Funeral Chapel.
