Melvin Davis
Melvin Davis, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, died Friday at a local hospital. He was 59.
He was a retired U.S. Air Force technical sergeant and a graduate of Mattie T. Blount High School, class of 1959.
He is survived by three children, Crystal V. Davis of Dayton, Ohio, Melvin A. Davis of Los Angeles and Jeremy M. Davis of Mobile; one sister, Rosie Jones of San Francisco; one brother, Charles Roberts of Mobile; former wife, Gloria Davis of Dayton, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Monday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home.
A procession will leave the funeral home Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. for graveside services at 12:30 p.m. in the Biloxi National Cemetery in Mississippi.

Alfred L. Lavender
Alfred Leroy Lavender, a native and resident of Mobile, died Thursday at a local hospital. He was 64.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Lavender of Mobile; a son, Clarence Lavender; four daughters, Diane Roberson, Deborah Bell, Donna Lavender and April Richardson; five brothers, James Edward Collins, Curtis Wilkerson, Joseph Ayala, Donald Broadus and Tommy Wheeler; a sister, Rhenda Richie; and 12 grandchildren.
Services will be at noon today at Serenity Funeral Home in Mobile, with visitation two hours before. Burial will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens.

Harrison Moore
Harrison Moore, a native and resident of Plateau, died Sunday at the age of 40.
Survivors include two sons, Harrison Moore Jr. and Mario Moore; and a daughter, Ashley Moore, all of Mobile; and a brother, Robert Moore Jr.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. today at Lovett's Funeral Chapel, followed by services at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Rising Sons Cemetery.

John Morgan Jr.
John Morgan Jr., a former merchant seaman, died Wednesday at a local hospital. He was 69.
Morgan, a native and resident of Mobile, was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Sanders Morgan of Mobile; six sons, Johnnie Morgan, Tony Morgan and Gregory Morgan, all of Detroit, Ralph Sanders and Christopher Sanders, both of Mobile, and Marcus Sanders of Valdosta, Ga.; five daughters, Linda Gibbs, Gloria Dowdlan, Brenda Morgan, and Portia Payne, all of Mobile, and Debra Morgan of Detroit; two brothers, Richard Ball and James Morgan, both of Los Angeles; and a sister, Jonnie Lewis of Los Angles.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home in Mobile, with visitation one hour before. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Helen M. Ewing
GRAND BAY - Helen Marie Ewing, a native of Mobile and resident of Grand Bay, died Friday at a local hospital. She was 41.
Mrs. Ewing, a homemaker, was a member of Calvary Assembly of God in Tillman's Corner.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Ewing Sr. of Grand Bay; one son, Jerry Ewing Jr. of Grand Bay; three daughters, Vickey Ewing, Lisa Ewing and Denise Ewing of Grand Bay; her mother, Helen Goodwin of Mobile; two brothers, Ray Goodwin of Theodore and Gary Goodwin of Satsuma; two sisters, Theresa Hall of Jacksonville, Fla., and Sharon Hester of Tillman's Corner; and one grandson.
Visitation will from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Serenity Funeral Home. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Serenity Funeral Home. Burial will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens.

Leroy C. Daffin
PITTSBURGH - Leroy Cleveland Daffin, a native of Jackson, Ala., and resident of Pittsburgh, died Sunday . He was 61.
He is survived by two sons, Steven Daffin of Birmingham and Charles Steele of Jackson; two daughters, Annie Marie Hill of Detroit and Vangie Anise of Mobile; two brothers, Walter Lee Daffin Jr. of Pittsburgh and Edward Lee Daffin of St. Louis; three sisters, Mary Lee Tucker of Pittsburgh, and Margleen Berry and Bettie G. Moore, both of Walker Springs; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Jackson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Arrangements are by Jackson Memorial Funeral Home.

Opal E. Pitts
LUCEDALE, Miss. - Opal Ellen Pitts, 67, a native of Jones County, Miss., and resident of Lucedale, died Tuesday after a brief illness.
Mrs. Pitts, a homemaker, was a member of Union Baptist Church's Ladies Auxiliary. She was co-owner of Pitts Florist in Lucedale.
She is survived by one daughter, Bridgette Ousman of Kingswood, Texas; one son, Michael Pitts of Lucedale; four sisters, Gusta Mae Blackwell of Bay Springs, Miss., Blanche Graham of Moss, Miss., Freda Campbell of Falls Church, Va., and Hazel McCormick of Lucedale; and six grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday at Union Baptist Church. Burial wsa in Union Cemetery. Sigler Funeral Home in Lucedale handled arrangements.
