Willie Elkin Powell
EVERGREEN - Willie Elkin Powell, a resident of Evergreen, died Tuesday at his home. He was 81.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Powell of Evergreen; two daughters, Margaret Powell Cole of Columbus, Ga., and Marion Tenney of Vass, N.C.; one brother, Bill Powell of Mobile; two sisters, Sara Salter of Evergreen and Frances Dees of Bermuda, Ala.; and four grandchildren.
Services were Thursday at Arkadelphia Baptist Church. Burial was in Bellville Baptist Church Cemetery. Cope Funeral Home of Evergreen handled arrangements.

Julia Orme Martin
ATLANTA - Julia Orme Martin, a resident of Atlanta, died Wednesday after a brief illness. She was 72.
Mrs. Martin was a landscape designer who helped restore and preserve Atlanta's Ansley Park. Her memberships included the Ansley Park Garden Club and the Ansley Park Beautification Foundation board.
A longtime member of the board of managers of the A.G. Rhodes Homes, she was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Atlanta and a member of the Atlanta Town Committee of the National Society of the Colonial Dames in the state of Georgia.
Mrs. Martin spent her childhood in Europe and later attended the Washington Seminary School in Atlanta and the National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C. She attended the University of Georgia and graduated from Georgia State University in 1968.
Survivors include her sister, Germaine Bienvenu Kling of Paris, France; two daughters, Maude Martin Huff of Columbus, Ga., and Julia Martin McClelland of Mobile; and four grandchildren.
Burial will be at 10 a.m. today at Oakland Cemetery with H.M. Patterson & Son Historic Spring Hill Chapel in charge of arrangements. A service is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at All Saints Episcopal Church with the family receiving friends afterward in Ellis Hall.
The family requests that memorials be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, 634 W. Peachtree St., Atlanta, GA 30308; or St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 76, Blue Hill, ME 04614.

Lenord Vaughn
CLEVELAND - Lenord Vaughn, a Mobile native, died Dec. 30 in Ohio at the age of 48.
Vaughn was a resident of Cleveland and worked as a mechanic. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he earned a number of medals and commendations.
Survivors include his wife, Ametrious Vaughn of Detroit; his mother, Bernice Vaughn of Vinegar Bend, Ala.; one son, Lenord Vaughn Jr. of Detroit; one daughter, Tracy Vaughn of Detroit; one sister, Goldie M. Vaughn of Vinegar Bend; five brothers, Robert Vaughn, Richard Vaughn and William Vaughn, all of Vinegar Bend, Edward Vaughn of Slidell, La., and Howard McKeller of Cleveland.
The funeral is set for 11 a.m. today at Andrews Funeral Home in Jackson with burial in Little Bethel Church Cemetery in Vinegar Bend.

Hansell Ray Wade
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - Hansell Ray Wade, a former resident of Butler, Ala., died Monday at his home in South Euclid.
Wade, 88, was a native of Leesburg, Ga. He had worked as a pulp mill superintendent with American Can Corp.
Survivors include three sons, Marvin M. Wade of Birmingham, Hansell E. Wade of Limrick, Pa., and David L. Wade of Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Thelma Wade Dorner of Forsythe, Ga.; and 10 grandchildren.
Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. today in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Butler with Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler in charge.

William P. Brooks Jr.
William Petty "W.P." Brooks Jr., a native of Prairie, Ala., and resident of Mobile, died Thursday. He was 83.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Coleman Brooks; two daughters, Kynette B. King and Faye Clarke of Mobile; three sons, Le Carl and Raymond Brooks of Maryland and William Brooks of Mobile; two brothers, Christopher Brooks of Selma and Charles Brooks of Los Angeles; two sisters, Ruth Brooks of Selma and Sara Lee of Virginia; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Monday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home, and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial to follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.

Jennifer Leaird
CREOLA - Jennifer Leaird, a native and resident of Creola, died Thursday at her residence. She was 22.
She is survived by her husband, Carlson David Leaird Sr. of Creola; four children, Carlson David Leaird Jr., Corey Dustin Leaird, Autumn Rose Creel and Hannah Nicole Leaird of Creola; her parents, Michael and Glenda Creel of Axis; and one sister, Yvonne Lanae Walker of Axis.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. today at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. Graveside services and burial will be at 3 p.m. in Creola Cemetery.

Rosa Lee Cook
MILLBROOK, Ala. - Rosa Lee Cook, a former longtime resident of Chickasaw, died Tuesday at her home in Millbrook.
Mrs. Cook was a native of Winston County. She was a former member of First Baptist Church of Chickasaw.
Survivors include her son, Henry Wayne Cook of Millbrook; one sister, Mozell Livingston; one brother, James Dodd; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland, with burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
