Katie Brooks

Katie Brooks, a retiree of Brookley Air Force Base, died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was 86.

Mrs. Brooks was a lifelong Mobile resident. A longtime member of St. Peter Baptist Church, she had served as an usher and member of the choir. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her daughter, Katherine Whitlock of Boston; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be at noon Saturday with services at 1 p.m. at St. Peter Baptist Church, 650 S. Bayou St.. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemtery, with Memorial Funeral Home of Prichard in charge.

Judy V. Turner

Judy V. Turner, who worked as an operator at a rayon plant, died Wednesday at her home. She was 55.

Mrs. Turner, a native of Deer Park, Ala., lived in Saraland. She was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Gibson of Saraland; three daughters, Julie Dahl of Chunchula, Sheila Glover and Christie Denmark, both of Mobile; two sisters, Ruby Jennings of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Ruthie Moore of Shalimar, Fla.; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Services are set for 10 a.m. today at Deer Park United Methodist Church with burial in Deer Park Cemetery. Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Leo Lange

Sister Mary Leo Lange, R.S.M., died Wednesday in a local hospital. A native of Birmingham, she was a longtime Mobile resident.

She entered the Sisters of Mercy on Feb. 9, 1931, and professed her final vows on Aug. 9, 1936.

She had served at numerous schools in the Southeast. They included St. Mary's School in Mobile, St. Aloysius School in Bessemer, Ala., Holy Spirit School in Huntsville, St. Anthony's School in Ensley, Ala., Our Lady of Sorrow School in Homewood, Ala., St. James School in Nashville, Tenn., and St. Patrick's School in Apalachicola, Fla.

Other positions she held included pastoral care at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Ga.; dietician at the Sisters of Mercy General Ate in Bethesda, Md., and the leprosy colony in Trinidad.

Survivors include four nieces, Ann Marie Galdos, Helen Bradley, Sue Wagner and Janet Lange; and one nephew, Fred Lange.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. today at the Convent of Mercy, with burial in Catholic Cemetery. Radney-Belmany Funeral Home on Grelot Road is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Convent of Mercy Retirement Fund, 101 Wimbledon Drive, Mobile, AL 36608.

Willie D. Lasley

Willie D. "Bowleg" Lasley, who had been employed as a construction worker, died Sunday.

Lasley was a lifelong Whistler resident.

Survivors include two sons, Reginald Bassett of Dallas and Horace Rogers of Mobile; three daughters, Annette Bassett Garror, Amanda Bassett and Kizzy Lambert, all of Mobile; his father, Willie D. Lasley Sr. of Detroit; three sisters, Vivian Riels and Mary Wrightinton, both of Mobile, and Shirley Watson of Detroit; two stepsisters, Lillie Moody of Mobile and Deborah Beal of Detroit; four brothers, Johnnie Cockrell of Los Angeles, David L. Cockrell of San Antonio, Alonzo C. Lasley of Atmore and Bruce Lasley of Mobile; and nine grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Saturday with services at 11 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home in Prichard. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

J. Montague Watson

SAVANNAH, Tenn. - Jehu Montague "Montie" Watson died Wednesday in a Savannah hospital after a battle with cancer. He was 93.

Watson had worked as a civil engineer and in public relations with the Tennessee Valley Authority for 35 years.

He was a member of Savannah Church of Christ, an elder and Bible class teacher with the University Church of Christ and an overseer of Savannah Cemetery. He also was an alumnus of the University of Tennessee.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Davis Watson of Savannah; two sons, Jerry Watson of Mobile and Al Watson of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

Services are set for 11 a.m. today at Shackelford Funeral Home in Savannah, with burial in Savannah Cemetery.

Carolyn Ouille Nelson

BILOXI - Carolyn Ouille Nelson, a pharmacist and lifelong resident of Biloxi, died Wednesday. She was 40.

Mrs. Nelson was employed as a pharmacist for Sav-Rex Pharmacies in Jackson County and Fred's Pharmacy in Picayune. She attended Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Biloxi. She was a member of the Mississippi Pharmacist Association and Mississippi Registered Pharmacist Association.

Survivors include her husband, Lance Nelson of Biloxi; two daughters, Sarah Nelson and Lauren Nelson, both of Biloxi; one son, Matthew Nelson of Biloxi; mother, Gloria Marchioni Ouille of Biloxi; one sister, Mrs. Deborah Ouille Cothern of Gulfport, Miss.; two brothers, David Ouille of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Christopher Ouille of Biloxi.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the Pass Road Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi, with the rosary at 6 p.m. A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. Saturday for a 10 a.m. service at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Biloxi. Interment will be in Biloxi City Cemetery.

Benjamin S. Kirkland

BEAUFORT, S.C. - Benjamin S. Kirkland, a former Mobile resident and a U.S. Army veteran, died Tuesday in an area hospital. He was 75.

Kirkland was a native of Vidalia, Ga., and resident of Beaufort. He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II and retired from the service as an aeronautics specialist.

He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He also sponsored two children in Guatemala.

Survivors include his daughter, Michael Keehn of Beaufort; his brother, Charles Kirkland of Atlanta; two sisters, Tommy Nelson of Vidalia and Billie Jane Hillis of Girard, Ga.; and one granddaughter.

Services were Thursday at Anderson Funeral Home in Beaufort.

Graveside services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday in Magnolia Cemetery in Mobile, with Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street in charge of local arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Friends of Caroline Hospice, P.O. Box 1686, Beaufort, S.C.
