Artis Manning Powell
Artis Manning Powell, a Mobile resident, died Thursday in a local hospital. She was 70.
She graduated in 1948 from the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind in Talladega.
Mrs. Powell is survived by one son, Oscar Allen Powell of Mobile; two sisters, Carlene Thacker and Mildred Manning, both of Mobile; two brothers, Justice A. Manning of Daphne and Eulis H. Manning of Saraland; and two grandsons.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

William David Quails
William David Quails, a Mobile resident, died Thursday. He was 59.
He is survived by four sisters, Magratha Shoemaker of Oakburrough, N.C., Cora M. Ray of Mobile, G. Alece Burkett of Fairhope and Mary Humphrys of Birmingham; and two brothers, Tom Quails of Grand Bay and Tony Quails of Woodsfield, Ohio.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street.

Virginia M. Jury
Virginia M. Jury, a South Elgin, Ill., native and a Mobile resident, died Friday.
Mrs. Jury, 85, is survived by one daughter, Patricia E. Cash of Mobile; one son, Ronald E. Jury of Mobile; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Radney Funeral Home. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.

Thomas S. Moye
Thomas S. "Stan" Moye, the owner of Moye and Co. Inc., died Friday at a local hospital. He was 52.
A native of Kingstree, S.C., Maye resided in Mobile for more than 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Mason Moye of Mobile; and children, Stephanie Anne Clower and Olivia Aileen Moye, both of Mobile.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street, with services at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pine Crest West Cemetery. The family requests memorials be made to B.M.A. Patient Aid Account Fund, 917 Plantation Blvd., Fairhope, AL 36532.

James C. Smith Sr.
James Cecil Smith Sr., a Thorsby native and Mobile resident, died Saturday. The retired Brookley Air Force Base expediter and World War II veteran was 77.
He is survived by his wife, Aletha L. Smith of Mobile; three sons, Alan Ray Smith and Brett Lee Smith, both of Mobile, and James Cecil Smith Jr. of Dothan; four daughters, Sandy Andrews, Freida Hartley and Brandi Smith, all of Mobile, and Fran Luther of Saraland; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Radney Funeral Home in Mobile. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Union Missionary Baptist Church in Agricola, Miss.

Elvere P. Bell
Elvere "Vere" Platt Bell, a member of First Baptist North Mobile Church, died Sunday at a local hospital. She was 78.
A native of Whistler, Mrs. Bell resided in Chickasaw.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol Evers of Chickasaw; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 8 at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. A second visitation is planned Tuesday from 9 a.m. until services begin at 10 a.m. at First Baptist North Mobile. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist North Mobile's building fund.

Gloria T. Brannan
Gloria Tacon Brannan, a former Memorial Baptist Church Sunday school teacher and a day-care worker, died Sunday at a local hospital. She was 77.
Mrs. Brannan, who resided in Citronelle, was a native of Mobile.
She is survived by a son, Robert L. Brannan Jr. of Macoutah, Ill.; four daughters, Lavern M. Morris of Mobile; Amy L. Merrit and Elizabeth A. Roberts, both of Citronelle, and Margaret Johnston of Gulf Shores; two brothers, Frederick E. Tacon of Mobile and Tate Tacon of Huntsville; two sisters, Patricia Borne of Grand Bay and Desiree Tacon of Denver, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 9 at Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle. Services are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Baptist Church, with burial at New Home Cemetery.
