Clarence J. DeArmond Jr.
Clarence J. DeArmond Jr., a Navy veteran of World War II, died Monday at a local hospital. He was 74.
DeArmond, a native of Louisiana, had lived in Irvington for the past eight years.
After leaving the Navy, he joined the Air Force, in which he served until retiring in 1971.
Survivors include his wife, Pattie Hadley DeArmond of Irvington; three daughters, Donna DeArmond and Lorna Winters, both of Houston, and Tina Fisher of Gillette, Wyo.; one son, Robert E. Milstead of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Bessie Hills of Collins, Miss.; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Serenity Funeral Home, where services are scheduled for noon Thursday. Burial will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens.

Lavada E. Givens
Lavada E. Givens, who operated restaurants in the Mobile area for many years, died Monday at a local hospital. She was 74.
Mrs. Givens was a Mobile resident and a native of the Crichton area.
She was co-owner the Crichton Cafe from 1948 to 1969. From 1967 to 1985, she operated the Overlook Restaurant, which featured home-cooked meals.
She was a past member of Liberty Park Baptist Church, Northside Bible Church and Overlook Christian Church.
Survivors include three sons, James Lyn Givens and David Mark Givens, both of Mobile, and Stanley Dallas Givens of Alabaster, Ala.; two sisters, Bessie Williams and Lucille Benefield, both of Mobile; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Radney-Belmany Funeral Home on Grelot Road, where services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

James Hazelwood
James "Deac" Hazelwood, a retired longshoreman with ILA Local No. 1410, died Sunday at a local health care facility. He was 95.
Hazelwood, a native of Tylertown, Miss., was a resident of Theodore. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and a former trustee and treasurer of the Sunday school.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Mack Hazelwood of Mobile; three children, Carrie Parker of New Orleans, Joyce Isaac of Pasadena, Calif., and Andre S. Richamond Sr. of Mobile; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. Viewing is also scheduled after 9 a.m. Saturday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 461 Texas Street, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.

Clara Mae Kimble
Clara Mae "Sister" Kimble, a member of Greater Nazaree Missionary Baptist Church No. 1, died Saturday at a local health-care facility. She was 83.
Mrs. Kimble was a lifelong Mobilian.
Survivors include five children, Helen Law, Mary Lou Allen, Frank Kimble Jr. and Rovertus Lee Kimble, all of Mobile, and Mamie Funches of Birmingham; 33 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. Viewing will also be after 9 a.m. Thursday at Greater Nazaree Missionary Baptist Church No. 1, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery.

Jeanne L. McDermott
Jeanne LeDoux McDermott, a former assistant city clerk for the city of Mobile and former secretary of the Sister Cities Federation Board, died Monday at a local hospital at the age of 92.
Mrs. McDermott, a native of New Orleans, lived in Mobile since 1930.
She was the widow of Mobile County Circuit Judge William V. McDermott and the mother of Mobile County Circuit Judges William H. McDermott and Edward B. McDermott.
Her grandfather, Edward H. LeDoux, had served as chief justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court from 1880 to 1892.
Mrs. McDermott had worked as a clerk for the city from 1963 to 1972. Fluent in French, she was called upon to translate documents exchanged by Mobile officials and officials in Pau, France, Mobile's sister city. She was a member of the Societe Mobile-Pau.
As a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church, she was a member of the Altar Society, Leisure Club and the Ladies of Charity. Other memberships included the auxiliary units of Providence hospital and Little Sisters of the Poor. She was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
In addition to her sons, Mrs. McDermott is also survived by another son, Charles LeDoux McDermott of Edgewood, Md.; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street, where the rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. by the Ladies of Charity and at by the parish at 7:30 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Friday with burial in Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Visitation Monastery; or Little Sisters of the Poor.

Willie I. Thompson Jr.
Willie Izeal Thompson Jr., a 14-year member of Covenant Church of Mobile, died Sunday at the age of 52.
Thompson was a lifelong Mobilian. He worked as a carpenter at the University of South Alabama.
At church, he served as an usher and was also involved with the men's prayer meeting on Saturday mornings.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma L. Thompson of Mobile; one son, Cornell Bradley of Mobile; two daughters, Ann Bradley and Demetria Bradley, both of Mobile; three brothers, Willie Gene Thompson and John Thompson, both of Mobile, and Jimmy Thompson of Augusta, Ga.; three sisters, Ida Marie Burns and Debbie Dickerson, both of Mobile, and Minnie Bell Shavers of Century, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. Viewing will also be after 11 a.m. Saturday at Covenant Church of Mobile, 7150 Hitt Road, where visitation will be from noon until the 1 p.m. services. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.

David E. Baldwin
David Eston Baldwin, a retiree of the Mobile County Sheriff's Department, died Tuesday at his home. He was 76.
The Sulligent, Ala., native, was a resident of Mobile and a charter member of West Mobile Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Isabella Baldwin of Mobile; one daughter, Marsha Burt of Mexia, Ala.; two sons, David Baldwin of Semmes and Don Baldwin of Calera, Ala.; his stepmother, Ruth Baldwin of West Point, Miss.; six sisters, Mary Selkin and Trudie Harper, both of Anaheim, Calif., Ester Harper of Hattiesburg, Miss., Betty Craft of West Point, Martha Levangie of Virginia Beach, Va., and Geraldine Payne of Mooresville, Ind.; three brothers, Daniel Baldwin of Nacogdoches, Texas, Eugene Baldwin of West Point and Glen Baldwin of Seymour, Texas; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be at West Mobile Baptist Church today from 11 a.m. until the 2 p.m. services. Burial will be at Mobile Memorial Gardens, with Radney-Belmany Funeral Home on Grelot Road in charge of arrangements.
