Bernice Jackson Whitright
Bernice Jackson Whitright, a native and resident of Mobile, died Sunday at a local health care facility. She was 80.
She is survived by her mother, Janie Jackson of Mobile, and one sister, Essamena Roberson of Mobile.
Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Oaklawn Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Christian Benevolent Funeral Home.

Freddie York
Freddie York, a native of Salitpa and resident of Theodore, died Sunday at a local hospital. He was 84.
Known as "Cecil" to family and friends, York was a retired truck driver for a building supply firm.
He is survived by his wife, Belle M. York of Theodore; one son, Cecil Ray York of Theodore; one daughter, Bobbie C. Villarreal of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; four brothers, Thurman and Waymond York of Salipta, Treva York of Robertsdale and Jessie York of Monroeville; two sisters, Eunice Roberts of Jackson and Wintrey Faile of Fulton; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 tonight at Serenity Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens.

Eric Daniel Scott
CARTERSVILLE, Ga. - Eric Daniel Scott, 55, a native of Pensacola, who lived in Cartersville, died Saturday. Scott was a shipping clerk for Arrow Industries.
He is survived by his wife, Patty D. Scott; a daughter, Deana Vernice Gayton; three sons, Raymond Scott, Rocky Dewayne and Charles Allen; his father, Raymond Scott; three sisters, Voncille White, Eugena Meeker and Faye Harms; and 12 grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Greenwood Bible Deliverance Church. Burial will be in the Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Summerdale. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mack Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements were made by Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale.

Wilhelmena Edwin
Wilhelmena Edwin, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, died Sunday at a local hospital.
She is survived by nine children, Jeanette Douglas of Paterson, N.J., and Clyde Johnson, John Edwin, Gwendolyn J. Brown, Mary Norwood, Geraldine Edwin, Ingrid Paul, Terry Edwin and Gail Edwin of Mobile; 24 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul AME Church, 1255 Montrose St. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at the church. Burial will be in Casher Cemetery.

Ella G. McBride
Ella Gortman McBride, a native of Jackson and a resident of Mobile, died Saturday at a local hospital.
She was a member of Metropolitan AME Church.
Mrs. McBride is survived by her husband, Johnnie "Buck" McBride of Mobile; stepsons Johnnie Lee McBride and Wiley Danzy, both of Mobile, and Leon McBride of Cincinnati; a stepdaughter, Thelma Martin of Alton, Ill.; one sister, Hattie Johnson of Birmingham; and a number of grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.

Lillie McCants
Lillie Frances Williams McCants, a lifelong resident of Mobile, died Sunday.
Mrs. McCants was an active member of Sweet Pilgrim Baptist Church, the Progressive Club and choir.
She is survived by four children, John Henry McCants, Frances Cunningham, George McCants and James McCants of Mobile; 33 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral Friday at Sweet Pilgrim Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Arrangements are with Christian Benevolent Funeral Home.

Thomas A. Merrida
Thomas A. Merrida, a native of Cullomberg and resident of Prichard, died Friday at his residence. He was 89.
He was a member of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as the church treasurer, adult men Sunday school teacher, trustee and laymen worker. He was a member of Hirman Lodge No. 3 F&AM;, and was a patron of OES No. 125.
Merrida, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, was retired from Civil Service, and had worked at Brookley Air Force Base.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Christian Benevolent Funeral Home, and after 9 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral at the church. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
