Bette Jane Knight

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Memorial service for Bette Jane Knight, 76, of the Bridgewater Retirement Community in Bridgewater, Va., and formerly of Hartselle, will be tonight at 7 at The Green mount Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Chip Leatherman officiating and Kyger and Trobaugh Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

Mrs. Knight died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. She was born Dec. 5, 1923, in Beloit, Wis., to William Paul and Bernice Buss Stone. She was the widow of U.S. Army Sgt. Major Joseph S. Knight. She traveled with her husband in the military. She was a Methodist and a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph S. Knight Jr. of Stephens City, Va., and Thomas Alan Knight of Harrisonburg; and one grandson.

Memorials may be made to Hartselle United Methodist Church, 210 E. Hickory St., Hartselle, AL 35640.

Roosevelt Lloyd

Funeral for Roosevelt Lloyd, 64, of Moulton will be Thursday at noon at Freeman Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. H.N. Snodgrass officiating.

Burial will be in Moulton City Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Lloyd died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Emerald Hodgson Hospital in Sewanee, Tenn. He was born June 30, 1935, in Lawrence County, to Sam Lloyd and Hattie Gibson Lloyd.

He is survived by his mother of Moulton; and one sister, Hattie Pearl McDaniel of Moulton.

Pallbearers will be Ken Stewart, Sterling Warren Jr., Victor McDaniel, Norman Sharpley, Harold Warren and Otis Barnes.

Eugenia B. Sims

ATHENS -- Funeral for Eugenia B. Sims, 88, of Athens will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sims died today, Feb. 2, 2000, at Limestone Health Facility. Other arrangements will be announced.

Frances Tapscott
79, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- Funeral arrangements for Frances Tapscott, 79, of Decatur will be announced by Peck Funeral.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at Peck Funeral Home.

Mrs. Tapscott died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham. She was born Nov. 22, 1920 in Birmingham and was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Herbert E. Tapscott of Hartselle and Frank L. Tapscott of Decatur; one brother, Tom Leach of Hoover; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Dee I. Terry
82, World War II veteran

MOULTON -- Funeral for Dee I. Terry, 82, of Town Creek was to be today at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Albert Hodge and the Rev. Jim Kirby officiating.

Burial was to be in Old Liberty Cemetery.

Mr. Terry died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 17, 1917, in Lawrence County to Ellis and Hester Ann Terry. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a retired construction worker with C.W. Paving Co. and a member of Town Creek First Assembly of God Church.

He is survived by his wife, Beulah Mae Terry; one son, Ulan Dee Terry of Courtland; one daughter, Beverly Terry of Town Creek; four sisters, Nora Terry of Moulton and Etta Montgomery, Janie Reed and Jeffie Letson, all of Town Creek; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were to be Gary Vess, Lamar Vess, Thomas Long, Charles Long, Jimmy Terry and Dale Parker.

Steven Wayne 'The Kid' Vinzant
25, service technician

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Steven Wayne "The Kid" Vinzant, 25, of Hartselle will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Brown officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 4:30 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Vinzant died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in Decatur. He was born April 8, 1974, in Morgan County to Steve Vinzant and Doris Brenda Brown Vinzant. He was a Baptist and service technician at Moat Motors.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Gail Vinzant of Hartselle; three daughters, Brittney Marie Vinzant, Kimberly Nicole Vinzant and Chelsay Allison Brooke Vinzant, all of Hartselle; his father of Hartselle; his mother of Hanceville; three brothers, Jimmy Looney of Hanceville, Wiley Looney of Fairview and Lee Looney of Gadsden.

Pallbearers will be Tony Jones, Scottie Jones, Zach Moore, Wiley Looney, Anthony "Hambone" Hamm and Tommy Lovell.

Marjorie Dorothy Hall
75, retired secretary

Funeral for Marjorie Dorothy Hall, 75, of Trinity will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Brooks Barkley and the Rev. Steve Caudle officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hall died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at her home. She was born Feb. 5, 1924, in Alabama to Monroe and Ruby Adkins Moody. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church and was retired from State Farm Insurance as a secretary. She was the widow of Jack Hall.

She is survived by one son, Lamar Smith of Trinity; one daughter, CeCelia Armstrong of Montgomery; one stepson, Michael S. Hall of Corona, Calif.; one sister, Marie Hall of Double Springs; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Leslie Spiller, Ben Drake, Jeff Childers, Don Self, Bill Pettey and Clifton Jones.

Francis Prescott Herring
32, ConAgra inspector

ATHENS -- Funeral for Francis Prescott Herring, 32, of Elkmont will be Friday at noon at Westside Baptist Church in Decatur with the Rev. George A. Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Mobile with Peoples Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 the funeral home.

Mr. Herring died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in Limestone County. He was born Feb. 8, 1967, in Mobile. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church and was a quality assurance inspector for ConAgra. He attended Lurleen B. Wallace Junior College in Mobile and played basketball for Athens State College for two years.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Grisby Herring; one son, Preston Scott Herring of Elkmont; his mother, Shirley Herring of Mobile; one brother, Chuck Herring of Mobile; and one sister, Christine Rencher of Fairhope.

Carrie B. Jones
92, homemaker

TUSCUMBIA -- Funeral for Carrie B. Jones, 92, of North Courtland will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Courtland with Thompson and Son Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Jones died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in Lawrence County. She was born July 15, 1907, in Lawrence County to Mack and Leana Woods. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was the mother of the late Charles Edward Smith and Ollie Davenport.

She is survived by three sons, H.J. Jones of Moulton, the Rev. J.B. Jones of North Courtland and Connie Woods of Hillsboro; two daughters, Earnestine Jones and Frankie B. Woods, both of North Courtland; one sister, Frankie Clapton of North Courtland; 35 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 43 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will be pallbearers and granddaughters will be flower bearers.

The Rev. Elton Finis Jones
88, retired minister

CHATTANOOGA -- Funeral for Rev. Elton Finis Jones, 88, of Chattanooga, formerly of Falkville, will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Chattanooga with the Rev. Dale Gilbert, Dr. Ralph Mohney, the Rev. Charles Lippse, Dr. Charles Turkington, the Rev. Harry Snyder, the Rev. Brent Hall and the Rev. Chris Carter officiating.

Burial will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Sullins Cemetery in Athens, Tenn., with Heritage Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Jones died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at his home. He was born Sept. 5, 1911, in Falkville to Andrew J. and Kate Woodruff Jones. A graduate of Falkville High School, he held degrees from Fletcher College and Asbury Theological Seminary. He pastored churches in Tennessee and was a guest speaker 14 times at the Hartselle Camp Meeting. He led 25 trips to the Holy Land and exchanged 55 Rotary flags on a world tour in 1956. He was a retired minister in the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth King Jones; one son, Dr. Stanley Jones of North Carolina; and three daughters, Eleanor Jones-Payton of Chattanooga, Judy Sullins and Karen Siklosi, both of Athens, Tenn.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Stanley Jones, Dr. Trey Sullins, Dr. Stuart Sullins, Dave Siklosi, Don Anderson and Steve Brothers.

Memorials may be made to a local church, Tennessee Wesleyan College, the Hartselle Camp Meeting Association or Hospice of Chattanooga.

Geraldine D. Lampkin
58, Copeland retiree

Funeral for Geraldine D. Lampkin, 58, of Hartselle will be Friday at noon at Hartselle First Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Young officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lampkin died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Dec. 2, 1941, in Morgan County. She attended Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, worked at Copeland Corp. for 17 years and was a member of Hartselle First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, William Lampkin; five sons, James Morris of Hartselle, Mike Morris of Trinity, William Lampkin of Childersburg, and Tyrone Campbell and Rodney Lampkin, both of Decatur; three daughters, Jacqueline Morris and Tomika Lampkin, both of Hartselle, and Carolyn Morris of Smyrna, Ga.; two brothers Theodore Bevels of Lexington, Ky., and Lorenzo Burgess of Decatur; and 14 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be William Sharpley, Keith Orr, Kenny Orr, Trey Ward, Joe Davis and Derrick Williams.

James E. 'Bud' Lewis
67, Korean War veteran

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for James E. "Bud" Lewis, 67, of Priceville will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Mattox officiating.

Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Lewis died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born August 30, 1932, in Morgan County to George Franklin and Vera Mae Armstrong Lewis. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was the brother of the late Mason E. Lewis and Nannie Faye Roper.

He is survived by his wife, Donell Lewis; two sons, James A. "Tony" Lewis of Somerville and Mark Christopher Lewis of Decatur; three daughters, Brenda Johnson and Donna Harper, both of Decatur, and Teresa Craig of Athens; six brothers, George Lewis, T.W. Lewis, Samuel E. Lewis and Charles K. Lewis, all of Decatur, Billy R. Lewis of Hartselle and Claude Lewis of Chickamauga, Ga.; two sisters, Mildred Guidici of Decatur and Joyce Ann Burns of Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Pallbearers will be Larry Lewis, Mike Lewis, Jimmy Phillips, Matthew Phillips, Keith Day and Scott Bryant.
