ATHENS -- Funeral for Retha Raby Marks, 81, of Athens will be today at 10 a.m. at Copeland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William Robert Sharman and the Rev. William J. Kaylor officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.
Burial will be at Madison Crossroads Cemetery.
Mrs. Marks died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at Limestone Convalescent Center. She was born Dec. 30, 1917, in Limestone County, where she became a lifelong resident.
She retired from the Limestone County Probate Judge's office. She was a member of Copeland Presbyterian Church, where she was the pianist and Sunday School teacher for 50 years.
She was the widow of Grady Sherman Raby and Winston Marks.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Copeland and Anita Raby, both of Athens; two stepsons, Claude Marks and Ronnie Marks, both of Athens; two sisters, Bertha Mason and Roberta Smith, both of Athens; one grandson; four step-grand-children; and one step-great-grandchild.
Nephews will be pallbearers.

ATHENS -- Funeral for Jewell Mae Edwards Mitchell, 81, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bob Sharman officiating.
Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Spry Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mitchell died at home Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, with her family present.
She was born Aug. 31, 1917, in Ellis County, Texas, and was a homemaker. She was the sister of the late Mary Henry, James Edwards, Edgar Edwards, Ray Edwards and Earnest Warren Edwards.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John R. Mitchell; five daughters, Judy Mitchell Todd of Lawrence, Kan., Susan Bryan of Huntsville, Sally Elizabeth Mitchell of Baltimore, Katherine Melanie Murray of Atlanta and Rebecca Jean Cartier of Athens; one son, John R. Mitchell Jr. of Suffolk, Va.; one brother, Lester Edwards of Decatur; two sisters, Bertha Sue King of Huntsville and Nancy Bell of Swartz Creek, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Athens, Hospice of Limestone County or the American Cancer Society.

Funeral for William Thomas "Slim" King, 75, of Houston, Texas, will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Sims officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7:30 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mr. King died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at Veterans Hospital in Houston. He was born June 25, 1924, in Falkville. He was longtime resident of Trinity before moving to Texas in 1993. He owned and operated an upholstery shop and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Patrick of Huffman, Texas, and Linda Sherette of Katy, Texas; five brothers, Max King and Dewitt King, both of Town Creek, Leonard King and Conrad King, both of Hartselle, and Wayne King of Hillsboro; and two grandsons.
Nephews will be pallbearers.
Crewmembers of the U.S.S. Chenango will be honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Painter died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born May 16, 1953, in New York. He was the owner of Morningside Shell and a member of the River City Motorcycle Club. He attended Austinville Church of God.
He is survived by his parents, Joseph and Shirley Painter of St. James, N.Y.; one brother, Stephen Painter of St. James; and three sisters, Terry Mayfield of Decatur, Judy Painter of Manhattan, N.Y., and Lisa Jochnowitz of Guilderland, N.Y.
Pallbearers will be Ed Brown, Rick Henry, Layton Widner, Don Boger, Gordon Byrd and Charlie Wilburn.

ATHENS -- Funeral for the Rev. Dolphus Clyde Presley, 87, of Rogersville will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mr. Presley died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at Mitchell Hollingsworth Annex in Florence. He was born July 20, 1912, in Cullman. He was a retired minister, a professional freelance writer and a former house parent at the Alabama Baptist Children's Home in Decatur. He was a Baptist, and a member of Woodmen of the World and the National Writers Club.
He is survived by his wife, Roxie Presley; two sons, James Presley of Ripley, W.Va., and Owen Presley of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one daughter, Roxie Kay Parker of Florence; one brother, Chalmers Presley of Gulfport, Miss.; one sister, Eloise Gilleland of Birmingham; five grandchildren; and seven great-grand- children.

Miss Robinson died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at Parkway Medical Center Hospital. She was born Feb. 27, 1954, in Lawrence County.
She is survived by her mother, Florine Robinson; five brothers, Henry Robinson and Terry Robinson, both of Courtland, J.C. Robinson of Decatur, Otis Robinson of Priceville and Albert Robinson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and two sisters, Gladys R. Mayes and Dorothy R. Green , both of Courtland.

ATHENS -- Graveside service for Horace James Rogers, 87, of Athens will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Athens City Cemetery with McConnell Funeral Home directing.
