ATHENS -- Funeral for Eular Lillie Hill, 85, of Athens will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Hatchett Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hill died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Dec. 14, 1913, in Limestone County. She was a Baptist and a homemaker. She was the widow of Jack Hill and the mother of the late Wendell Hill and Willie Hill.
She is survived by five sons, Leon Hill of Ardmore, Jackie Hill and Dwight Hill, both of Athens, Charles "Chuck" Hill of Decatur and Danny Hill of Columbia, Tenn.; six daughters, Katherine Carwile, Lillie Posey and Sadie Croley, all of Athens, DeLanie Wilson of Addison, Dorothy Newton of Anderson and Kathy Perry of Franklin, Tenn.; two sisters, Pearl Sapp and Vernie Jones, both of Decatur; 32 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Hill, Rodney Newton, Greg McAlister, Rickie Hill, Anthony Posey and John Sharp.
Grandsons will be honorary pallbearers.
James Monroe Mears
90, retired farmer
Funeral for James Monroe Mears, 90, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. James Toone officiating.
Burial will be in Grange Hall Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mr. Mears died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, at Summerford Nursing Home in Falkville. He was born Aug. 9, 1909, in Tennessee to Joel and Doshia Waldrep Mears. He was a retired farmer and drove a bus for Christ's Mission Inc. for Sunday school and other ministries. He was the widower of Cora Mears.
He is survived by one son, J.C. Mears of Decatur; one sister, Atron Jackson of Decatur; six grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Mears, Marty Mears, Benjamin Mears, Jonathan Mears, Joe Mears and Ronald Puckett.
Walker Wallace Smith

Jim Syrdal

Funeral for Jim Syrdal, 70, of Decatur will be Saturday at Dovre Lutheran Church in Winger, Minn., with the Rev. Wesley Johanson officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home handling local arrangements.
Burial will be in Dovre Lutheran Church Cemetery in Winger.
Mr. Syrdal died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Sept. 4, 1928, in Minnesota to Oluf Syrdal and Stella Mellum-Syrdal. He was a radio and television broadcaster in Minnesota for nearly 40 years and attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Decatur. He was an avid golfer and a bowler with the Young at Heart Bowlers league.
He is survived by his wife, Fran Syrdal; one son, Steve Syrdal of Fargo, N.D.; one daughter, Julie Bolen of Decatur; one sister, Jenella Wikstrom of Tucson, Ariz.; three granddaughters; one step-granddaughter, and three great-step-granddaughters.
Memorials may be made to the Special Olympics.
Lucy Elizabeth Middlebrooks Hall

Burial was to be in Dement Cemetery.
Mrs. Hall died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She was born March 7, 1910, in Limestone County. She was a homemaker and a member of Shanghi Baptist Church and Owens Friendship Club.
She is survived by two sons, James Arthur Middlebrooks Sr. of Trinity and Gene Edward Middlebrooks Sr. of Anderson; one daughter, Elizabeth Leotta Nixon of Athens; one brother, Charley Oneal Craig of Columbia, Tenn.; one sister, Corean Calvert Holmes of Birmingham; two half brothers, Jimmy Garris and Red Garris, both of Athens; two half sisters, Louise Harbin of Huntsville and Lorene Campbell of Nashville; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were to be Wayne Middlebrooks, Ted Middlebrooks, Timmy Middlebrooks, Jerry Beadle, Jerry Craig and Eddie Middlebrooks.

Mr. Haussler died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at his home. He was born Feb. 6, 1975, in Huntsville to Jonathan B. Haussler and Sara Fields Haussler. He attended Brewer High School and Southern Union State Community College.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Jonathan and Delores Haussler of Decatur; and two sisters, Christy Haussler of Greenville, S.C., and Tammy Cantrell of Swannanoa, N.C.
Lee Cortez Shackleford

Mr. Shackleford died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Nov. 19, 1971, in Lawrence County. He was a supervisor at Rite-Way Cleaning Service in Decatur, a member of David Temple Primitive Baptist Church and a graduate of East Lawrence High School.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Shackleford; two daughters, Rochelle Shackleford and Alissa Ross, both of Moulton; his parents, Earnest Lee Shackleford and Plezella Foster Shackleford of Hillsboro; two brothers, Lawrence Shackleford of Moulton and Corey Shackleford of Hillsboro; and two sisters, Sophia Green and Felicia Shackleford, both of Hillsboro.
Pallbearers will be Oneal Shackleford, Corey Davis, Thomas Davis, Joe King, Melvin Jackson and Michael Jones.
Walker Wallace 'Honey' Smith

Mr. Smith died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, at Parkway Medical Center Hospital. He was born April 19, 1907, in Morgan County. He was a lifelong member of Sixteenth Avenue Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He retired in 1972 from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Decatur, where he worked 39 years and missed only four days of work.
He is survived by one son, Jerry Smith of Maitland, Fla.; one daughter, Dorothy Jo Lee of Decatur; one brother, Ty Smith of Decatur; one sister, Martha Thelma Reeves of Decatur; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Deacons of Sixteenth Avenue Baptist Church will be pallbearers.

Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.
Mr. Steele died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center. He was born Oct. 20, 1919, in Lawrence County to Sam and Lena Hayes Steele. He was a retired from Fruehauf, where he was a production worker.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Steele; two sons, James Steele and Dorman Steele, both of Danville; one daughter, Wanda Holland of Danville; one brother, Calvin Steele of Danville; two sisters, Lenell Guthrie of Double Springs and Mary Butler of Nashville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Steele, Danny Holland, Jason Holland, Cameron Belchic, Lance Archer, Wesley Archer, Alvin Steele and Neal Archer.

Hubert 'Hugh' LeeRoy Bearden

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Hubert "Hugh" LeeRoy Bearden, 81, of Priceville will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Smothers officiating.
Burial will be in Shoal Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mr. Bearden died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Dec. 28, 1917, in Mississippi, to John Dewitt and Maggie Ann Bishop Bearden. He was district manager of Brett-Pargas Co., co-owner of Decatur Realty and owner of Priceville Realty. He was one of the original people to work on getting Priceville incorporated. He served on the Planning Council for five years and serving as its chairman. He was one of Priceville's original volunteer firefighters and was an active Democrat.
Mr. Bearden was a member of the Morgan County Board of Realtors, and the state board and national board of Realtors. He served six years on the State and Local Taxation and Legislative Board of Realtors. He has been employed at Byford's Gun and Pawn Shop in Hartselle, Priceville Foodland and was working at Perkins Restaurant in Priceville.
He also was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Fairfield Masonic Lodge in Baton Rouge, La., and the Jerusalem Shrine Temple in Louisiana. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 15 and a charter member of Priceville Lions Club. He has been a Morgan County resident since 1959.
He is survived by his wife, Jeane Wren Bearden; two daughters, Sandra B. Drinkard of Foley and Janice B. Knowles of Gladesville, Tenn.; two stepsons, Al Hughes of Decatur and Forrest E. Hughes of Bellevue, Neb.; one brother, Earl D. Bearden of Summit, Miss.; one sister, Alma B. Yarborough of Chickasaw; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be the original Priceville volunteer firefighters.
