Graveside service for infant Niki Michelle West of Decatur was Monday at Enon Cemetery with the Rev. Chuck Smith officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.
She died Friday, June 30, 2000, the day of her birth, at Decatur General Hospital. She was the granddaughter of the late Van Douglas Colwell.
She is survived by her father, Nathanael West of Decatur; her mother, Mindi Colwell of Decatur; her grandparents, Larry and Terrie Alexander of Moulton, and Pam Colwell and Charles Cooper, both of Decatur; and her great-grandparents, Nancy Rye of Mount Pleasant, Texas, Charles Smith of Danville and Corene Slaten Smith of Falkville.
Pallbearers were Michael Colwell, Matthew Colwell, Michael Reese and John Paul Puckett.
Elaine Garrett

Funeral for Elaine Garrett, 45, of Decatur will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Stephens Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Lewis officiating and Sharpley Funeral Home directing.
Burial will be in Sterrs Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour before the service. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at the funeral home.
Ms. Garrett died Monday, July 3, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Feb. 7, 1955, in Decatur to Eural Garrett and Alberta Taylor Garrett. She attended school in Decatur and graduated from high school in Detroit. She was a member of St. James Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was a seamstress at Magic City Cleaners.
She is survived by one son, Marvin Dejuan Garrett; her mother, Alberta Garrett; father Eural Garrett; grandmother, Willie Mae Taylor; six sisters, Patricia Williams, Sherrie Brown, Teresa Garth, Joshua Garrett, Shelia Garrett and Annie Woods; one brother, Rodney Garrett; and one grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Laron Gildon, Larry Gildon, Fred Fennell, Bobby Gildon, Roderick Ayers and Thomas Wynn.
Lance Hunter Harris

ATHENS -- Graveside services for Lance Hunter Harris, 24, of Athens will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Roselawn Cemetery with Dr. Aaron Johnson officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McConnell Funeral Home.
Mr. Harris died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at his home. He was born Oct. 30, 1975, in Birmingham. He was a former member of the Boy Scouts of America. He worked as an electronic technician at Wildwoods Electronics in Madison. He attended Calhoun College, where he studied electronic engineering.
He is survived by his parents, Carter F. Harris and Linda D. Metcalf, both of Athens; one sister, Londa Isbell of Leeds; two brothers, Michael Sharritt of Athens and Robert Harris of Salt Lake City; and his grandmother, Edna Holland Dean of Athens.
Pallbearers will be Jason Reyer, Matt Davis, Jason Hastings, Jeremy Ezell, Patrick Dildine and Ryan Lemons.

Mrs. Pool died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at Sunbridge Health Care and Rehabilitation in Tuscumbia. She was born July 12, 1915, in Lawrence County to William H. Jeffreys and Hattie Mae Pate Jeffreys. Mrs. Pool was a homemaker and a retired machine operator. She was a member of Wolfe Springs Church of Christ and the wife of the late James Sterling Pool. Mrs. Pool was the mother of the late Harold Laverol Pool.
She is survived by two daughters, Lawanda Rucker and Joyce Randolph, both of Hatton; six brothers, William Jeffreys of Oregon, Alvie Jeffreys of Oklahoma City, Okla., J.D. Jeffreys of Moore, Okla., Elton Jeffreys of Clarksville, Tenn., George Jeffreys of Destin, Fla., and Woodie Jeffreys of Hatton; two sisters, Grace Skinner of Texas and Syvilene Kiser of Hatton; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Sims died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Nov. 25, 1923, in Lawrence County, to Edgar Alexander and Betty Robbins Alexander. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Brian Sims of Charleston, S.C., and Richard Sims of Clarksville, Tenn.; three daughters, Sherry Sims of Oak Hill, Va., Bettye Hixson of Signal Mountain, Tenn., and Kimberly Sims of Trinity; one sister, Grace Terry of Moulton; and four grandsons.
Pallbearers will be Russ Beard, Paul Terry, Mike Jackson, Steve Jackson, Ed Alexander and Howard Bahr.

The youth died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Center in Huntsville.
He was born May 3, 1983, in Morgan County to Eddie Woods and Sandra Fay Sykes Woods. He was a junior at East Limestone High School and a cashier at Krystal hamburgers. He was a member of King's Memorial United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his parents of Athens; two brothers, Terence Sykes and RaShaad Woods, both of Athens; one sister, Keara Woods of Athens; his grandparents, Mary Beddingfield of Athens, Leo and Fanny Sykes of Decatur and Frank White of Rockford, Ill.
Cousins will be pallbearers.
John Horace Townsend

Mr. Townsend died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born March 2, 1921, in Morgan County to Grady Townsend and Eron Anders Townsend. He was a Navy aircraft mechanic during World War II and later at Hayes Aircraft in Birmingham. He also was a former mechanic for the Morgan County Commission. He was a member of American Legion Post 15 in Decatur and a former member of American Legion Post 52 in Hartselle. He was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth Townsend; two sons, Larry Townsend of Lake, Miss., and Don R. Townsend of Somerville; one sister, Louise Miller of Falkville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Laramie Townsend, Scott Townsend, Jamie Roy, Cooper King, Chris Vinzant, Waymon Holliday, Gary Anders and Sim Howell Jr.

Mrs. Beck died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Decatur. She was born Sept. 11, 1919. She was a homemaker. She was the widow of Garland Beck and the mother of the late William Ronald Beck.
She is survived by one daughter, Wanda Ramsey of Kingsport, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Nephews will be pallbearers.
James Arthur Burton

Mr. Burton died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at Summerford Nursing Home in Falkville. He was born May 26, 1927, in Morgan County to Samuel Burton and Estella Jackson Burton. He graduated from Morgan County Training School and was a truck driver for Hartselle Wholesale Co. A World War II veteran, he served in the Pacific Theater and earned numerous medals and awards.
He is survived by his wife, Carlean Orr Burton; two daughters, June Lynette Young of Courtland and Tina Eloise Burgess of Iron River, Mich.; two brothers, Eddie Burton of Cleveland, Ohio and Sam Burton of Harvest, Ill.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Oneal Orr, Freddie Williams, Shelby Williams, Calvin Sharpley, Posey Gholston and Charles Ratliff.

Mrs. Haas died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at Glenwood Rehabilitation and Convalescent Center in Florence. She was born Oct. 13, 1935, in Athens. She was the owner and operator of a real estate company and a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Clyde Joseph Haas; six daughters, Mary Ann Bond of Wiggins, Miss., Jennifer Lovelady of Athens, Betsy Fountain of Killen, Sally Vark of Mesa, Ariz., Amy Strickland of Dawsonville, Ga., and Samantha Horowitz of Pompano Beach, Fla.; one brother, Roy E. Shaw of Athens; and 12 grandchildren.

Dr. Holt died Friday, July 7, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born June 29, 1927, in Limestone County to Johnny R. Holt and Bertha S. Holt Phillips. He was a physician in Athens from 1953 to 1998. He was a Mason and a member of North Side Church of Christ. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and was a graduate of Florence State Teachers College.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Holt; four daughters, Carol Welch of Meridian, Miss., Gail Downs and Janice Bartleson, both of Athens, and Nancy Leopard of Birmingham; one stepson, Mike Graul of Athens; two stepdaughters, Ann Jackson and Susan Moss, both of Athens; one sister, Mary Evelyn Moomaw of Florence; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Seth Downs, Zack Downs, Mike Graul, Johnnie Jackson, Bayless Thornton and Ronnie Holt.

Mrs. Lawler died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at her home. She was born Aug. 6, 1922, in Limestone County to Van Abernathy and Lerlean Browning Abernathy. She was a member of North Side Church of Christ and a retired district manager for World Book Encyclopedia.
She is survived by two sons, Phillip Lawler and Jerry Lawler, both of Athens; four brothers, Van Abernathy, Billy Abernathy and Willard Abernathy, all of Athens, and Kenneth Abernathy of Columbia, S.C.; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Timmy Abernathy, Jimmy Wade Abernathy, Jason Abernathy, Greg Abernathy, Keith Barksdale and Josh Hall.
