Jimmy Floyd Sims

ATHENS - Memorial service for Jimmy Floyd Sims, 62, of Athens will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Capshaw Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Ebersold officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Sims' home and requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to a church of choice.

Mr. Sims died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, at Athens-Limestone Hospital. He was born Oct. 31, 1936, in Clay County and was a resident of Athens for the past 14 years. He was a Southern Baptist minister for 35 years and retired after 14 years as a supervisor with Sweet Sue Kitchens. He was a member of Capshaw Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Sims; one son, Jimmy Sims Jr., of Madison; two daughters, Cathy Bacon of Killen and Jan Evans of Trussville; his mother, Norris Sims of Anniston; three sisters, Laglen Bridges of Norfolk, Va., Sandra Boyd of Oxford and Cheryl Fritz of Newport News, Va.; and seven grandchildren.

Jeffrey Eugene Whitlock
42, cook

Funeral for Jeffrey Eugene Whitlock, 42, of Danville will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with David Phillips officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Whitlock died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, at University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham. He was born May 31, 1957, in Madison County. He was disabled and worked as a cook.

He is survived by his brother, Joey B. Whitlock of Trinity.

Pallbearers will be Randy Stricklin, Buddy Stricklin, Howell Wayne Carr, Billy Mac Hill, Tommy Mackey and Kim Mackey.

Nell PeeblesHitt Chamberlain
75, homemaker

TRINITY -- Funeral for Nell Peebles Hitt Chamberlain, 75, of Hillsboro will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Bill Pullen officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Chamberlain died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at Westwood Health Care. She was born April 3, 1924, in Morgan County to Jim and Alice Peebles. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Donald Ray "Buddy" Hitt of Hillsboro; one daughter, Linda Gail Carr of Hatton; two brothers, Ell Peebles of Indianapolis, Ind., and Roy Peebles of Falkville; and three grandchildren.

Sarah James Darnell
78, homemaker

Memorial service for Sarah James Darnell, 79, of Decatur will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Decatur with the Rev. John Campbell officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the memorial service. A private family graveside service will follow. Mrs. Darnell died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at Briarcliff Nursing Home in Alabaster. She was born Feb. 11, 1921, in Nashville, Tenn., and was the widow of Charles Darnell and was the sister of the late Albert James and Lewis James. She also was the sister of the late Harriett James grandmother of the late Jacob Robert Darnell. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a homemaker.

She is survived by five sons, Robert Darnell of Elizabethtown, Ky., James Darnell and Joseph Darnell, both of Upatoi, Ga., David Darnell of Helena, and William Darnell of Franklin, Tenn.; and twelve grandchildren.

William Randall Evans

ATHENS -- Funeral arrangements for William Randall Evans, 40, of Tanner, who died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, in Limestone County, will be announced by Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.

Opal J. Hall
85, homemaker

HARTSELLE -- A private memorial service for Opal J. Hall, 85, of Hartselle will be held in California. Mrs. Hall died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born June 10, 1914, in Kansas and was a homemaker and the widow of Willard C. Hall. She was the mother of the late Linda Hall Smith.

She moved to Hartselle from Diamond Springs, Calif., in 1995.

The family requests any memorials be made to a favorite charity.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Dupree of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; one brother, Roy M. Love of Sublette, Kan.; one sister, Helen L. Koch of Canon City. Colo.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Emma P. Houston

Funeral arrangements for Emma P. Houston, 90, of Green briar, who died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at her home, will be announced by Sharpley Funeral Home.

J.C. Woodfin
72, retired

MOULTON -- Funeral for J.C. Woodfin, 72, of Elkmont will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. James Turner and the Rev. Brent Hawkins officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Woodfin died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at his home. He was born Aug. 17, 1927, in Lincoln County, Tenn. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and retired from Fafnir Bearing Co.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Woodfin; one son, Rickey Woodfin of Dothan; two daughters, Pam Dale of Harvest and Lesa Jones of Ardmore, Tenn.; one sister, Bea Naves of Athens; two grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.

Jessie M. Davis
87, retired farmer
Funeral for Jessie M. Davis, 87, of Hillsboro will be Tuesday at noon at David Temple Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Foster officiating.

Burial will be in Ennix Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at the funeral home. The body will be in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Davis died Friday, Aug. 10, 1999, at Parkway Medical Center Hospital. He was born Jan. 5, 1912, in Lawrence County, to James A. Davis and Hattie Stewart Davis. He was a farmer and custodian for First Federal Savings and Loan. He was a member of David Temple Primitive Baptist Church, where he served on the usher board and as Sunday school superintendent. He also was member of Ascension Masonic Lodge No. 72. He was the widower of Helen Ennix Davis, who was a Decatur City Schools teacher.

He is survived by one son, Edward Carnell Davis of St. Louis, Mo.; three daughters, Gloria Buchanan and Deborah Freeman, both of Hillsboro, and Helen Watkins of Austin, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Masons will be pallbearers.

James Shelby Ellard Jr.

HUNTSVILLE -- Funeral arrangements for James Shelby Ellard Jr., 70, of Lacey's Spring, who died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at home, will be announced by Twickenham Funeral Home.

Ruby Johnson Flynn

ATHENS -- Funeral for Ruby Johnson Flynn, 78, of Athens will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Athens.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with Spry Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Flynn died today, Sept. 13, 1999, at her home. Other arrangements will be announced by the funeral home.

Amos Leon Kennemur
85, retired surveyor

ATHENS -- Funeral for Amos Leon Kennemur, 85, of Anderson was to be today at 2 p.m. at Union Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Chuck Hood officiating.

Burial was to be in Bethel Cemetery with McConnell Funeral home directing.

Mr. Kennemur died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at his home. He was born July 29, 1914, in Limestone County to Sam Kennemur and Nettie Jones Kennemur. He was a lifelong resident of Limestone County and retired as a surveyor from the Soil Conservation Service after 26 years. He was the oldest elder at Union Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He attended Union Hill Elementary School and graduated in 1932 from Minor Hill High School in Tennessee. He was the brother of the late Juanell Kennemur and the late James Kennemer. He is survived by his wife, Clarice Kennemur; two sons, Ted Kennemer and David Kennemur, both of Anderson; one daughter, Tanis Hudson of Florence; two brothers, Paul Kennemur and Allen Kennemer, both of Birmingham; two sisters, Odene Griffin and Virginia Simmons, both of Locust Fork; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Teddy Hudson, Tony Hudson, Johnny Kennemer, Brandon Kennemur, Lance Hammond and Mike Cooper.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.

HARTSELLE -- Funeral arrangements for Gayle Morgan Scott, 56, of Gardendale, who died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, in Gardendale, will be announced by Peck Funeral Home.

Rebecca L. Smith

Mrs. Smith died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at her home. She was born Nov. 25, 1951, in Akron, Ohio, to Robert and Inez Jones. She was a clerk/typist for the Alabama Department of Transportation and a United Methodist.

She is survived by her husband, Rayburn E. Smith; one son, Randy Smith of Baileyton; one daughter, Karen Wierman of Memphis; two sisters, Roberta Sommerville and Renita Mullins, both of Decatur; her mother, Inez Jones of Decatur; and eight grandchildren.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.
