ATHENS -- Funeral for Charles E. Cutts, 66, of Athens was to be today at 11 a.m. at McConnell Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Aaron Johnson officiating.
Burial was to be in Athens City Cemetery.
Mr. Cutts died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Nov. 30, 1933, in Cullman County to Jack C. Cutts and Ruby Cutts. He was a retired insurance claims specialist and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the Brother Organization and First Baptist Church of Athens, where he was secretary of the Adult 4 Sunday school department.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Cutts; one son, Charles "Chuck" E. Cutts Jr. of Pelham; and his mother of Athens.
Pallbearers will be Manson Gilliam, Dick Holland, Sid Puckett, Glenn Patterson, Bailey Leopard Jr., Michael Leopard and Alan Emig.
Members of the Thursday Golfer's Group and the Adult 4 Men's Sunday school classes will be honorary pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to Athens-Limestone Kidney Association or the First Baptist Church of Athens building fund.
Larry Don Norwood Sr.

HARTSELLE -- Funeral for Larry Don Norwood Sr. 54, of Hartselle will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home with the Rev. Lindsey Herndon officiating.
Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mr. Norwood died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born April 19, 1946, in Morgan County to Clarence H. Norwood and Virginia Hill Norwood. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, he was retired from the Alabama National Guard and the Margaret Jean Jones Developmental Center in Cullman, where he was director. He was a member of Central Christian Church. He was the son of the late Clarence H. Norwood and the stepbrother of the late Martha Green .
Survivors include his wife, DeBoice "Deedi" Norwood; two sons, Larry Don Norwood Jr. and Todd Alan Norwood, both of Hartselle; one daughter, Gini DeBoice Norwood Green of Hartselle; his mother and stepfather, Virginia M. and David Sartin of Hartselle; one brother, Gary Michael Norwood of Hartselle; three stepbrothers, David Sartin of Birmingham, Randy Sartin of Decatur and Danny Sartin of Concord, N.C.; three stepsisters, Joy Brown of Hartselle, Bonnie Parker of Moulton and Mary Dee Switzer of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David Puckett, Randy Sartin, Hillard Reeves, Joe Slagle, Rodney Mauter and Mike Jones.
Cecil E. Quillin
77, Monsanto retiree
Graveside service for Cecil E. Quillin, 77, of Decatur was to be today at 11 a.m. at K.P. Cemetery in Russellville with Ralph Stout officiating and Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Quillin died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born March 1, 1923, in Russellville to Charlie Quillin and Faye Quillin. He was a founder and a supporter of Decatur Little League Baseball, a past member of Rising Sun Masonic Lodge No. 29, a member of Grant Street Church of Christ and a World War II Navy veteran. He retired from Monsanto (now Solutia) after 40 years of service. He played baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals farm team in the early 1950s.
Survivors include his wife, Marvaline Quillin; one son, Rick Quillin of Plano, Texas; one daughter, Ginger Quillin Brown of Decatur; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were to be Brian Quillin, Jim Brown, Heath Haddock, Johnny Scott, Jerry Robinson and Dr. Don Shotts.
Kenneth Harrington Stewart
Funeral for Kenneth Harrington Stewart, 58, of Decatur will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Bell Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Darius Crayton officiating.
Burial will be in Bell Church Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.
Mr. Stewart died Wednesday. Aug. 30, 2000, at his home. He was born Jan. 19, 1942, in Morgan County to Eugene Stewart and Ora Lee Broughm Stewart. He was a member of Athens Baptist Church.
Survivors include six daughters, Sharon Gilbreath and Sophia Stewart, both of Madison, Corinthia Stewart of Laurel, Md., Feloney Burroughs of Birmingham, and Bridgette Goode and Michelle McDonald, both of Decatur; two brothers, Douglas Stewart of Athens and Joseph Stewart of Huntsville; and five sisters, Margaret Stewart and Jeanette Crayton, both of Decatur, Gracie Stewart of Rockledge, Fla., Bernice Allen of Louisville, Ky., and Teresa Stewart of Athens.
Pallbearers will be Cashin Wheeler Jr., William Merriweather, Levi Nance, Alvin McDaniel, Jim Wiggins and Richard Hines Jr.
Musician Cain,
Hartselle native,
dies at age 61
Funeral for Robert L. "Bob" Cain, who grew up in Hartselle and later moved to Birmingham, where he became well known in the entertainment profession, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Trussville.
"Bob was one of the most talented persons that I have ever known and we're all going to miss him dearly,'' said his cousin, former Hartselle High School football coach J.P. Cain. "He could play that trumpet like no one else could play.''
Cain, 61, who moved to Birmingham several years ago to become operator and co-owner the Canebreak Supper Club, a popular downtown nightspot where he performed nightly, died Wednesday.
He and Harry Bell, a close friend from Decatur, operated the club for several years. The club's heyday was in the 1960s and '70s. He entertained as Bob Cain and the Cane-Breakers.
Cain's daughter, Lacy Goodwin, said her father suffered from cancer and that at the time of his death he had the impression that he was about to catch an airplane to go to a doctor in Joplin, Mo., for treatment.
For the last several years, Cain has performed with Bill and Gloria Gaither's homecoming concerts band.
"He was best known during his school days for carrying around the trumpet,'' J.P. Cain said. "But, he loved football and I remember when he went out for the high school football team.''
"He loved Hartselle and Morgan County,'' J.P. Cain said. He often returned to Morgan County to perform for charity events.
Burial will be in Clear Springs Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Penelope Cain; one son, Robert Lyle Cain of Birmingham; one daughter, Lacy Goodwin of St. Louis; and two brothers, John Cain of Hanceville and James Cain of Pearl River, La.
Cain was born in Hartselle, where he began playing the trumpet at the age of 9. He was a graduate of The University of Alabama, where he was named leader of the Alabama Cavaliers, the school's 17-piece orchestra.
During an interview with THE DECATUR DAILY in 1970, Cain said he measured his success by some of the guests who attended his performances at the supper club.
"We've had people like Ray Charles and Johnny Cash drop in to see our performances while they were in town,'' he said.
He also was a University of Alabama football fan and a longtime friend of the university's late football coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. He kept a football signed by members of the 1961 Alabama national championship team in the lobby of his nightclub for several years.

Mrs. Maples died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Oct. 11, 1911, in Knoxville to Andrew Jackson Cummings and Maggie E. Lemons Cummings. She was a Baptist and a former machine operator.
Survivors include one daughter, Naomi H. Ogle of Decatur; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

James Thomas Massey
ATHENS -- Funeral for James Thomas Massey, 63, of Athens will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Tanner Church of Christ with Robert Hall officiating and Limestone Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. at Mountain Home Cemetery in Bear Creek. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will be at the church one hour before the service.
Mr. Massey died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Limestone Health Facility. He was born Sept. 19, 1936, in Marion County. He was a member of Tanner Church of Christ.
Survivors include one brother, Junior Massey of Sibling, Ohio; and one sister, Mildred Davis of Haleyville.
Elders of Tanner Church of Christ will be pallbearers.
Sarah Frances Shaw Mullins

Mrs. Mullins died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at home. She was born July 20, 1932, in Spartanburg, S.C., to John Richard Shaw and Nellie Sue Casey Shaw. She retired after 30 years as a procurement officer for the Strategic Missile Defense Command at Redstone Arsenal. She was a member of Carters Grove Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She was the widow of Richard S. Mullins.
Survivors include two sons, Stan Mullins of Cullman and Terry Mullins of Toney; two brothers, J.R. Shaw and George Shaw, both of New Port Richey, Fla.; two sisters, Nellie Poole of Columbia, S.C., and Sue Herwat of New Port Richey; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker and a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. She was the widow of Cleo Plemons and William Long, and the mother of the late James Larry Long.
Survivors include two sons, William Michael Long of Lawrenceburg, Ga., and Frank Cox Long of Jessup, Ga.; four daughters, Carolyn Cagle and Linda G. Gosline, both of Decatur, Kay Ramsey of Vermontville, Mich., and Sandra G. McCarthy of Hendersville, Tenn.; 23 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, W.C. Whisenant and Willard Whisenant, both of Ryan, and Earl Whisenant of Decatur; one daughter, Nell Moses of Ryan; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Roy Elisha Eddy

Mr. Eddy died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born April 2, 1921, in Morgan City to the late Leroy Eddy and Margaret Stiles Eddy. He was a retired construction worker. He was the father of the late Brenda Porch.
Survivors include two sons, Ray Eddy and Phillip Eddy, both of Fayetteville, Tenn.; three daughters, Pat Colvarel of Dalton, Ga., Wanda Thompson of Fayetteville, Tenn. and Gail Wright of New Market; one brother, T. J. Eddy of Cullman; four sisters, Lottie Wade of St. Cloud, Fla., Lovie Ryan of Sommerville, Velma Prince and Helen Drinkard, both of Decatur; 18 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
